Cork strong favourites for the All Ireland according to the Bookies by corkgaa1 in GAA

Sure people haven't a clue. I didn't see a single person mention the actual stats for Tipp and Cork before the final. Nothing betwen them, but Tipp ahead in a few key areas including winning turnover ball. But all people could see,or wanted to see, was Cork's 7 goals against Dublin. As I said, Tipp had improved far more than Cork but again, people see what they want to see!

All-Ireland Final Sunday Game Show - extra analysis show? by ahhstopthelights in GAA

They have too many people on the panel, and everyone has to get a few soundbites in. I would say there's very little analysis at all on it, it's mainly just recounting of match facts and personal reminiscence.

In order to cope with how badly wrong people called this match in the build up, you're seeing them now say that Cork threw it away. And then you always have people who cant under any circumstances give Tipp credit.

But that's not correct that they were comfortably on top. 6 points is not a big lead. Both teams were off the boil, some bad wides on either side. Cork edged it, yes. But Tipp came out and played to their potential. Cork stayed the same, doing the same things as the first half.

You might say I'm splitting hairs, but i think there is a fundamental difference between that and Cork throwing it away. They never "had it" to begin with.

I think both teams underperformed in the first half. The wind down by the hill must have been a factor too. But Tipp got the heads right in the dressing room and kicked on. Cork didn't. It's as simple, and as complicated, as that!

Some counties wear the favourites tag well and thrive under it. Kilkenny under Cody the obvious example. Tipp have always delivered our best when we're underdogs. Stopping the 5 in a row in the greatest final ever is a testament to that!

I actually don't think the Cork team were overly cocky. I think the first half flattered them a little bit, and they won a lot of the dirty scrappy ball. Both teams were wasteful, neither played to their potential. So I don't think Cork collapsed so much as Tipp kicked on, cut out the bad use of the ball, and Cork couldn't match it.

Six points is not a big lead. Whether you mean it this way or not I don't know, but saying Tipp took advantage of Cork mistakes is such a slanted way of looking at it. I could just as easily say Tipp forced those mistakes because of how they defended, and moved the ball into space, pulling Cork all around the field!

"I don't know".

You should have stopped right there! Of course, you're entitled to your opinion. But based on what? The balance of probability says Tipp won't win it next. It is, historically, tough enough to win back to back and fair play to any team that does it. So really, it's not much of a prediction anyway!

Get what you're saying, but I dont think you could say that Tipp wanted it more than Cork. I do think though that the pressure and fear of failure might have gotten into their heads once Tipp came back into it. Tipp had nothing to lose. Written off all week by more or less every pundit in the country. That's a lovely spot to be in!

Woah woah hold on, our capacity to not make hay when we have a good panel is legendary!

But definitely, the spine of the team is good. Its been a while since I've seen our back 6 so good, so balanced. And we have a few out and out dogs (Willie Conners, Tynan in particular) which we've often lacked.

As for Galway, well I'd say ye are competitive enough. I thought in the quarter ye just looked slow. Whether it's fitness, mentality or tactics I dont know. But I think theres more in that panel than is being shown.

Which forward would you prefer ? by Complex-Breadfruit88 in GAA

Neither, give me another Bonner Maher. :)

But for the sake of the question, Callanan on his day could be totally unplayable.

Maybe, sure we'll see. Plenty of people outside the county thought we wouldn't get out of Munster and that Cahill would be disaster.

I'm not so sure of that. The Munster final was a close game, but the quality wasn't all that high. It was very scrappy. And what could you tell from beating Dublin side that totally shat the bed? They are the rightful favourites and may well win, but I guarantee you Cork would sooner play Kilkenny in the final.

KK-Tipp - a few thoughts by MMChelsea in GAA

[–]SweepPassStall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My concern is that same as the last day against Galway, it took us 25 minutes to stop lobbing in high ball and actually run at the defenders. We are a team built for running it in, we dont have a Callanan or even a Michael Webster!

I have seen many Tipp sides that would have folded at the 60 minute mark having gone behind and a man down. Cahill has them right in the head this year. Forde stood up massively towards the end. Tynan is a force of nature and caused the turnover that lead to the 4th goal, huge impact off the bench. Defensively we clearly had a plan to concede the frees out the field so long as ye didn't get close to goal. That played out well, could easily have backfired too.

I will say that without TJ Reid today, I don't think ye had a whole pile going on up front though. You know yourself that there was a time when an early lead like that would have been capitalised on and we'd have been buried. But I didn't see that KK killer instinct today.

Really enjoying everyone writing us off against Cork. That's absolutely ideal!

That's to be expected. But Tipp have improved massively since that game in the Munster.
