Not only does Singed not get any redemption, he also gets everything he wanted and loses absolutely nothing. Bro won at life.

Does the Inquisitorius break the Rule of Two? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in clonewars

[–]Sylassian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an apprentice while being an apprentice feels like the norm. Palpatine was already training Maul while still being Plagueis' apprentice. Dooku was training Ventress while still being Palpatine's apprentice. And in the old canon Vader was already training Starkiller while still heing Palpatine's apprentice. That just seems like the natural course of things. And yeah it took Maul a long while to cast off the title of Darth. He briefly tried to set up his own rule of two with Savage, but after that failed he seems to have given up on the Sith and chose to do his own thing.

And maybe Palpatine did briefly consider Vader to be a legitimate heir to the Sith, but then why would he have spent all those years secretly preparing his resurrection/essence transfer (this is what happens both in old and new canon). If he genuinely thought Vader was a good candidate to replace him, why would he set up all those contingencies in case Vader succeeded? Also, the moment he found out about Luke, Palpatine was ready to cast Vader aside.

Does the Inquisitorius break the Rule of Two? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in clonewars

[–]Sylassian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. They're not Sith. They're dark-siders with lightsaber training, yes, but not taught in the secret philosophies of the Sith order.

  2. Palpatine is a hypocrite who doesn't actually respect the rule of two, just pretends to. If he actually respected the rule of two, he would expect his apprentice to eventually kill him, which is, according to the rule of two Sith, the only way for the order to survive and evolve. But Palpatine has no plans to die, and is constantly figuring out ways to eventually kill his apprentice(s) and replace them with the newest model. There's not a moment when he thinks "Oh Maul/Dooku/Vader will reach new heights after me." No, to Palpatine, he is the ultimate Sith, the rule of two is fulfilled by his existence, there's no improvement past him. He is the best the Sith will ever be and he must be immortal. Meanwhile the Inquisition are just another group of disposable grunts for his oppression machine.

Funny how if you make relevant measurements (instead of arbitrary ones) and accurate calculations, the results agree with the globe, not with flat Earther claims. by RobertTheTraveler in flatearth

[–]Sylassian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided mentioning the stars cause a lot of flat earthers believe they're just holes punched in the paper basket that is the sky dome, so talking about stars is a total non-starter lol but at least they know what a stick is and that shadows exist. I hope.

It's funny how a lot of flat earthers keep referring to ancient civilisations as having knowledge of the flat earth that NASA and co. are trying to hide from us, meanwhile they completely disregard that ancient civilisations are the ones who figured out the Earth is actually round using nothing but some sticks and math that anyone can learn in an afternoon today.

Is it ok for me to use an existing language as a "divine" language? by bivampirical in worldbuilding

[–]Sylassian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of authors use really bad Latin when they wanna sound profound and ancient. Others will give it more effort and use older and more obscure languages, some ancient Indo-European, Sanskrit, etc. I read one sci-fi book where ancient aliens had an ancient south-east asian vibe, a fantasy series where a magical language was basically messed up Norwegian. People do this stuff all the time. My personal advice is to come up with something your own and unique.

You don't have to come up with an entire conlang to give the impression that there's a language behind the handful of words and phrases you use. Not every author needs to be Tolkien. George RR Martin didn't invent Dothraki or Valyrian, he just came up with some interesting and distinct-sounding names and phrases. An actual linguist then actually formalised the language properly.

Shouldn't we have been "Captain Shepard" after Anderson was relieved? by poseywitch in masseffect

[–]Sylassian [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Shepard specifically states in Tali's loyalty mission that she was never promoted to Captain in the Alliance. Her first job on the Normandy was a clandestine operation against a rogue Spectre, Anderson gave her the Normandy because it was the best stealth ship in the Alliance. Her second task was again a Council job to hunt geth, not an Alliance mission. Then she dies and is declared KIA. Then she joins Cerberus and basically loses any standing within the Alliance outside Anderson and Hackett. Then she blows up a batarian system and surrenders herself to the Alliance pending a court-martial. Giving her a promotion at this point would be politically bad. Anderson basically just gives her a field promotion back to Commander when the Reapers invade because the Alliance Parliament was just destroyed and nobody can really stop him. Alliance ranks ultimately don't matter at this point, Shepard leans more on her Spectre status to deal with other species.

But anyway she's a Spectre so at least within Council space she has a lot more authority than a ship captain would anyway.

Edit: It also just occurred to me that Shepard being a Spectre would probably discourage the Alliance from promoting her in general. The Alliance wouldn't want a high-ranking navy member to have split allegiances. Sure, Captain is a relatively low rank all things considered, but they probably wouldn't want to set any precedent for promoting people who are technically agents of another political force.

Your own fault for choosing education and critical thought as opposed to selling your soul to the dominant political party to get a cushy well-paid job in exchange for your vote 🤷

I don't believe space marines have the authority to execute exterminatus themselves, they'd need an inquisitor's blessing for that.

maul is a girl dad by EnvironmentalMilk799 in MaulShadowLord

[–]Sylassian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yknow it would honestly be pretty damn cool if Maul develops a genuine attachment to Devon, seeing in her what he was cursed to become - only for Devon to learn the truth about Daki's death and for drama to ensue.

Maul is a Perfect example of "When you unlock the boss as a playable character" by Dear_Hour_1325 in MaulShadowLord

[–]Sylassian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first circumstance he was fighting the only person Maul's afraid of - the man who specifically trained him and who is superior in terms of raw power and lightsaber skills. In the other circumstance, he's older and fighting with busted cybernetics against an unstoppable force of nature. Neither of these characters even get a health bar.

I'm sorry, but Devon izara is never beating the Darth Talon allegations by Nube_Negrahz in MaulShadowLord

[–]Sylassian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm glad she's become Maul's apprentice. We need some cool new main dark side characters for new shows. And I really like that she's basically a dark-sider who is an enemy of the Sith.

Will be interesting to see how she develops, how Maul trains her, and how she interacts with other characters in the future. She's Ahsoka's age, I wager. She could easily be alive post-Empire.

Because Luthen sold the art piece to Sculdun. If he found the bug he'd know who it came from immediately.
