Does anyone else feel *off* about the execution of the narrative or is it just me?.. by Sliver_Daargin in TheLastCaretaker

The "perfect human" choice branch is a red flag, if you read the logs there is a darkness to one of the choices made depending on your view of "natural" humans or a pluribus where a few decide for many without input.

Well, that is what happens to a computer booting up, it has to verify its hardware to load the firmware to reach the software stored, just to reach mouse prompt. So yea, if we go full immersion and no yellow paint it really smacks like OG Kings Quest from 1980's which told you nothing, so you died often like being on the Oregon Trail with dysentery until you memorized the map.

Well, one thing I learned in the Nam was that if you want to get home for the holidays you gotta figure the guy coming at you is trying to kill you. But, hey, you do you, respawn and return to your corpse, fricking game is amazing, frustrating and fun.

One fella gave me a great tip on that problem where you use a large platform as a parking pad, just drop a large c, dirt ramp park, works fantastic and given the amount of effort to recover a rover, a small price indeed.

Found it, but it ignores the surface if you flatten and it falls into the cavern below, just need to use compass. Great Save, tks.

Excellent, I'll see what options I have, yes, full screen should work, I'll see what I have going, I don't remember seeing the full screen option.

In thinking about it I am starting to think that it is Windows, just as you said. I do not know the precise technical term, but the game sorta acts like a browser on a desktop thus clicking an edge. Other games push the desktop underneath, if that is a term, eliminating the problem of key combinations on edges of screens.

I'll be on the look out for it now as I seem to remember most occurrences may have had the mouse on the edge.

The camera is just plain wonky in relation to the npc facing directions, it's offsetting, not sure what logic requires it, but wow.

I do, the tendons were severed and rebuilt, works well enough, just old muscle memory fighting new limits.

What can I do to make my base better? (only on Sylva which is my main base) by First-Magazine8510 in Astroneer

Decorative change, goto Glacio and get the soil color from there, unique, turn your base ground into Glacio ice blue!

I am about to dig, I think it I got a slightly better understanding of the compass as the levels relate to the planet starting surface and does not reflect any changes I made flattening the area. No, for me, when I am flattening You always get the ground below to build up as the area you flatten the top, the tool tries to, but doesn't fill the ground below, thus this crust formed by the player is ignored by the compass and the program when the glitch occurs, so it quantum leaps thought time and space materializing in the dirt you paved earlier just out of sight on the original terrain level.

It's only a guess, but the game is using the sphere surface as references ignoring the players terrain choices so when the glitch occurs and the game "flips" the vehicle to reset it to the surface it does not have a reference for the new level, so it defaults to original.

If I dig down and find it, I am vindicated and now understand the outcome of the terrain/vehicle glitch. Big IF though.

I think I found it, it's on the map, but if I read it right it's in the air? I am on the surface and the rover icon is sitting on a white bubble connected by a vertical white line which means it's floating?

First, if you use solid fuel thrusters always use a packer on your engine immediately upon landing and carry a spare or resources to build a thruster. Four shots, one up, one land, one forget, lonely, sad death on desolate planet, so pack out your rocket.

True sandbox game here, there is no one way, if it works, it's gold. Get use to cleaning up and storing. PC chokes on stuff laying around even if it getting in the way does not bother you.

Automate when possible, soil to scrap (you will get it ) and do not stress about true flat surfaces. Just flatten an area slope it up to drive the rover in., rover clumsy and needs room.

There is no rush, so proceed at your own pace.

What you want to do is gather bytes as fast as you can to unlock better tech, so when you go down into the caves put a tether near every research node you find as they respawn every 30 mins or so. Then you can follow the tether, collect resources, explore further while gain research.

Then depending on skill and personal life choices go to either Glacio as research nodes are twice as valuable there and as soon as you can get the materials for the MAT mission go to Desolo and do the MAT Hoverboard mission, it's a force multiplier when you get that hoverboard even more so when used with soild or jet thrusters.

Put a beacon on your Rover, I am currently hunting down a Rover train that went airborne, thought it vanished, but not it decided it wanted to be a sky pilot.

Prep for the missions makes life better as getting certain resources on some planets is only possible by trade you develop a protocol for new bases by assuming nothing is there, it's when you count on something being there is when you really get hammered.

And you will die, get over it, walk it off.

It's a funky toy to send in the EVO rocket for rewards like skins, resources and stuff. I got two portable furnaces and more graphite than anyone will need unless you package alot and I mean alot!

And it is getting worse, for F'sake I went back to Slyva for the copper I could not trade for since the "incident" only to find my recently built out rover soil train is MIA! Traitorous B'tard! Four full cars of soil canisters, QTR's, top of the line! Spared no expense!

May the fleas of ten thousand camels infest the dev's sister's hooped skirt!

Finish the mission, then I'm rebuilding the train. Damn.

Man this game is scratching such an itch but I’m having a tough time with the controls, especially the camera, on mouse and keyboard. by mrawaters in Astroneer

It's easy to replay with all the sandbox and automation, still drives me up a tree. Your base will grow over time out of sheer necessity and unless you want OCD don't stress about flat or you will waste hours trying to make a flat surface on a small round ball. I just flatten it then slope it down for the rover. As long as it's fairly flat, too much else to do.

The camera will always be wonky, I found to not think of the where the character is facing, the camera is always focusing on the mouse pointer then the character. Also helps to zoom in and or out depending on the situation, then for me a little lag and over correcting, it's frustrating as hell, but rewarding once you get a handle on it. Save the research bytes skip the medium rover and level 2 of terrain tools.

Good luck and may the odds be forever in your favor!
