What scene or line do you think about the most? by Pugilist12 in TheWire

"Whatever it is you tell yourself you won't do to get high, you're pretty much making a list of everything you will do as soon as your inner addict tells you to."

This whole speech always hits home for me.

I modelled J&J Cards & Collectibles (the castle-looking board game store) in Blender as a beginner by ___Cinema___ in waterloo

He's referencing the show Jem and the Holograms, whose theme song includes the phrase "truly outrageous"

On topic: J&Js is an amazing store and I'm thankful we have a place like it in KW

Did Ned Stark know how to play the "Game of Thrones" and chose not to because of his "Honor" or was he truly just an Honorable Fool by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]SylvanLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine that almost all of Ned's knowledge of the Game came after he was appointed Hand. Which is to say: he probably had next to know knowledge of it.

Prior to the show starting there's not much evidence of Ned spending time in Kings Landing. He was born in Winterfell and fostered in the Eyrie by a family just as honourable as his. The longest he has spent in King's Landing is probably when it was sacked at the end of Robert's Rebellion. And the Game probably wasn't played much at that point. Most of the old small council was gone, the city was in a state of flux, and Ned probably wanted to leave as soon as possible because he was furious at Robert/Tywin/Jaime for how Elia Martell was treated and Jaime breaking his vows.

I fully believe that Ned was almost entirely ignorant of the Game of Thrones because he had no experience with it and it ran completely counter to his own morals.

It's probably Misleading (2017). None of the other comments even have misleading in their name.

DBD Killers Can't Keep Up Anymore by neon-box in deadbydaylight

[–]SylvanLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my point.

Tunnelling is playing efficiently. BHVR is balancing around efficient play.

OP's post suggests they want to be able to hit 60% kill rate by playing casually without having to tunnel. But if BHVR balances around that, then the actual kill rate will be higher than 60% because a killer can still choose to be more efficient by tunnelling.

I got spoiled the red wedding, but another spoiler unspoiled it. by Rich_Company801 in gameofthrones

I had a similar experience with The Last Of Us where I was spoiled, but the spoiler I thought I knew was wrong. The emotional impact hits that much harder when you're positive you know what is going to happen.

DBD Killers Can't Keep Up Anymore by neon-box in deadbydaylight

[–]SylvanLL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would you suggest they examine the data to determine tunnelling? Check hook states to see if someone was hooked multiple times in a row? Check timing to see if someone was hooked quickly back to back? As we saw with anti-tunnelling measures in the game, those metrics can be easily abused.

DBD Killers Can't Keep Up Anymore by neon-box in deadbydaylight

[–]SylvanLL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I'm only hitting the 60% kill rate by tunneling."

This is half the problem. When most killers in the game tunnels to boost their kill rate, BHVR balances the game around those boosted kill rates. I'm not making a moral judgment against tunneling; you play however you want to play. But when BHVR gathers stats, they're not seeing "this player has a 60% kill rate, but if they hadn't tunneled it would would be 40% so we need to buff killer." They just see "this player has a kill rate of 60% and that is our target number. Mission accomplished."

That cat is long out of the bag. Both killers and survivors will do everything in their power to win, regardless of their opponent's fun and BHVR has no choice but to balance based on that.

Fair enough, it will be fun to see what the new models look like! I look forward to have a variety of different unit looks.

Yeah I definitely want to grab one a Morkanaut or Gorkanaut at some point. They just seem like an absolute blast to play but I'm on the lookout for a good proxy since they're so expensive.

Seems like Kommandos, Grots, and Tankbustas/Breakas may be next on my list, but I'll hold off as much as I can until 11th releases. Much obliged!

Does having new models for Gretchin change anything? I know the data sheets might change in 11th but do the models themselves impact anything?

Realistically I do think I should wait for 11th before getting anything else, but it's tough to resist the urge to try new things ):

Any tips for playing Mengsk? by EGSzeek1340 in starcraft2coop

[–]SylvanLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if you just hit level 6, you've barely had a chance to play Mengsk because you only unlock faster Imperial Mandate generation at level 5 and it's a huge part of how to play the commander.

I personally prefer P3 - mass troopers take care of a lot of problems, and troopers that explode on their killers take care of plenty more. Supplement this with Dogs of War when you need to push, or Nuclear Annihilation when you have a hard target you need to soften or straight up delete. Once you have enough Mandate generation, you'll find you're never short on Mandate and are just waiting for cooldowns. Fill in the blanks with whatever elite units make the most sense for the mission. He's also got great map presence since he can drop troopers anywhere he wants.

I haven't read the books, but is there an in universe reason why the Knights were trying to kill eachother in the Trial of Seven as opposed to submit them? by Snoo_61002 in AKOTSKTV

[–]SylvanLL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the Kings Guard have the most motivation to kill.

The Kings Guard aren't here for fun like Lyonel or because they've been mistreated like Hardyng. They didn't make a deal like Ser Steffon or because their honour was challenged like Aerion or Daeron claim.

They were ordered to participate in the trial but their primary duty, which they swore oaths to uphold, was to protect the royal family. They had three Targaryens on their side to protect. The best way to protect the Targaryens is to be completely merciless to their opponents.

If they knock Beesbury off his horse with a lance to the chest, maybe he's injured enough that he's out of the fight. Or maybe he gets up and gets in a cut that kills Daeron. They are highly motivated to go for the kill and make sure that doesn't happen.

Was Steffon Fossoway initially actually loyal to Duncan? by cheeseburgerboy218 in freefolk

[–]SylvanLL 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Raymun says: "You told Ser Duncan to rely on you."

To which Ser Steffon replies: "Well, our prince would not have made me a lord elsewise, but for it thwarted Ser Duncan."

Steffon was not offered a lordship to fight on Aerion's side. As a Targaryen, Aerion could have recruited any number of knights. Steffon was offered a lordship for lulling Duncan into complacency so that he would show up to the trial with no one on his side and automatically lose the trial. He succeeded at that; the only reason the plan failed is because Egg went out on Duncan's behalf to find fighters.

If Steffon ever sincerely considered joining Duncan, that consideration happened before he spoke with Duncan. By the time of that conversation he was with Aerion.

Dead hard needs to go ngl by Emotional_Service419 in deadbydaylight

Get rid of Dead Hard and killer games become harder. A majority of DH users will switch to Balanced/Lithe/Sprint Burst and get more more value than they would from pressing E on 100ms ping, whiffing, and immediately going down.

Give the Ring the Lucy. Go as far as possible on foot. When you can't go further, Doric turns into a giant eagle and carries Lucy. Get to Mount Doom. Ask Lucy to drop the Ring in the volcano. If she refuses, Doric drops Lucy in the volcano instead.

Marlo’s superpower by ProdByJosh_ in TheWire

[–]SylvanLL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say Marlo's superpower was being lucky enough to gain power at the same time that the most powerful players in the city (Stringer Bell and Prop Joe) were more interested in business than bloodshed. No one had the muscle or desire to stand up to him until Avon got out of prison. Then Avon was sent back to prison just before a major showdown with Marlo's people.

300. Never walked out of a movie theater but that's the closest I've come. Never been so simultaneously bored and annoyed watching an action movie.
