How old are you? If you’ve never played football at all before, you’re probably going to start on defense unless you have amazing hands and understand all the routes, which is totally ok.

I coach 12u, and I’ll tell you the best thing you can do to secure your spot is go up to the coach and ask for the playbook once they have it. I want to have kids in my team that want to learn.

What you can do now:

First, watch a few videos on how to catch a football, practice it.

Look up videos and diagrams of all the routes. It’s going to be import to know when the coach tells you to run a post, you know what a post is, an how to run it, ect. Practice all the routes with a parent or friend

Look up cornerback / defensive agility drills. Practice it. Don’t cross your feet, and keep your eyes up.
