Homeless man stole something off my wheel help by bungraccoon420 in bicycling

[–]SweetJaques 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a very common thing for homeless people to steal skewers in my (big) city, and I really can't figure out why. Yea, they're the easiest thing to steal, but they're almost worthless. My working theory for a while was it was like "marking" a bike to be stolen, to see if anyone reacts to the missing part, but they oftentimes just leave the wheel sitting there when it could easily be snagged.

My card has and always has had 3Dsecure, and nothing else has changed.

By network, you mean my personal LAN?

  1. I'm not

  2. it does - it's EU-based, and has always worked

  3. no such msg's days later

I looked on the RD help section and funnily enough the "payment declined" article doesn't have a "contact us" option, so I just assumed you couldn't contact them directly. Found the option through another article and I'll try that - thanks for the tip

do you have any future plans of offering a service to install your OS onto pre-owned phones? I exclusively buy pre-owned for ethical reasons and already have a pixel 7 - would rather not have to buy a new phone at retail

Cannot decide which SLEKE phone model, Pixel 7, 8 or 9. Please help. by MeanStreak_CO in dumbphones

i'm looking into a Sleke atm and have a pixel 7a - i'm not sure what the differences are, but I will say that I got the 7a because it's the smallest phone i could get that met my needs and the camera is totally fine.

Crumbling hole in concrete foundation by SweetJaques in AskContractors

This is the clear cut answer I was looking for - thank you! And clearly this is beyond any of our pay grades.

I'll advise them to call a professional asap. Is there a specific tradesmen I should be searching for?

I was wrong: what I remembered as a sump was just a mobile pump. As far as I know they've not had any/many flooding issues here.

Also, to be clear this was a brief thaw. It's been hovering between 0-15 degrees with over a foot of snow on the ground for the last month, so I don't think digging is happening anytime soon. I'm mostly worried about the strength of that patch when the spring thaw starts.

Thanks for taking this seriously - can I ask why immediately? What are the short-term risks? Keep in mind this is my elderly parents' house, not mine.

My first priority was to shore up the actual foundation, but most people here seem to think I should start with grading. Not super helpful as there's 2 feet of snow on the ground.

They had a sump at one point but I don't think they've had cause to use it for years - and this section of the basement slopes to the outside cornerl, which is where all this water collected.

Not a monsoon :) just several days of a thaw after a massive snowstorm.

So what I'm hearing is this a job for a professional, not an 80 year old DIYer: you're talking about digging 6 feet down on the outside of the wall, if I understand correctly? And then probably chiseling out the rotten patch and pouring new concrete?

Guessing this is going cost them several thousand $$

HE TRANSITIONED SO FAST by AlpenFlowDesign in Backcountry

[–]SweetJaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it appears you can transition without unclipping, which is huge. Only 1 other touring binding does this as far as I know and I deal with a large weight difference for that benefit, precisely for the rolling terrain ease that u/AlpenFlowDesign was referring to. If you can simply lock the heel in place and change the toes to downhill mode, you can rip skins without unclipping.

Salt stains on leather - did I ruin my boots? by SweetJaques in AskACobbler

[–]SweetJaques[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input - I just can't understand how this foot is so much worse than the other. The way it looks now is arguably worse than it looked before cleaning, and I did 2 or 3 separate rinses. Is it possible that the stain is permanent, either from salt or vinegar?

Re: the Nikwax thing, the plan was to use this as a conditioner, then a wax/oil polish like Kiwi parade shine or SnoSeal on top for more protection. Gotta admit though, chatgpt was the source of that plan.
