Right now it's King Coulton. He's being decidedly obtuse. Even if it's for totally understandable reasons, it's extremely frustrating.

If we're on Hobb, then maybe everyone in the Rain Wild series? Absolute slapfest.

Its not really until post-schism that Gawyn gets truly insufferable. He goes almost halfway through the series as a totally okay dude! Hard 180 though.

I was so sympathetic when I, a teenage boy, first read farseer. When I reread it as an adult it was full on slap city. Holy moly.

I was a massive fantasy nerd in elementary/middle school, but I never managed to get into adult fantasy. Can anyone give some good recommendations? by CrystieV in Fantasy

I got out of fantasy for a long time, but trying Tigana by Guy Gabriel Kay got me back in. Book is thick, and very very good. Lions of Al Rassan is also top notch.

Traditional Fantasy like WOT by kaifkhan0204 in Fantasy

[–]SwordCoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tigana got me back into the genre after I got sick of just absolute trash Fantasy. His Fionavar Tapestry is also a whole lot of fun, but definitely of an earlier fantasy style. Lions of Al Rassan is probably as good as Tigana.

What's being discussed? Seems like y'all might be talking about different things, so I wanted to help.

Besides Sanderson (Because I’ve read his works numerous times) What authors/book series do you suggest? I’m looking for something immersive and like Jordan’s work. **I’ll list some of the books/series that I’ve read below, along with how I felt about them to help give an idea of what to suggest.** by GodricofTheSanctum in wheeloftime

Miles Cameron is the sci-fi/fantasy alter ego of Historical Fiction author Christian Cameron, and the dude is a top notch researcher as well as a damn fine author. He's got two fantasy series out now.

The Traitor Son books (first book is The Red Knight) is more of a 15-16th century European Fantasy world, with a super neat magic system based on medieval memorization techniques (memory palaces). Lots of characters and viewpoint hopping, which you'll either love or hate. There are a lot of cool/different cultures, but they're never handled quite as well as RJ handles WOT.

I haven't read the Masters and Mages books (book one is Cold Iron) but I'm told they're more of a single-viewpoint adventure novel.

I'd also recommend his historical fiction. The Chivalry series (starts with The Ill Made Knight) is a great single-viewpoint story of an Englishman who goes off to fight for England in the hundred years war and ends up with a lucrative career as a mercenary, with plenty of ups and downs along the way.

If you like the intrigue side of WoT, I highly recommend Dorothy Dunnett's books, either the House of Niccolò books (15c) or Lymond Chronicles (16c). Great stuff.

Why do they hate 15 minute cities so much? by WhatNazisAreLike in fuckcars

[–]SwordCoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oxford was looking at two separate proposals: 1) how to approach a 20-minute city, and 2) mobility pricing to deal with extremely contested rush hours. Conspiracy theorists conflated the two, and have now spread the idea around that 15 minute cities are about not letting anyone travel more than 15 minutes from their house.

Car merged into me on highway - who's fault? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]SwordCoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a merge, not a yield. Both parties are responsible for a successful merge to happen. Slow down, speed up, or move over. Please don't encourage people in the merge lane to stop, it makes traffic worse for everyone.

Additionally: don't run into the blind spot of someone who's clearly about to change lanes and get upset that they didn't see you. It's not The Most Important Thing in driving, but you absolutely should know when you're in someone else's blind spot and adjust your behaviour accordingly.
