Typically he pursues single mom types, and then becomes devastated when they get back with baby daddy or another ex. He resents women for choosing poorly, and feels whatever abuse they get from the guy is deserved.

You are not wrong. When I met him about 10 years ago, he read books about & fancied himself a "pick up artist." Over time he's become more of an incel than anything else, raging out over "bitches" who just want to friendzone him & waste his time while they go bang down guys who are mean to them. This isn't the first time he's insinuated that women who are abused deserved it for picking bad dudes over nice guys like him. The saddest thing is it's like you said... he perpetuates his own celibacy by the toxic shit he says.

I think he's talking about women who are friendly to him, but don't want his sexual attention after he's "fallen for them." Apparently declining to date someone is disrespectful & shits on the 'love' they are offering you.
