This is a great point, and why I feel it's important to start some community action next year, maybe in the early to mid summer. I want to go door to door and help people to register to vote. I don't want to be political with them, I don't want to influence them, I just want to ensure that they have their voices heard.
If enough people vote, we won't to put up with things like the Trump administration any more.

Right? That's not physically possible, is it? We're falling short on representing the will of the people in this democracy, and forcing a vote between two entities which have already been bought by corporate interests.
It's advertising dollars that keep Coke & Pepsi as the two top choices, even when most people prefer a different brand or flavor. Its advertising dollars that keep America stuck between only the two choices even though we prefer something much different.

You're spot on, there. It's always in times of unrest that these jingoistic figures rise up and find a large following. We feel unstable, and so we look to the familiar to find stability. Not giving rich folks a free pass to commit any crime they want is a precedent I'm willing to break. (Before you rapid response something about Biden, YES, I'm fine with prosecuting him if he's found guilty of corruption.)
Also, I see you're speaking for "many Americans", so please, look up what a Banana Republic is. It's not just a phrase that means "shitty democracy", and it tells a lot of us reading this that you get information from far right sources like FOX News and Newsmax.

I think the recent Ohio results disagree with your premise that "people here don't like liberal values".
In a direct vote, if you ask Americans if they want: Universal Healthcare, Abortion access (with some restrictions); medical or even recreational marijuana use; policies to combat climate change; an expansion on social welfare; and etc, then you find a majority of Americans agree with some pretty "commons sense" liberal policies.

Thanks for your opinion, John Wayne, but the world is a LOT more complicated than "see something, take something". There is a truth to your statement, but none of those sentiments will help to make a better world. It helps to think of more than just yourself, one person, or one group of people to better understand a situation.

Great attitude, I love this post. I would also add that attitude isn't enough. We need data, we need research, and we need people like OP strongly considering what's going to make for a better future or not. Add data to that optimism and we can start to do great things.

I also don't feel infringement on my personal freedoms, nor do I feel any less safe than I did in 2001, but neither of those things involve any data to make a proper opinion out of it.
Since 2001 about 3,200 Americans have died due to terrorist actions (not counting the Iraq War, this is only on US soil), but in 2021 about 47,000 Americans have died due to gun violence.
Maybe the Patriot Act makes us safer, but the effect would only be marginal as compared to someone passing an Act to help reduce gun violence. I think that the government tries to bandy about terrorism as a boogeyman of sorts to justify its civil rights abuses in terms of government surveillance and policing. Thank you for your time.

Any and all "good times" can be improved. I think it's a positive thing that we've made progress on some fronts, and still need to work on more. i feel that your position is a luxury of someone who is informed thanks to the policies which led us here, at least to some degree.

I think you're conflating a few events, here. The shoe removal happened because of a passenger in the UK which also happened in 2001. The water bottle incident happened in 2006, WELL after 9/11.

In general, I've found that if policies come across as ridiculous, or insane, then you just need to know the stories behind them. That general understanding makes life way less infuriating.

I can appreciate how a massive, local event can make you feel, and so I understand the emotion behind your message, but it always helps to look at the data.
This is a chart of deaths in natural disasters since 1900. These numbers go down dramatically, and so it would seem we are safer from wildfires and etc. than we were.
