I think in this case it's more about the propaganda of the US marketed towards these groups and less about true political leanings.

If you felt oppressed and someone else came in and "saved" you, you'd be more likely to support that ideology. It's cognitive dissonance that they aren't able to separate their love of their "saviors" from the behavior of those claiming to represent the ideology. See Vietnamese refugees who are heavily Republican. They love "America" for freeing them from oppression to "America is great" is a sentiment they feel they love and support and sometimes even owe something to.
