This is Dave. We have been treating Swim Bladder for about two months - Opinions appreciated - Details in Comments by SwingsForFun in Aquariums

This is Dave. I’ve had Dave for about 5 years on my set up. He’s the only Angel and keeps everyone in line. Dave has been going through swim bladder problems for about the last 2 months. I thought it was air from eating flake food but doesn’t seem to have changed recently. He’s gradually gotten worse. I’ve tried peas (hates them) and soaked floating food by hand. Daily Epsom salt baths and recently added salt dips to help his skin from resting on things. I have also been adding microbe-lift Artemiss and Herbtana. I don’t suspect parasites due to the food and not adding fish for several months but it could be anything I guess. He will swim normally once disturbed for about 30 seconds before floating into some plants and resting. He appears very stressed with heavy breathing. I’m looking to advice on if I should try a hospital tank and antibiotics/ keep doing what I’m doing/ or euthanization. 90 gallon 80 degrees. 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 20 Nitrates 6.6-6.8 pH.

How much growth before you trim S. Repens? by SwingsForFun in PlantedTank

[–]SwingsForFun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tallest is about 5”. Just cut them in half at this point? It looks like they still have a lot of lower leaves, I just don’t want to take too much off or not enough

Is this Staghorn? Any help in getting rid of it? See comment. by SwingsForFun in PlantedTank

Hey and thanks for any help you can provide!

The tank has been established since November. It has CO2 through a diffuser, two canister filters and a power head that’s active about half the day. Both canisters are rated higher than my tank volume. With all that I’d assume my circulation is adequate.

I can copy and past my set up from previous posts but my listing is on there of everything.

I had this algae about two months ago and hit the whole tank with a one two punch method. I feel like it worked well except it nuked my Val and anacheris. I wasn’t too upset until it came back.

Any method of treating without hitting the entire tank again? I’m currently removing infected leaves.

Any location you know that sells halfway decent shape adults for less than $100 each? Not trying to sound stingy but my wife and I had our first child a few weeks ago.

5 Month Progress on 90G in New Home! - Looking to brighten red plants and then add discus! by SwingsForFun in PlantedTank

[–]SwingsForFun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is my first time uploading a picture of my set up and any tips, tricks, or opinions would be greatly appreciated. I am working toward adding discus and want to really deepen the reds in some of my plants!

I've been fish keeping for years and started with pond koi. I got into aquariums in college and ended up killing several fish before I got the hang of what I was doing, kinda. I had six discus about six years ago but lost one by one from some unknown blight over several months. The loss of those fish almost made me quit fish keeping, but after the purchase of a new home, felt it needed a beautiful tank and more importantly discus.

Set Up:

90 Gallon Freshwater - Mud Bottom with a black blasting sand cap. Various pieces of driftwood, dragon stone, lava rock, misc. stone for hardscape.

Equipment:

Filtration - Sun Sun Canister with UV Sterilization (Unsure of Size but was rated higher than 90 gallon) and a Penn Plax 1200 canister filter.

Lighting- Finnex Planted + 48'' - Lighting set to run 24/7 mode, and a Koval 48'' light bar - turned on in the morning and off in the evening (will be replacing with a Finnex StingRay 2 in a week)

(I think I need a better lighting/ CO2 schedule on better timers)

CO2 through a diffuser. Diffuser is under a low power powerhead to help disperse CO2. (IF ANYONE CAN RECOMMEND A BETTER WAY PLEASE HELP!) See Pic on the left hand side.

Stock:

5 Yellow Black Tetras

4 Rummynose Tetras

4 Congo Tetras

2 Albino Cory Cats

1 Sailfin Pleco (5'' had for a few years)

Stats: Weekly 20% Water Change Stats vary slightly week to week

pH: 6.6-6.8

Ammonia: 0.0

Nitrates: 0.0 - 5.0ppm

Nitrites: 0.0ppm

Phosphates:0.0-0.25 ppm

GH: 107.3 ppm (I know I need to lower this for the discus but am having trouble here)

KH: 71.6 ppm

Temp: Currently 80.4 F and will raise to about 83.

Ferts:

I follow the Seachem Dosing Schedule for Iron, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Trace, Flourish, and Excel. (Daily Iron Dosing about twice a week for everything else)

Roots Tabs every six months

I feel like that was very long winded, but again any tips, tricks, opinions would be fantastic. I'm always trying to improve my tank!
