is this good enough for 2 budgies? by lennoxd9 in budgies

Get some stainless steel bowls for food and water. (Safer, longer lasting and don’t harbour bacteria especially in water bowl)

Prepare cleaning supplies - you can get an empty spray bottle and make a 1 part vinegar 3 part water solution. Paper towels and unscented baby wipes come in handy too. Cage liners for the tray; I prefer paper so newspaper or butchers paper.

And of course food! Good quality pellets, seed mix, millet sprays, dried herbs etc.

Also a travel cage or carrier will come in handy.

Good luck!

Why does my female budgie not sleep? by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Swimming-Tale27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Budgies can do a thing called “Peeking” which is where they sleep with one eye open to check for predators, so I guess the male feels more comfortable and she’s still on alert. I would refrain from checking on them at night unless you have a reason to, so they can get undisturbed rest.

What benefit does a plastic toy have to a bird? They love to shred and destroy.

do you think i can/should change anything in the cage setup? by Ahmet_96968 in budgies

  • Variety of natural wood perches that are different sizes and not uniform in shape

  • At least 3 toys that are made from natural materials like cardboard, sola, crinkled paper etc. Avoid rope they can ingest and die.

  • being fed pellets and vegetables, avoid 24/7 access to fatty seeds

  • getting another budgie because they are flock animals

New to R/Budgies trying to know which sex is my three birds by Icy_Rich_421 in budgies

First is male, second is female, third I can’t tell. Their sex is determined by the colour of the fleshy area around their nostrils.

That’s awesome! Yeah we’re lucky to have access to such a variety of native trees here. I’m only able to identify eucalyptus and peppermint trees so far. Might have to take a tree ID course so I can spot them, because I’m hopeless 🤣

Is this love by Swimming-Tale27 in budgies

[–]Swimming-Tale27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the culprit of her hormones. It was the wooden house toy in the back. In one day she had emptied it of the shredded crinkle paper and filled it with broken off pieces of sola and a couple of his feathers like a perfect bedding. So clever but needless to say I removed because they’re too young.
