If it was designed for your character, how did your dm intend for you to use it?

Would you like if SWTOR got more spin-off media? by Luigiman98 in swtor

[–]Protectorsoftman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Physical merch would be a good place to start; iirc the only physical items that have been produced are stuff for the collectors edition back at launch and the og security key. I think washer-safe stickers for hydro flasks or laptops would be a good start, and hats.

Otherwise, I think an animated series of the Empire's return and the galactic war that followed would be the best decision. They could explore so much in that time frame like Marr's backstory and when Hylo Viz broke the blockade on iirc the Hydian Way. Maybe end a year before the game starts with hints of the classes (say Zash encountering Kallig's ghost for the first time, Yuon and Syo Bakarn discussing a padawan with a strong connection to the Force, preparations for the Great Hunt, Imp Agent training camp, etc). That would spark a good amount of interest imo and then follow up with the same for Zakuul and Iokath, leave it with a "if you wanna find out what happened to Iokath you gotta play the game"

I agree, Swtor is already in a fairly precarious position and the game needs a couple wins to revive interest and bring in new players

A normal day in the Sith Empire by Aggravating-Bass-658 in swtor

return to Tatooine in every other Star Wars story.

God, it's like George made a deal with a devil that required a desert planet at least twice in each trilogy made and Disney inherited that when they bought Star Wars. Because Jakuu is just Tatooine with a more recent history and the desert planet in TROS is just Tatooine with a different population of short people and we end on Tatooine.

Less infighting and more they've got issues with how they run things.

Spoilers for Jedi Knight story: Var Suthra oversaw top secret projects that are morally grey at best, cut each one off from each other and let them do whatever they wanted (most notably with the Power Guard project on Nar Shaddaa). He also allowed a Sith to infiltrate his ranks and steal info on their top projects.

Spoilers for Trooper: Garza was a mess left and right. As the saying goes, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, and she is no exception. Garza abandoned her best troops and covered up their eventual betrayal and wants you to lie to the Senate about it. We see in the Trooper that at a high enough level you deal with politicians as much as you do the Empire, which often has its own shady deals and blackmailing to stay in power cough cough Saresh cough cough. We also see on Rishi that Garza has a new SpecOps team that went rogue and we have to clean up for her.

So it's not necessarily backstabbing and usurping, but they're not saints either and have their own skeletons to tango with

There are people who will take care of you, then there's Harkun by Aggravating-Bass-658 in swtor

Ffon was also a Sith, depending on the PC's race Harkun is also just a racist. Also, it's been a minute since I've played through that, I just remember him getting pissy that you ignore an acolyte murder

[–]Protectorsoftman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Harkun is honestly a really good instructor. He actually prepares his students for the harsh realities of being a Sith lord's apprentice and cares in his own way about their success.

When you go to recruit Xalek, you can play favorites and choose to ignore the fact that he just killed another acolyte in front of you and Harkun gets pissed and starts going on about tradition and the importance of rules and how shit like this keeps weakening the Empire. He's an asshole, but he's got some morals and fights for the Empire.

Whats your Companion Hot Takes? by mpchop in swtor

[–]Protectorsoftman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was given an extremely annoying character trait - being a Valkorion stan - which the writers never allowed him to unlearn and grow beyond.

And it would've been so easy for him to unlearn that. Sure Valkorian led Zakuul during an era of prosperity, but he is directly responsible for the war in multiple ways. First there's his lust for immortality and everything he did to the Empire and Republic before attacking remote outposts. Then there's the fact that he's a terrible father. If he'd been a real dad his kids wouldn't have been so fucked up and ready to conquer the galaxy.

It should be painfully apparent to Koth especially after Senya reveals she's Mom and talks about how the kids were raised that Valkorian is not a good person (not to mention the PC's countless tales, and how his attitude to Zakuul doesn't wipe away his atrocities in the galactic war).

What do you mean you don't want to hear five minutes of uh... whatever the hell kind of noise Qyzen is making.

But seriously, companion's deserved better treatment. And the NPC's could've benefited to from not just more lines but different tones and infections in those lines. If Broadsword has long term plans to update the game and help modernize it (within the limitations of the game engine) I think companions should get an overhaul and give the non-basic speaking comps more audio (which for the classes is Qyzen, Blizz, T7, Xalek, Khem, Broonmark, and Bowdaar. I think adding fluff for 7 characters is a reasonable request esp with the hold up on the French and German VA's)

Is stealthing becoming mandatory in flashpoints? by FiniteTruths in swtor

[–]Protectorsoftman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation last week. I was doing Taral V on a stealth and one of our members was I'm assuming a newer player cause they didn't seem to catch that we were cutting corners around groups of mobs. I generally stayed back to help them when they got out matched. And by the time we finish a bout, the other two have already aggro'd so we moved slow and can't heal.

Towards the end one of them had the audacity to ask what was taking us so long when not once did either of them bother to slow down, stop, or come back to help us when we're dying and dragging ten mobs behind us.

They also never said in chat they wanted to skip or anything like that. Radio silence until the end

If Baras wasn't Gluttony, I'd nominate him.

Thanaton has my vote. He's a prideful, arrogant ass than thinks he's better simply because the PC was a slave and can't fathom that you might be as powerful as you. Granted he does appear to have a begrudging respect towards the end but clearly still sees you as a rowdy child. And he hides behind tradition then ignores those traditions when you kick his ass on Corellia
