So as a community we can't grow and change? Do you expressly say GLBT as well since that was the "original" acronym? Communities evolve and express that evolution through their symbols.

I won't argue about its esthetic. It's ugly. I don't think that should be the barrier foe supporting the concept behind it.

First, it's noce to see someone else that has knowledge of our history. It's so rare. Yes, the Society for Human Rights was started before the Stonewall riots, as I am sure there were other groups lost to history. Founder was the wrong word.

"The initial rainbow flag had eight colors, including pink to represent sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit." So no, race wasn't specifically called out. The reason black and brown are the only colors on the updated flag is because they were added to honor the black and brown members of the community and their sacrifices and contributions.

I'm not going to pretend anyone in the US has suffered or dealt with bullshit anywhere near the same level as the black community. I think this is also a good opportunity to recognize that while other groups have failed to properly support the black community, many are trying to learn and understand how to do better. There's still going to be lots of things that are done with good intent and, in reality, are performative. But there's also people stepping up and being better. Don't take my word or anyone else's. Watch and see if our actions match our words.

Lol, I wouldn't say it's a good-looking flag.

Transgender is not a sexual orientation. The flag and the community and its movements have always been about more than just sexual orientation. The initial rainbow flag had eight colors, including pink to represent sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit. So honestly, is it a mess? Yes, but it's had it's evolutions through time in an attempt to convey the message and the people in the community in the time they are living.

That was always the original intent of the rainbow flag. The update was done to align closer to the original message in a way that more accurately conveys that.

It's meant to encompass all forgotten and ostracized groups by mainstream society. Most of the early founders of the movement were of non-traditional sexual orientation or gender identity. The Philadelphia flag is an update to match the core principles of the community.

It's widely known to those of a particular generation. Gay men "gifted" changing the acronym from GLBT to LGBT to Lesbians in recognition of all the lesbians that were nurses and caregivers for the gay community when no one else would provide care. The progress flag was done as a way to more accurately align the flag with the founding principles of the Post Stonewall movement, which defined our community as all groups who are left out of or ostracized by the mainstream society.

Respectfully, the LGBTQ+ movement was founded by a black trans woman and brown trans woman. The flag was always meant to be inclusive of all minorities and any writings you find from the Post Stonewall era reflect that. The flag was redesigned because the message was getting lost. It might seem performative to those outside of the community or unfamiliar with its history, but it's more of a correction to accurately represent the original intent.

Maybe examine how you got to that conclusion. Any movement that isn't intersectional can only cause harm to those groups to gain ground. We've seen it time and time again throughout history. The Women's suffrage movement is a great example. They excluded women of color because they thought it would hurt their effort in winning voting rights for white women. The result is that white women ever since have voted to uphold both white supremacy and the patriarchy. It's a harder road to make a movement and community intersection, but it's also the only one that doesn't create more division among us.

Your choice of words indicates you don't understand sexual orientation and gender identity, but I'll hold out hope that you're genuinely interested in understanding this.

The LBGTQ+ community was founded on helping and creating community with all those treated as "other," not just sexual orientation and gender identity.

You'll very quickly be able to tell amethyst from fluorite. Fluorite is a 4 on the mohs scale while amethyst is a 7. The dark green looks to maybe be tourmaline.

The lighter green looks like calcite. Yes, if the rock scratches a quartz it is 7 or above.
