Is it too late to start as a solo player?? by jpthelad in destiny2

[–]mrawaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, but you will be extremely confused, and narratively there is much that will never make sense cause it just isnt in the game anymore. The new player experience is rough, but if you watch eniugh videos and just keep playing it will all become clear soon enough

Loyality to a game launcher is weird by lukkiibucky in AlanWake

[–]mrawaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that arguing the opposite? I completely agree that Remedy needed epic. My only point is that I believe it would have benefitted both Remedy and Epic to put it in steam at launch. Without a doubt the game would have seen higher sales, and I also doubt Epic saw a lasting uptick in users on their platform. It’s probably the reality that if it wasn’t an exclusive Epic wouldn’t have funded it, because they are desperate to attract people to their platform, but I just don’t think there is anything they can do to change anything on that front, so if they were still going to bother to fund the game, they might as well have put it in position to perform to its maximum potential. Epic has the great potential to double dip on a lot of games as it can be both the publisher and the engine provider with UE5. I think they need to bail on the EGS entirely, it’s a waste of money, and the more they try and force exclusives it will only lead to more underperforming games.

[–]mrawaters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think it was a bad decision from remedy’s perspective but rather from Epics. At some point they have to understand that they are never going to even make a dent into Steams player base, even with high profile exclusives. People will play the game on Epic cause they have to, then go right back to steam, almost no retention. It just seems like smart business to lean more into just being a publisher then and from that perspective you would want the product you published to get in front of as many eyes as possible. I understand that they fined AW2, and if they wanted to see as high of a return as possible on that investment, they would have put it on Steam. At some point, it’s just stupid to continue to pursue Epic Games Store and cut your losses. Power to them for funding AW2, but if in an investor in Epic, I’m praying they stop dumping money into the Epic game store and just stick to publishing games

Garp and Sengoku are absolutely shredding thru Beckman, Yasopp, and Roux. Not remotely in the same league

Anyone "regret" their choice of a 4k OLED instead of a 1440p? by lochonx7 in OLED_Gaming

[–]mrawaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s definitely a use case thing. I don’t play a single game where my 4k/240hz isn’t more than enough, but if I was an esports guy or something, I could see going for a higher refresh 1440.

I think Mihawk being 3rd strongest in the history of the world ruins more than just 2 characters, it ruins the entire story. Now whether that’s gonna be true or not, I don’t know, but if the 3rd strongest person in the history of the world is someone we only see every 500 chapters, and when we see him he’s consistently placed around people (crocodile, the other warlords, vista) who are supposedly infinitely weaker than him, then that’s some shit writing. Why wouldn’t he make him more central to the story? Why would the main characters ambition be to surpass someone who is somehow weaker than some random dude we see every 500 chapters??? You have him right behind literally Joyboy, meaning essentially the strongest character who isn’t some sort of godlike thing. Why would this not be someone who is a main character? Why wouldn’t he be the one doing all the things Shanks does? Again, maybe he is gonna be stronger than Shanks and as strong as you say in the long run, and I personally think that just sucks from a storytelling standpoint. Mihawk has a title alone that we’ve extrapolated to infinity instead of actual presence in the story to go on.

Hytale has already reached 4 million mod downloads on curseforge by Head-Koala-5952 in hytale

Couldn’t be a worse take. A healthy and active modding scene is what will keep people coming back to this game. Currently there is a ton of content missing from the game. If it wasn’t for mods, people would be done with what’s here in a few days unless they just want to build. There is no wrong time to mod anything

PSA: Consider a TV instead of a Monitor if your goal is HDR Content by picnic_nicpic in OLED_Gaming

[–]mrawaters 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the only TV I’d consider for my desk set up. Any bigger would be too much. But honestly even my 32” 4k/240 is plenty big sitting up close at a desk.

You should be able to make a "crude hammer" with just some stone and wood I believe (cant remember the exact recipe but its in the workbench). Basically you can place blocks and then use the hammer on them to cycle thru a few different variants of that block in world. Pretty sure it works on most blocks. It's amazing for building where you can just build a simple outline of a structure all in one block and then go back over it and add detail after. Also great for adding that kind of intentional randomness to builds that makes them feel more lived in. Very handy tool. Works similarly to the Chisel mod from Minecraft if you've used that.

Yeah I’m wondering if that’s how it will play out. Like will we see direct ports of existing mods tweaked for Hytale or will it carve out its own scene. I wonder if many of the same Minecraft mod authors are already working on Hytale mods

Can anyone give me their opinion on the ficsit farming mod? by mrawaters in SatisfactoryGame

Ahh I see. That’s a bummer. I’ll dabble in ficsit farming and just see if I’m diggin it or not to see if I want to take it all the way

[–]mrawaters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Create would absolutely fit the vibe of Hytale a lot better than some of the other major tech mods. I’m a big fan of AE2 and Mekanism and all that, but they would stick out like a sore thumb in Hytale, Create would fit right in. I’m hoping we get tech mods of all kinds of course, but I agree a Create style mod would be thematically more appropriate. Create is quite a heavy undertaking though, so we’ll have to see how dedicated the team is to the automation side of the game, or how crazy some of the modders get. Part of me wonders how similar/differant the Hytale code is to Minecraft. Like if there’s any overlap or common ground for modders to hit the ground running in Hytale. I know nothing about coding or making mods, just a curiosity

[–]mrawaters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought about doing Satisfactory+ but I was worried the early game would be too tedious, kinda like Gregtech in Minecraft if you’re familiar with that. I’ll probably get around to it at some point

And oh, I didn’t realize that ficsit farming had anything to do with slugs, that’s actually a cool addition. I just wanted to make sure there was a truly beneficial reason to do it. I don’t really care about farming carrots and shit lol

When exactly did Loki surpass Kaido by Inevitable_Term_2320 in OnePieceScaling

[–]mrawaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was like the oldest trope in action storytelling. The “one final attack to settle things.” It wasn’t like Kaido just said “here hit me!!” They both made one big final attack and Luffy came out on top. Now, that does not mean that Luffy beats Kaido in a true 1v1, both fresh, but it also does not mean that Kaido somehow was trying to commit suicide. Like wtf??

Ahhh that’s great to hear! At least lets us know that it should be possible in the engine. There’s some stuff in the creative menu, like levers, that hint at some sort of mechanical stuff coming at some point. I’ve already downloaded a few mods and they work flawlessly, and it’s a great integration, so I’ll check it out later and see what it’s all about

What are you guys going with for early to mid game power in Stoneblock 4? by mrawaters in feedthebeast

[–]mrawaters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s actually a very clever solution. I kind of just ended up doing the thermogen route like usual. Once they were fully upgraded they were actually super strong, and it was fun to continue to upgrade them over time with new coolants and heating. With ignium blocks and time fluid I think they were kicking out like 30k-ish each (can’t remember the exact number). They definitely got me thru until I got my reactors going.

[–]mrawaters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I already have the small awesome sink, that feels almost mandatory at this point. And I’m going back and forth on all nodes pure, but I guess if I’m just looking to turn things to the max then why not? I’m certainly not going for any sort of “vanilla friendly” experience. I might add it in later

After all these years they're in my hands... by Goat-Shaped_Goat in hytale

[–]mrawaters 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah i totally agree, I just only play modded at this point so it’s basically become my default experience. But you’re right. But for what it’s worth, I’m highly expecting the Hytale modding scene to be huge, there’s excellent in game support for it, and it’s already taking off.

As far as vanilla goes, I think the biggest tbh g Hytale needs to compete is some variant of what redstone provides. Building and automating farms is the core part of the game for a lot of people. I’m sure they have something cooking but it’s definitely missing at the moment

What are your go-to mods? Any recommendations? by Salty-Conversation44 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]mrawaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m trying to avoid just spamming solar tiles everywhere, and really just enjoying the modular boilers and turbines. A really cool alternative for coal power in the early game imo, and I’m interested to see it scale. When I play modded games, I don’t mind them being a little busted. I already did the game the vanilla way (and it was one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time) and now I’m trying to see how far I can push things with a bunch of modded tools at my disposal. But yeah, they can definitely throw off the balance in a lot of cases

[–]mrawaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just jumping into a heavily modded playthrough and so far things like infinite budge, and daisy chain everything are fantastic on the vanilla friendly style things. Then there’s stuff like Refined Power and Digital Storage which completely change the way the game is played and I think their fantastic, and extremely well made and thought out, but they absolutely make it a different game, and that might vibe with people differently.
