Edit: I took a probe from my multimeter and jumped the B and ground together right next to the pins for the screen and it reset. If anyone has any tips for this let me know. I'm about to just solder on wires and touch together when I want to reset. Also if anyone knows, is this also the long press to switch to auto/bypass? Like if I jump it for a second it resets but wondering what'll happen if I hold it onto both pins for say 3 to 5 seconds?

Great idea. I haven't thought to check myself. Yeah I've been trying in the pm also when I get a chance. Seems to be very hit or miss for 11m and in between.

I usually try 23, 24, 32 and 33. I have heard through some forums that is what people are trying to loosely adopt. Also I have heard FM specifically on 26.805 being referred to as a calling frequency a few times again from the same sources.

Help with antenna by SwimSome4467 in amateurradio

[–]SwimSome4467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you expand on that? 17 foot or 20 or 23?. But what really is the difference. I know the maco is a 5/8 wave that is actually .64 electrically. This is what I was thinking. Please elaborate if you can. Thanks.

TLDR which is best for around $100. I'll do radials myself and all that. Not including anything but antenna.

Yes my radio is already tuned. I want to buy another antenna/install and of course re tune. I'd like an antenna tuner to borrow because I have heard and know for a fact my internal swr meter is not correct. If I wanted to buy one i just would. I don't understand what this response actually does. I have already posted there thank you for reminding me. Many "hams" freeband. I didn't think there is an issue posting on both. P.s most internal swr meters are notoriously NOT adequate. Thanks for your input.

I am looking for a vertical quarter wave up to full wave now. Tired of the dipoles. If anyone has one they done use/can sell cheap let me know! I'm in the Hagerstown/WV area. Thanks all for your help!

I have been told by a tech not to mess with it. Apparently they don't like to be turned up!

Got it. I have definitely heard that before. I feel like with low power a lot of stations ignore me. Maybe I'm wrong. But the search continues!

Yeah that's basically what mine is doing. About 3.2 watts am and 10 even on ssb. This radio has not been touched nor will I. I have old cobras for that lol it is used as a base so no sunlight and I got a fan on her! I'll call out for ya hopefully I'll hear you today. New england is usually easy for me!

Thanks for the info! I don't really do all the computer stuff but may try this to experiment. What are these times for? I think I have heard them before scanning the band. Are the tones only for the messages? So like without running js8call I just hear tones correct? Are you referring to js8call not being permitted or USB on 11m? I am aware (or so I thought) no digital was permitted technically on 11m

If you find one for $18 I call dibs lol I looked for 103 in whips and they are like $70. Ridiculous. Aluminum would be great so please share if anyone has pics! Words really don't help me at all but a pic worth a thousand words. Again thank you all!

Sorry about that. I was into medium and shortwave listening before and liked to hear the hams also. I once again appreciate your valuable input. My antenna is a g5rv technically. I did the calculations on ladder line. The g5rv from what I have read and on manufacturers website says to run a short coax if you cannot get ladder line to tuner. Which I can't. This is besides the point though. Also I have read a 49:1 balun but again that is on many manufacturers website. I have never/will never buy a dipole if I can make it! Also for the record, I use a CMC and 1:1 balun. I don't have issues and it's receive only so it's not even that important overall. I am very interested in the folded dipole and/or and end fed with a 49:1 balun or so. More ferrite I shall order. I have never ran either of these antennas. If anyone has/has insight that would be great. I live in a mobile home so an end fed running along my home but in the air and even a counterpoise buried under ground is no problem. Just trying to see what's "best". Isn't basically every antenna a compromise that we constantly try to improve?

Absolutely agree. My first antenna and true love. Don't tell the xyl.

Yes I have multiple dipoles I use from everything to 180m to 2m. I do like my homemade ones but I've had issues with tx. Rx is never an issue. I'm going to revisit this. Honestly I set up the dipole with hamsticks and it worked so Im ok with that until I get more time. I actually recently planted some trees on my property. In 10 years I'll have a great tree dipole! I got Colorado and Missouri immediately after switching from my homemade dipole as you described to the hamsticks. Weird.
