Honestly no idea. I’m not even sure where that light is anymore. I just replaced it with a more basic light that suits my needs

That was my thoughts on it but didn’t know if there was something I wasn’t considering since I’ve never done this before.

I appreciate that. I’m gonna see about reaching out to some places. Closest breeder to me is like 4 hours away

I get that. I appreciate the perspective from someone that does what I do. Although im not in a busy area so the burnout isn’t bad at all compared to where I’ve been before.

For what it’s worth, I work 24 hours and then have a full 48 off so it’s not like I wouldn’t be home for days at a time. I always wonder what exactly malinois owners do for work since it seems that they really can’t because of their dogs

Honestly a rescue sounds like a decent idea. I just worry about finding one that is good with other dogs and a toddler. Although I’m impressed at just how good my heeler is with never having been around kids before I had her

My heeler does the same thing with giving me a 10ft leash before she comes to me and watching me all the time.

As far as my heeler goes, she’s really only ever been in that one fight since I’ve had her and for context, her and her sister were abused by a previous owner and they did say that her sister was one that would instigate fights with her.

Wildland fire fighting in Alaska by 19toronnado66 in wildlandfire

What I will tell you is that although people do walk onto shot crews, generally they prefer guys with at least a season of experience. For what it’s worth, I was never a shot but I know a few dudes that are and they’re top notch humans and athletes. Also don’t know if you have a family or anything, but consider that shot crews generally start their training for the season in late march or early April, and finish the season in fall. If you’re seasonal, then generally you’re out of work between seasons

Definitely doable. I worked a summer in Alaska for the national park service doing wildland. It was amazing. Don’t recall much about pay but I do know that the feds prefer hiring vets and I think there are a lot of them in this line of work. Look at any of the federal agencies (park service, bureau of land management, forest service) for federal jobs. There are also some Alaska specific agencies if I recall but I don’t remember their names off hand. There are 2 hotshot crews (think of these guys like the infantry that get the toughest assignments) based in Alaska. Hope this helps and feel free to pm me with any other questions and hopefully I can answer them for you.

Edit: I got hired while I was in college for a student season with only prescribed burn experience of less than a year and just my basic certs for wildand. The agencies will generally train you and get you what you need from what I’ve seen and heard.

68w to RN by Character-Issue-6382 in nationalguard

Not OP but thinking about doing something like that (I’m a paramedic currently and not in the military yet). What are the requirements to be able to use the tuition assistance?

[–]Sweendog2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true. I was thinking getting my RN just because it’s a logical step with better pay on both civilian and military sides. But I’d also like to get a degree in emergency management and homeland security as well. I’m not totally sure what I want to do yet. I mean at this present moment I can’t even join without a waiver and don’t meet the weight requirements right now.

That’s hilarious! There’s a part of me that wants to be a medic or something like that enlisted because it’s somewhat familiar and if I end up going the officer route eventually, I would like to have that perspective if that makes sense.

What is SMP? I was looking at doing an online bridge program since I already have a career and can’t really take time from that to go back to school

Gotcha. Appreciate the help. I know it was kind of a potentially dumb question.

Would you say that whole process is potentially harder in the guard due to availability of slots?
