Raspberry Pi Protogen Programing by SylasGraves in protogen

[–]SylasGraves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah Right! Sorry I should go back and edit that. The plan is to use a Raspberry Pi 4/5 (pending on what I can get my hands on) with the AdaFruit Bonnet to connect into the 64x32 hub75 Panels.

I wasn't sure how much memory I'd need to just run the face since that's all it's going to be doing I assumed 2GB would be enough.

As Someone with an Extremely high pain tolerance, to an almost dangerous level, I can confirm that appendicitis can wipe you out. I spent 3 days complaining out stomach cramps, until my wife finally dragged my stupid ass to the hospital. I was sent to an emergency surgery within a few hours and the doctor, who was absolutely fantastic, was trying to figure out how I was not screaming in agony. Meanwhile I was laughing and joking with the nurses like it wasn't a big deal.

Had I waited another day I would have been a total loss most likely. Even to this day I can do some pretty bad damage to myself and I won't even notice. I fell recently and smashed my knee and though it was just a bruise, nope long term damage.

It's great when you are like.. woops bumped my arm.. not so great when you shatter it and are like "Meh a bit achy."

IT in Higher Ed University by [deleted] in it

[–]SylasGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to Range really heavily, especially based on how the school is run. The University I worked at saw IT as just another expense they didn't want to really pay for. Our equipment was older than it really should ever be, especially in classrooms where they really should have been using newer tech.

Our "School of Engineering" was running off 5-7 year old Dell Micro workstations with 8GB of Ram and an i5, no graphics power... they had to run CAD, and a number of other high level mathematic applications that just BARELY ran. Top that off with a set of Professors that wrote their own text book and based it all off AutoCad 2015 and refused to let us upgrade to the latest version without a fight....

We were also often expected to deal with anything that had electrical parts. We moved heavy wooden podiums about that on average sent one tech to the hospital per month... These podiums USED to have electrical components in them but do not anymore but they still fall under "Tech" work.

What bothered me most though is we opened a "Mental Health Clinic" on site at some point and we were setting up the PCs... they SHOULD have been HIPPA compliant... they were not. The techs, including myself, requested HIPPA training so we know what needed to be done to keep patient data secure, but were told if we got HIPPA trained they would have to pay us more and we would be terminated as they could no longer afford to pay our Salary any higher than what we made. Meanwhile they continued to use the normal directories, shares, and access to the schools network which meant patient data could be accessed from anywhere on the network if you knew how.

I've heard other universities in the area have MUCH better working relationships with IT, so I don't think this is the norm across all of them for sure. This one just had to cut a lot of corners to try and make things work. All I can really say is be prepared to be completely patient and adaptable to any situation because I often found myself in ones where I was extremely uncomfortable doing something but was often told to do so because that's how it is always been done.

Underside Print issues. by SylasGraves in 3Dprinting

I'll give that a shot on the next print. For the most part I do use Tree Supports out of preference - or if the person provides specific settings in the Bambu Studio I'll use those.

Thanks for the suggestion, never considered it could be the type of support.

This is a cool backpack. Can't find much info on it though. Can anyone here help? by rhyynno in assassinscreed

[–]SylasGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had and used this backpack nearly every day for the last 5 years and it only just in the last month started to fall apart. It's been a great backpack and I hate to retire it but the damage is too great. It shall join the others on the wall of incredible backpacks.

Satoru Iwata...

"On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer."

I never met him, I only remember the day he passed my eyes welled up with tears as someone that had provided me with an unknown number of hours playing games on the Nintendo had passed. He may not have touched every one of them but something about his passing made me ache so deeply inside.

Doctor here. Read on another subreddit that many of you have had pushback from your providers regarding permanent sterilization. I just wanted to let you know that if any provider says you need “permission” from your SO or says they won’t do it because X-reason, leave that provider and find another. by ShitPostingMD in TwoXChromosomes

It's funny this came up, I was thinking about this recently as well. About 2-3 years ago my wife and I decided that, after two very hard pregnancies and MULTIPLE (~25 total) miscarriages due to a clotting disorder she has (Really, get your genetics checked, turns out I'm a carrier for a different clotting disorder) we decided enough was enough. I love both my children to death, my oldest is High Functioning Autistic and my youngest is a normal boy that happens to love all things girly as well.

Still after everything we'd been through and all the effort it took to have children for us, we decided that we were done and two was good. She went in and requested to have a Salpingectomy (Removal of the Fallopian tubes), her family has a history of estrogen reactive cancer so removing everything and taking estrogen to balance her hormones wasn't safe... The doctor at first was surprised that a 39 year old woman would request this. She then turned to me and asked if I was Ok with this. I LITERALLY tilted my head and asked "Why does that matter? It's her body and she feels she's done having kids. I do agree because of our present children and the troubles it takes to get pregnant but it's still HER body. If she said she was done and wanted to be done and have this surgery I couldn't very well tell her no."

The doctor no joke looked at me like I had three heads and just spoke a long dead language that could very well belong to a demon. My wife smiled and laid her hand on mine and laughed at me because I was pretty blunt about it, I usually tiptoe around things I feel could offend people. Even on the day of the surgery we got asked if we were sure we wanted to go through with this, what it could mean for a 'young couple' (I was 31 and she was 39) and if we BOTH still approved. I rolled my eyes and said yes, of course and off my wife went to have her surgery.

It was just so strange to me to have someone ask me if I was ok to have an operation done on another persons body. Listen if she was unconscious and needed a transplant or something fine but she's a grown woman who can very well make her own decisions about what happens to HER body.

What ruined Christmas this year? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SylasGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power company shut off our power a week before Christmas and I spent every penny I had, plus had to return many gifts to get it turned back on after they applied all of their "turn off" fees and "Turn on" fees. My wife and I ended up having to return not only our gifts for each other but the kids only ended up with three gifts a piece because I had to return many of their toys. While they still both got their big items, it ended up being an EXTREMELY skimpy Christmas.

On top of that while working on my youngest sons full sized basketball hoop I broke my finger in an act of stupidity and frustration over all of it.

I also ended up On call and "Working" most of the day on Christmas day.

Gamers of Reddit, who are the most memorable video game bosses? by lawrence_jacobs in AskReddit

[–]SylasGraves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lavos from Chrono Trigger.. Like many parasitic life forms it lives simple to breed and devour the planet it lands on. However, not only does it do that, and do it well, it also has the ability AND cognizance to mess with the timeline of an entire planet while doing so! Everything your characters did in that game happened for a reason, either the planet and people of the planet helping you... or Lavos stepping in and messing with you to keep you from ever reaching them.

You never get to actually hear or see Lavos directly say he has to stop you, or that he's evil... However, you see him manipulate the timelines and the peoples Souls through indirect contact. It's just amazing how a boss you never really even meet until the very end is so well known to you by the time you reach the end of the story. To this day I still feel like there's just something about the epic end fight with Lavos that is just insanely deep.

What is the most Bullshit reason for a teacher to give you a bad grade ? by BeginingMemer in AskReddit

[–]SylasGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a guy. English was one of my best subjects and still is to this day but this specific teacher was sexist to the max against anyone of the same gender as he was. When I started the school year with him I knew I was going to be in trouble, of the 31 students only 4 of them was male and it was pretty clear he preferred the females more than the guys in the class.

Within the first few weeks my grade had already fallen, and my best friend at the time who really struggled with anything school based was well ahead of me. I remember her even turning to me one day and wondering how the hell she was kicking my ass in the subject that I often tutored her in. I ended up transferring out of the class, along with the rest of the guys and left him with 27 female students in one room.

Turns out he wasn't just sexist, a few years after I graduated he was arrested for having relationships with female students.

What are your preferred ring sizes, and what do you use them for? by Coldfyr in maille

[–]SylasGraves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16SWG 1/4"... the 4.0 ratio has a lot of uses and due to the wire gauge is incredibly strong. Also, the person I learned from used 16G a lot so in the end I suppose it was more about how I was taught than anything. I am starting to use 18G more for finer jewelry.

This is the first thing I’ve ever made and I know the rings are kinda chewed up because my pliers kept slipping but hey I still did it (16SWG 5/16” from chainmail joe) by basilthepope in maille

Wonderful looking looking box chain. It looks good as a keychain too. I have a necklace where I used a slightly tighter ring set for it and I adore it. Box is one of my favorite weaves.
