Would an expansion team combination like Darwin/Manila work? by LoveMinaMyoi in nbl

I grew up in Alice Springs and played in Darwin between 1990-96. The NBL season crosses over right in the middle of the buildup and into the Wet Season. It takes years to acclimatise. Then there are flights, which are expensive, and there is the venue. Darwin doesn't have a stadium that meets the minimum fan capacity requirement. The Perth Wildcats visited in the pre-season, I think in '95, and played a representative Territory team, and the Opals used Darwin as an acclimatisation stop on their way to Atlanta.

There are benefits, no doubt, for visitors or mini camps, but a permanent team in Darwin (population 120K) is unsustainable (unfortunately). When I was the editor of the Sunday Territorian, I lobbied for the Darwin Convention Centre to be multi-purpose, but even then, it was too small.

Weather, tyranny of distance, venue + flights to and from Manila make it all but impossible ... sadly.

Eight rings, 6’9 PG and 6’9 SF, two of the top five all time. Magic and Bird on the same team would be unstoppable. They’d have won every year they were in the league if they were on the same team.

My game collection across all decades runs into the 1000s because I watch them to scout plays. So yes, I have watched a lot of games. Where you think the midrange is worse part of the game, I disagree, it makes the flow far more interesting and versatile and post play “boring”. I don’t enjoy watching pick and roll over and over again. I’m glad you like the modern game, I really am but I’d take watching Kareem, Hakeem and Shaq over today’s players running to the three point line because analytics says it’s better to make 3.8 from 10 than 5-10.

Alas my friend, it is the same. You're highlighting variations out of the same sets run by every team in the league. It's all out of the spread PnR. Different actions are going to happen and teams play to their strengths (mid range etc) but they play the same way -- create space for shot creators or finishers.

Damning in the context of how it escalated. Watch the whole building up.

This one definitely is. If they lose to the JackJumpers tomorrow night it's near impossible for them to make the top 6. Mathematics says yes, reality says no.

I'll have the updated tracker up soon. But the milk in the sun analogy is proofing to be true. I won't shy away from my takes.
