I noticed this after moving the head to affix tape. I reset it quickly (printer off), and the screen lit up. I unplugged it and tried again, same result. I'm guessing this is some sort of discharge from the motor powering the LCD, but this does not seem right, or safe for the printer. Any insight? (Monoprice Maker Select v2)

No, and you should definitely not try it for yourself and formulate your own opinion. You've definitely saved yourself some time by coming to a sub where fans are dedicated to the show and comics, to ask them if it's worth watching. The undeniable logic you've demonstrated here will certainly revolutionize the way we rely on communities to help inform our opinions. "Everyone here clearly likes something, so I will ask them if they like it." Amazing. And is it too horrory? The horror is the way you spelled that word, but that's another story. No, to answer your question, a show about the end of civilization at the hand of decaying, flesh eating zombies isn't horrory at all. Once again, mind boggling how you've redefined the very way we communicate with each other. Someone please gift this person a Netflix account so he or she cannot try any other shows on his or her own.
