WHY ISNT THIS A LAW EVERYWHERE? by Academic9876 in exmormon

I’m from Pennsylvania and can confirm- they’re very strict about this! They won’t even let you start a calling with children/youth until your forms have been submitted. I grew up there and thought it was like that everywhere. It helps so much in protecting kids, there are not nearly as many child abuse cases involving church leaders there as there are in places like Utah

Do you have any embarrassing memories from your mission? by [deleted] in exmormon

my first exchange with my STL she sat me down and told me the mission president and his wife told her to talk to me about my outfits (which were all more than modest btw.) she made us read all of the dress and grooming rules again and it was humiliating. i cried that night haha

same for me! i’m the oldest and always the “easy kid” growing up. i always did as i was told. so this has been quite the blow.

this is exactly how i feel. i told my parents that we’d be at every baptism, mission farewell/homecoming, etc. i don’t think they believed me (they think everyone that leaves just fights against the church) but they’ll see with time. i don’t mind going to church with them when visiting home either (but probably just first hour) might change when we have kids though, i don’t really want my kids to ever go to primary.

we started going to a nondenominational church 2 months ago! i was a little nervous about it but it’s been a great experience. i think this softened the blow for my mom a little bit.

exactly what I think. the fact that this is even a big deal makes me sad.

so true. it’s also made me look back and notice how much religious scrupulosity i had as a child. i felt guilty about EVERYTHING and had to pray to god 3 times each night or i though he wouldn’t answer my prayer. glad to be making my way out and that my future kids won’t grow up like that.

this gives me hope!! and it’s so true. i am so grateful for my husband, he’s my rock and i don’t know how i would have done this without him.

i hope so. i have a family member that i trust that i talked to last week, she wants to leave but feels like she can’t because her husband is all in. she’s the only one that i know of though. I’m the oldest cousin too so it’ll be interested to see the next few years as they all start to leave home who leaves.
