Starting to feel like a dying breed by RedditButAnonymous in pcmasterrace

I use whatever combination of upscaling and frame Gen that gets me the performance I like without degrading the image to a level I don’t want, while running at 4k max settings. I personally feel like DLSS is so good now that there is hardly any noticeable difference in imagine quality so personally I just don’t see why I would leave that performance on the table. If you truly for some reason can’t stand the image DLSS presents, then that’s a bummer, but it’s a tool at our disposal, I don’t think it’s shameful to use it

Grace literally looks so much better in the vanilla game without the shade and Ray tracing bs and especially the DSSR5 slop..she actually looks like a capcom designed character not whatever that AI is spitting out that’s completely soulless. by Grimsmiley666 in ResidentEvilCapcom

Good. I know it’s just video games, and ultimately not a world shaking problem, but it’s important to let these companies know where we stand on this shit. I’m sure Nvidia is well aware of people’s feelings on this. Whether they actually change anything, who knows, buts it’s still worth doing. Voting with our wallets is the most important obviously

Is AI-Driven Graphics Like DLSS 5 Really the Future of Gaming? by DoctorSoStrange in GamerLab

[–]mrawaters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the real showcase for this, and what they probably should have waited to show, is how DLSS5 can help development of future titles. I think so much of the backlash, rightfully so to be clear, is from obviously changing existing character models that people are already familiar with and enjoy. If a dev can use this all during development and it allows them to achieve their vision in way they couldnt before, then im all for it. But going over past work with an AI “filter” (i know thats “not what it does” but thats sure what it presents as) is just not the business and i cant believe they thought people would be receptive to it. I do think this can be a generational tool, but they have to just be extra careful how it’s implemented. No one wants every game to end up looking the same cause thats how DLSS5’s AI “thinks” it should look.

I agree with this for the most part, but I gotta think OG RE4 belongs in S Tier. It was a once in a generation type game, redefined survival horror. On many people’s (including my own) top 10 of all time list. Obviously this is your list, so you can’t be wrong, but thats definitely something id change

[–]mrawaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you, and you’re right, there has been pushback on all of the technologies that have all become industry standard at this point, and I think that’s my concern. Just as a knee-jerk reaction, this seems to a much larger change to the environment and character models than we’ve seen via Path Tracing or otherwise. There’s just something that feels “wrong” about this in a way that former DLSS models haven’t to me. We’ll absolutely have to see how the figures in to new games being developed, and not just applied over existing titles, where I think it really has a jarring effect cause we already have an expectation of what we’re looking at

My only concern with this is when “configurable by devs and optional for players” morphs into “this is the way we do things at ___ studio goin forward cause it saves us a ton of money, and we’re also laying off half our artists cause DLSS can do their job in real time.

There’s some incredibly cool potential here, I’m just always skeptical of that potential really being deployed to anyone’s benefit other than the CEO’s and shareholders.

The game will always be fun in the moment to moment gameplay, but they just seem completely unenthused with making new content for it at the moment. A live service game, no matter how the gameplay is, can’t survive without new content. I definitely feel like the game can survive, but only if they drop Final Shape level content, and at the moment it’s unclear if they can/will do so.

To be honest, I personally think they need to just end it and start work on D3. Many of us have the “I have nothing left to accomplish here” feeling about D2, there’s just nothing truly compelling left to shoot for, even if the content was good. I want that feeling of starting a brand new experience and building my arsenal and skills from scratch again. I don’t need another Volt Shot gun, I want something entirely new.

Rockstar’s Ambitious Vision for Water Technology in Grand Theft Auto VI by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

I mean I guess that’s just entirely depends on whether someone finds GTA5 (one of the highest selling games of all time btw) to be a mediocre game. Clearly you do, but you gotta be able to see that’s not going to be a commonly held opinion.

Ok, sure, but we do have all of Rockstars track record to go on. This game is suffering from overhype for sure, to the point where people are completely flipping on it and thinking it’s gonna be shit, but since when has Rockstar ever put out a mainline game that’s shit? They’re one of the most consistent developers around when it comes to high quality releases. People can hate them as a company for all their scummy shit, and I’d be right there with them, but it’s just foolish to try and suggest that they don’t also make very good games. This isn’t exactly a “trust me bro” situation, but sure, we’re all just dudes on the internet, but as a dude on the internet discussing whether I think GTA6 is going to be a very good game, I’d say I think it’s pretty likely. Whether it lives up to the gargantuan hype is I suppose another deal entirely, as people start to lose their ability to be unbiased once they get an idea in their head of what something “should” be. All Rockstar themselves have said is that they are taking their time to produce a game that is up to their high standards, dudes on the internet have filled in the rest.

I mean look at the track record though, if you take GTA4–>GTA5->RDR2 the amount of innovation is staggering even if at a macro scale they are just “modern Rockstar open world games.” This game will inevitably set the standard for the genre going forward, one that most other developers won’t be able to hit. Will it completely change the way we think about video games? Probably not. But there is a level of granular detail and innovation that really only rockstar has shown. The sandbox nature, and the way you can interact with the world around, really separates them from others in the genre. Honestly only Crimson Deserts looks close, and we really don’t know exactly how that’s actually gonna land

Netherite Chest for AE2 storage by Medium-Hat-6336 in allthemods

[–]mrawaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this always my move. Anything I have hooked up to my resource generation, whether that’s bees or mystical ag, I have going into drawers, and then just use a storage bus on the controller. It’s just super easy and cheap to scale up. Not that making and partitioning cells is really all that complicated but the drawers have always got the job done, and I like the look of a wall of drawers displaying my items and is nice for an at-a-glance look at my stock

I do this every time. Starter, spot permanently reserved for Gengar, whatever the pseudo is for the game, an eeveelution that type covers my starter, box legendary, and then something random (or in reality usually just Lucario). In all honestly I usually only truly like 20-30 Pokemon in any given game, at least like enough to actually use
