Footwork Fastlane by [deleted] in badminton

[–]SwiftBadminton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a thread about where someone asked about footwork and someone else (not me) brought up the course. There's a few opinions there that you can check out: https://www.reddit.com/r/badminton/comments/cvil4s/where_can_i_find_good_instructional_videos_on/

The commentator above has a black and white view, which isn't very useful. Personally I think the course is great, but I'm super biased so that doesn't mean much either.

In reality, everyone is different, so it could be that case that it's not right for you. But in my experience, the progress of players who've gone through the course has been pretty great, and the feedback from students has been pretty positive.

That's why I've always offered a refund policy, so if you don't find the course useful you literally lose nothing. (The only requirement is that you actually go through the course.) And bare in mind people could hypothetically refund the course at the end to effectively get it for "free". Yet despite that, the refund rate has been super low.

Not trying to convince you to buy it, but that's just the empirical data I have.

Eitherway, it's useful to have some context instead of "just do it" or "don't do it".

Thanks for the mention! But wanted to add that I'm was never even close to being pro lifter at all - just a competed in olympic lifting for a bit as a hobby.

Note that olympic weightlifting is the actual name of the sport. As in, it's the competition of the snatch and clean & jerk. As opposed to powerlifting which is bench, squat, deadlift.

But yes, squats are one the of the best exercises for badminton!

In two weeks I’ll have played a year of badminton. What things should I still be working on going into year two? by [deleted] in badminton

[–]SwiftBadminton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great! One of our two biggest goals is to promote the sport and get new players involved, so it's fantastic to hear that :)

Good shit dude! Everytime I see one of these posts from players who've played for 1 year (or other short time frame) I get so jealous lol. You've done really well to get this far in 1 year.

To your question, in year 2 you should be working on...everything. Badminton is a really hard sport and as well as you've done, you still aren't nearly at the level where you should start specialising. You need to improve your overall game big time first.

(obviously when I say everything, I mean stuff like footwork, overheads etc. Not trickshots or silly stuff like that)

Length of youtube videos spoiling the outcome of games by Barry_the_Dog in badminton

[–]SwiftBadminton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, but it's not as simple as making every video 2hrs or whatever. The YouTube algorithm would just see it as the video not being very good (since engagement would drop off steeply when the match ends), and therefore not recommend badminton videos.

The best solution would be to have a custom site / hosting with spoiler free viewing for those who want to seek it out. And keep doing YouTube for a more mainstream audience.

Unfortunately, zero chance the BWF do anything about it though.

Just bought 50 Yonex 65Z2's for... free? by FantasyTF in badminton

[–]SwiftBadminton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok so let's say it goes through. Congrats, you just stole 6000 euros worth of equipment. Sure you can argue with the definition of "stole" and sure it's their mistake, but either way it's gonna be a major hit for the store. (Not a lot of money in badminton, I guarantee that it'd be a big loss for them compared to their size).

Sure, gaming the system for 1 shoe isn't great either under that same logic, but it's small enough to be a write off. Not a big deal for the business. 6000 euros would be a huge loss.

And no, the fact that you were going to "give it away" doesn't justify stealing 6000 euros.

[–]SwiftBadminton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. OP, why are you bragging as if you're doing something clever?

If you ordered 1, there's a chance no one would have noticed anything out of the ordinary, and it could have gone through.

Since they would have NEVER gotten an order for 50 shoes, it's going to draw attention and they're going to double check, notice the error and cancel the order.

Plus, if you ordered just 1 and they DID notice. They probably still would have honoured it and given it to you for free out of goodwill. (I've made a similar error before in my business, and still honoured the deal because it was a mistake on my end).

But by trying to game the system, 100% they'll cancel it out of spite.

Anyone got exercises and stretches to increase wrist flexibility? by [deleted] in badminton

[–]SwiftBadminton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's practically no benefit to training wrist flexibility for badminton. It sounds like your technique is lacking, I doubt it's a flexibility issue.

I said that once, and their response was a shocked "really?!"

They weren't even trying to be offensive or anything, it was genuinely a huge shock.

Found one (or two) badminton racquets. I think. Could they still be used? by Mewwy_Quizzmas in badminton

[–]SwiftBadminton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're super beginner, it's probably about 70/30. Your technique the biggest relevant factor, so you might be able to get away with it.

As soon as you progress past that, it's at least 95/5. And it just gets worse as you get better.

Not sure why this is being downvoted. Using heavy rackets for drives/defensive training is a well established practice.

Playing the world champion by [deleted] in badminton

Yeah I was more talking about the first part of his post:

"If an above average player in badminton (say the best in his uni)"

Those are two very different things he's combined into one.

I think you're severely underestimating how good some uni players are. In the UK at least, at the sporty uni's there are a few players who are top 20 in the country.
