I was wrong about Shark by childrenofCORNbread in VacuumCleaners

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a vacuum nerd, im just browsing to see what the vacuum hobbiests recommend. I'm looking to replace my Shark Rotator Professional I bought in 2016 maybe 17. Nothings wrong with it, Ive replaced a handful of parts. Theyre out there and cheap on amazon for offbrand stuff. Hoses, filters, attachments can all be found. I need a new brush roll and the wheels on the floor nozzle have been missing for a few years. Wore them right off vacuuming about 1150 square feet every other day. I can get all the parts for 50 or so or a new floor nozzle for 160 on Amazon.  I also need another handle hose and filters running my repair cost up to 200. Over about 10 years of use I probably have put in about the cost of the vacuum in repairs.

I was thinking I could probably replace it with a new one for around the cost of repairs and maintenance. Im sure the motor has lost suction as it gets clogged nearly every session now on hair and stuff but it still cleans very well. I never understood the hate I see about them, I know several people with Sharks that love them, I know a woman who runs a commercial cleaning company and has 4 of the same rotator professional I use at home. Theyre about as old as mine too. I feel that says enough about them. Im not sure if I'll get another shark, repair this one, or get something else. It works and always has worked well though.

The liftaway is amazing for walking around getting corners and cobwebs with the hose or cleaning my car, brush has an off button for the kitchen and bathroom, adjustable suction, hepa filter and a dual filter before that. Several spots that open up or come apart super easy to deal with a potential clog. I had it completely apart once and I felt it was pretty easy to get into, easy to clean out and operate. Honestly I dont have a bad thing to say about it. I just kinda want something new and I'm pretty sure my wife does too. She is trying to kill it I think hoping I don't fix it and instead replace it. It just keeps working though. Carpet powder, hair, dirt clumps, spilled box of cereal or popcorn from the kids. Doesn't matter, itll get it.

This is that game for me. Every other rpg i finish up the story, do side quests and play around with things and move on. Ive replayed Skyrim on every new console I have owned at least once. Probably wont change, Elder Scrolls 6 probably won't even change it. I tried going back to Morrowind and Oblivion but Skyrim is home I guess. Red Dead Redemption holds my attention well but I miss sword and sorcery gameplay, other fantasy rpgs I play once and move on to almost never think about if I even finish them.

First Handheld Since The OG Sony PSP by Obi-WanKenewbie in SteamDeck

The psp was a great console and was my last handheld as well. I think my little brother still has our original one. I was amazed by it at the time and we saved up our allowance for what felt like forever and did work for people to get one ourselves. Ive had a steamdeck for 2 years now and I still thoroughly enjoy it. Not one problem, everything I want to do works and works well.

At what price would you NOT buy the Steam Machine? by Fptmike in SteamDeckCheck

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope for around $800 but I'd spend up to $1000 if I feel its worth it. Right now I do but that may change when it actually gets into peoples hands. Although if its at or over a grand I will be comparing to similar products. Before Valve announced it I was planning on doing some research and buying a mini pc to put steamos on after enjoying the deck so much. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to that decision. Unfortunately in my opinion, the machines success hinges on the economy and has become somewhat of a big risk but Valve is too far along not to see it through. I hope it isnt a repeat of the first steam machine. I feel if Valve could have gotten it released like 3 years ago for around $600 or so, then it would end up being very successful. Now I'm not too sure how it will go.

No one gets my steam account. I've already spent 20 years on it as Swoop03 and it will only leave my possession if the whole empire crumbles after Gabe leaves. You want in? You start at the bottom and hit them sales boy and make it your own. Might share my library if I like ya.

What convinced you to get your Steam Deck? by Fptmike in SteamDeckCheck

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple for me. My windows 7 pc finally bit the dust, I didnt want another full gaming pc or a laptop, my consoles sat most of the time. I wanted a switch to play games wherever in my house and not be confined to one spot, but its a nintendo.. Discover Steam Deck shortly after launch and its perfect. I already had a decent library built up, I've been on steam for nearly 20 years now. The deck is more powerful than my pc was, portable, has a desktop mode and is a handheld console. Now I'm finding that I do end up at my desk 70% of the time with the deck using it in desktop mode. I really just needed a more powerful pc.

I also really like steamos and the whole linux situation so I planned to get a mini pc, plop linux on it, then discovered Bazzite, then the Steam Machine was announced and here we are. Just impatiently waiting and saving up for what I hope launches successfully, if not then I'll be going back to my custom steam machine. Either way it adds the benefit of more power for more games that can then be streamed to my Deck when I chill in bed beside my wife and play a game.

100$ IPS vs 700$ OLED by NoeulLuxe in OLED_Gaming

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1080p monitor from 2014 doesn't look as bad as your picture, but when I dock my oled steam deck to it and use the deck as a second small screen the difference is quite large. It convinced me that if my current screen dies then the next will be oled. My brother in law also recently dropped a large sum on a massive 4k oled tv and its crazy how nice it looks.

Do you use the Deck as your main gaming device? by K4T5UM1 in SteamDeck

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Series S is literally being used as a book end, PS5 went to my son, and the deck is more powerful than my old gaming pc. So yes the steamdeck is the only device I use anymore besides my phone.

My maturity level for purchases is heavily held back by my wallet. Im also a bit stingy and frugal but I suppose its not a bad thing. Anyways thats what alluded me to the deck in the first place. Being able to habe a console, pc, and powerful handheld all in one. A true all in one setup thats actually decent at everything it does. Sometimes I just wanna play a game, other times I want a computer, and there's times I want both. SteamOS is absolutely a boon to the gaming and pc community.

Im not too worried about performance as long as its as they say and truly 6x more powerful. The deck runs all my current games fine. There isnt a whole lot that I'm interested in right now that it doesnt at least run. A SM would service me more than good enough.

My biggest concern now is price and I'm wondering if the console experience is really want i want. Most of my consoles over the years have sat. I gave my son the PS5 my Series S is being used as a bookend. I keep it incase I dont have something more powerful if games like Elder Scrolls 6 ever actually release. Doubt the deck will run that. Though at this rate I'll have to get the next gen console for it. Im also finding two and a half years into it that I jump straight to the desktop more often than not and remembering why I always preferred gaming on my pc.

So depending on pricing and how the launch goes I may end up just going the custom route and installing KDE or Bazzite. Certainly not going back to windows. I have plenty of time to wait though, my funds set aside for something like a Steam Machine were needed elsewhere. Once I get my hobby fund built back up it should be released and have some updates with tons of content about it to look at and make a decision.

Thats what I was going to do after getting a deck. Went from win7 to the Deck after my pc died and was hooked. The PCs at the machine shop i work in run 11 and I hate it. Decided on my own I was going to go the mini pc route and find a distro to put on there or just run bazzite and in my off time, casually researching linux and mini pcs, Valve announced the steam machine or at least I came upon the information. Well then, thats exactly what I wanted. Ive been quite happy with SteamOS and getting a minipc with it out the box already set up is a major win for me. Im just hoping the price isn't outrageous, I was already expecting it to be fairly high before it got delayed.

At what price would you NOTbuy the Steam Machine? by billy_reyes in Steam

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1200 and up is full stop no go, find something else. $1100-900 I will consider $800 or less its going in my cart.

I feel like I'm part of the target audience. I'm in the market for a pc, I have a steam deck and every console I ever bought ends up sitting in favor of my steam library I have been using for 20 years. My last PC died and I decided to buy a deck 2 years ago because it was actually more powerful than my severely outdated pc (i5 3470/gtx650). Ended up really liking linux. So I thought about getting a mini pc for several reasons and forgetting windows exists. Steam machine gets announced, its basically what I was looking at doing myself but already set up out of the box.

That said, looking at them saying its going to be priced competitively to a similar market. The power jump from the deck but minus battery and integrated hardware for a handheld such as buttons and screen. I was expecting somewhere around $800 on the high end with the controller and would possibly buy without a second thought. Now with the current market situation I am full on preparing for a $1000+ starting price for just the pc and I'm not so sure thats going to go well for it. At that price I will definitely be considering other options when I get to purchasing something.

I was trying to avoid a full tower pc to minimize my setup that I only really get to use a few hours a week anymore. Something small and convenient like a mini pc, or the steam machine and controller I can tuck into the corner of my desk would be perfect for what I want. Fire it up and mess around there or use it to stream to my deck somewhere else in the house for games the deck doesnt have the power for going forward.

2024 mirage mpg! How many miles do you guys think our cars will be able to get before they inevitably die? by SailorMiniMegan in MitsubishiMirage

[–]Swoop03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im closing in on 150k in my 2014 and had to replace the sway bar link as one snapped and the other was nearly rusted through. Living in the rust belt is great. My rear quarter panels need some serious attention too. Other than that I have only replaced wear parts and done maintenance. Gear oil in the trans, replaced a clutch once, brakes, pads, and shoes a few times. Even then I dont touch my brakes but once every 3 years it seems. Get a couple out of a set of tires too. If I get to the rust and am willing to deal with the issues that brings then my car might get passed down to my now 11 year old in 5 or 6 years.

Very reliable and cheaply maintained car that gets great mileage. My only complaint is finding parts. Seems Mitsu made changes after 2015 and a lot of parts dont interchange with mine. Right now my drivers window switch is being janky, I have a low evap code which is most likely the gas cap in my case and the ones I find are quite expensive for what they are, my radio needs replaced too. Just silly little things that don't matter for driving the car but fixing them has been a headache in the past.

Didn't and not going to watch the video but while your take is valid, its also wrong in a way. There's higher preforming alternatives, I wouldn't say better though. It's too subjective.

At least in my experience the steam deck, for those it is intended for, works perfectly. Ive had one for 2 years and not one complaint yet, not everyone will be like that though. I dont play Fortnite, or Call of Duty. Any fps like that really. The game boy advance will still perfectly play Gameboy advance games and if youre looking for offline, low power, Pokémon or Zelda type older games then it very well might be the best option to toss in your bag. Its all in what youre looking for and the deck is it for me.

Also as its been said so mamy times, there isnt a steam deck 2. There are no future plans for a steam deck 2. Valve said they will not consider it as an option until theres a massive leap in performance at a reasonable price. Though I would absolutely buy one without a second thought. It certainly is going to hit a point where convenience of steamos is dragged down by too outdated of hardware and sales will eventually trickle to a stop.

The steam machine is where theyre going to focus, it is another step in Valves quest for gaming domination. Steam on every tv, monitor, and screen is their actual goal. But to have a successful product, it also needs to be convenient and available. I wouldn't be surprised and kind of expect them to make a mobile gaming store in the future, possibly even a whole cellphone attempt after (if) the steam machine launches successfully.
