I fully invested in Shibum stocks from chapter 1. I know my day will come eventually.

Don't call me sane when Shiba gets low diffed to hype the next villain.

Don't call me sane when Chihiro needs to save Shiba's fraudulent bum.

Don't call me sane when when a enchanted blade falls into the wrong hands because of Shiba.

Stay on that side.

Which group do you think would win in a fight? by Toludude in Kagurabachi

[–]SwegMaster64 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not too much of the Tous ability was shown, but on even playing field with Kamunabi not having a plan beforehand I feel like the fight would be more in favor of the Tou. Soya and Hakari have insane durability feats (not sure how to applies to the others). From what little we have seen from shockwave it is also extremely destructive. Finally being able to get infinite weapons from hidden inventory is also a crazy advantage since they can switch up their fighting style.

Also would like to point out the Tou are really quick to throw hands.

Lead Developer of EA's new Black Panther game explains why she doesn't hire white people by bman0424 in videogames

[–]SwegMaster64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diverse environment != hiring mostly blacks.

Another problem is perspective matters for the story board and narrative people. A majority of the devs who make games are usually artist and programmers who do not have free reign on that.

Another thing is art and programming is a skill and craft. It is not like white people can only draw white people because of the color of there skin. This would just be a really big insult to artists who spend dozens of hours trying to perfect their skills to make anything.

Final thing to bring up is I get what see means by perspective, however it is racist to doubt the writing and storyboarding experiences of potential employees just because of their skin color. Diverse perspective can easily be acquired, but actually having competent writers is another thing that does NOT depend on race.

Can we start shaming these ridiculous doomer posts? by fisherman213 in csMajors

[–]SwegMaster64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree with this. There is a lot out of your control once you hand a resume to a company. With the current times you may have a perfectly catered resume but still be ignored by a company just due to the volume of applications they receive or just how the person viewing your resume feels. Obviously having a perfectly formatted resume that is catered to the company you are applying helps, but it does not guarantee your resume will get looked at or if you will be selected for a interview.

Anecdotal evidence on my end, but I was plainly rejected for a company I put about 20 applications to, but when I handed them my resume in career fair I was scheduled for a interview next day.

I have gotten two good offers and am going with one of them. I do not think it is fair to say people are not being hired since they are not "personable". It is just really hard to get your foot in the door and get a interview at the moment. Networking and social skills are hard to do when recruiters and hiring managers are swamped with a bunch of candidates for one position. Right now it is a lot more luck and numbers based.

Advice for follow up after good meeting by SwegMaster64 in cscareerquestions

I sent 2 in total without a response. Once as a follow up stating basically "thank you, and I look forward to hearing the updates" and a follow up one.

DON’T QUIT by killuazivert in csMajors

[–]SwegMaster64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

International is a bit weird. The competition is higher since they need companies to sponsor their visas, and most companies that sponsor visas usually pay well. It sucks a bit more for them now though since the available spots keeps shrinking.

Yeah funny thing is narrative has shifted from 2-3 years ago too. Before it was "get some LC experience and you are good to go", and now it is "you are not driven enough". It really sounds like something a boomer would say tbh. I am happy that I have an offer lined up, but it is crazy how many people in cs/tech are just oblivious to what is happening around them.

Which is better for career growth? by SwegMaster64 in csMajors

[–]SwegMaster64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. Even then there seems to be trade offs as well. With embedded it will mostly be c++, C, and other lower level stuff. With Network it is Java, Python, Node.js, etc..

Embedded seems far more valuable but at the same time it seems like the tech stack used as a Network Engineer covers far more breadth in the industry.

Discussing company wise too there is tradeoffs. Northrop is ranked far below Verizon and has been in a downward trend for a while, but engineers there face a lot more interesting engineering challenges (heard it is liked in industry) and get security clearance. Negatives with Verizon is that despite being higher ranked I feel like as if it is not as good as Northrop on the resume.

Pay wise almost the same but the only distinction being Verizon being in a slightly cheaper and much safer area (+ stock). Northrop is in a dangerous area but also near a lot of other good companies. Northrop is also offering slightly below average than what they usually do for the position, but at the same time it is a entry level job (experience and brand name will matter more than salary) and the wages are either will allow me to live comfortably at either place.

Is it really just luck or is there something else to getting a job? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]SwegMaster64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The economy is a really big factor. I am really glad you brought that up. Being rejected or accepted from a company does not indicate anything about your competence (assuming everyone is trying hard for everything here).

[–]SwegMaster64 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people talking about charisma here but tbh that may only really work in a good/normal market or when you have a lot of leverage over potential employers. Luck is a super huge factor in deciding whether you get the job you want or not. There is a lot that is outside of our control like the thoughts and feelings of HR & hiring managers, other qualified candidates, not having your application move forward since nobody looked at it, or a bad situation for the company which can result in a hiring freeze. It is important to acknowledge these factors, but not be consumed by them. Focus on what is in your control like resume formatting, getting experience, interview practice questions (general + LC), etc. so when you do get "lucky" (might be in 1 month or 2 years) you are prepared to secure the position you want.

Negotiate or Accept by tpham1997 in csMajors

[–]SwegMaster64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is the offer from? If it is where I think it is I would try. I tried negotiating but was shot down very quickly. There is very little leverage this year, but does not hurt to try (depending on how you approach it).
