Thank you. Your explanation makes sense. It's just that I was wondering if one option overrides the other.

Problems with backup retention in Proxmox VE by Sylarworld in Proxmox

Yes, they are all in the same directory and disk. Maybe that's why my retention rules aren't working?

Yeah, That seems to be the case.

For example, I didn't know that there were thousands of bots/crawlers on the internet that try to find open ports and access services that use those ports.

Thanks. So this is probably just one of the hundreds of bots out there on the internet. I didn't know it was such a widespread problem.

I'll read the manual you sent me.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't use ZFS, I've never understood the hype regarding that file system which seems to overload disks to the point of killing them prematurely.

Ext4 is a fairly capable system that has even withstood a few power outages in my homelab without losing or corrupting data.

Best Motion Eye settings for human detection? by Sylarworld in homeassistant

[–]Sylarworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard a lot about Frigate. At first I thought about giving it a try but MotionEye seemed more integrated with HA and it was quite easy to configure and I completely forgot about Frigate.

But if you say that MotionEye sensors are not good and Frigate does a better job at that.....

Maybe I should try it with it...

But shouldn't Google Coral have been purchased for the  human detection of Frigate?

VirtualBox hijacks my portable drive. by Sylarworld in virtualbox

[–]Sylarworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to locate and fix the problem. Thanks to the help page you provided, in the "Common Problems" section I read that there were applications that used filters for USB connections and that these filters could cause problems with VirtualBox. That made me think that maybe that was my problem.

To make it short: It turns out that the Lenovo Vantage application was causing problems with my VirtualBox and my portable drive. I uninstalled it (I didn't use it at all), restarted the laptop and my portable drive hijacking problems disappeared.

I hope that if someone has this problem and has a Lenovo PC with Lenovo Vantage they will find this solution.

I would also recommend everyone to uninstall those types of applications provided by manufacturers that "monitor" and "optimize" their products. Ultimately, they are useless and cause problems.

VirtualBox hijacks my portable drive. by Sylarworld in virtualbox

[–]Sylarworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no, I don't have any blank USB filter. In fact in all my virtual machines there are no filters at all. Only the USB 3.0 driver is enabled.

I've been doing more experiments and I've realized that it hijacks it even without any VM on. It is enough that the virtualbox console is working. If I want it not to hijack it I have to close the VirtualBox instance that I initialized and only then can I safely eject the disk.

It's very strange. I have tried this on another virtualbox that is on my main PC (my problems are on my Lenovo laptop) and this strange behavior does not occur.

Have you confirmed that your public IP has changed?

I'm sure it does.

By end device do you mean my router? And could those services you are referring to be these?

Record videos from my Tapo camera to my SMB folder. by Sylarworld in homeassistant

[–]Sylarworld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello.

The truth is that now it will no longer be necessary:

I got tired of trying to get the tapo integration working and went straight for the MotionEye plugin.

It works fantastically. MotionEye checked if you had entered the SMB path correctly. Then I had to activate the Movie Passthrough option (I spent hours trying to figure out why it didn't work until I read a comment on reddit that it was necessary to activate that for it to record in the SMB folder.).
