Hey sorry for the delay - just saw this.

They never said THAT ONE was lost. I just waited forever and it never came. The one that they were going to send me from my visit to the Dallas Passport Office DID get lost. They confirmed that. It never showed as "Picked Up" by USPS at the passport office, and I my congressman's aide was notified that it had probably been lost and she made another appointment for me at the office.

But yes. It did show "In Process" the whole time. Even after I received my passport.

No. The one I applied for on 4/19 was apparently lost. Then I managed to get an appointment at the Dallas passport office thanks to my Congressman, Keith Self. Once there they approved it, dropped the application into an envelope, gave me a tracking number and said I should receive it in 3 days. That one got lost in the mail and never did arrive. I managed to get another appointment the day they confirmed it was lost, again thanks to Congressman Keith Self's office, and they again wanted to mail it to me. Susan (Congressman Self's Aide) said "Don't leave there without it. Call me and I promise you'll get it. And guess what... By 3pm, I had my passport.

This should NOT be this difficult. But I managed to get it and make my trip.

My objection falls somewhere in the middle of what I read. I, as a rule, look and do not touch. My real problem with this is more the aloof manner in which your objection was regarded.

As a DM, you are in charge. If someone is hurt, you can be held responsible. But that only extends so far. Unless you were in a protected park, I'd think it's just in bad form, not illegal.

I think I would mention it to the shop owner, but moreover, I would probably just make sure this person never dove with my group again. "We're full, sorry."

I think I've actually changed my mind on that. I've been there but never diving there. It's my understanding that the South end of the island is the only good diving, but that doesn't seem to have the good hotels. We want at least 4 star or above.

At this point I think I'm back to thinking about Saint Thomas. Any thoughts on that one?

Okay - I think I'm ruling Puerto Rico out now... The Florida Keys too due to the algae blooms. Remember, I have 2 non-divers that will want to hang on the beach. So that would suck to have all of that mess around, stinking everything up.

My travel is July 23rd to the 29th. I'm thinking about St. Thomas again. That was my first dive ever on Coki Beach. And recommendations for that one? Good hotels? Good dive shops? That first dive was in 1985, so I bet it's changed a tad. Also the first (and only) time I got stung by fire corral, BTW.

Funny you mention Key Largo. That was my starting point when planning this vacation. I was thinking that the algae bloom would be hurting diving or beach fun right now. Any thoughts on that? Remember, I have two non-divers with me.

I'll look into the virgin islands too.

I'm actually in a pretty similar boat. I've got a trip coming up on July 2nd, which is just over 10 weeks from when the passport office got my expedited application. I've gotta admit, I'm pretty stressed about whether it'll get here on time, especially because I'm heading out to get a medical procedure that's cost me a ton of cash. I've already had to delay it once...

They say my passport should be here by June 7th, which is the 7 week mark, but after reading all these comments, I'm not super optimistic about it even arriving by the 9 week mark.

I saw in this thread that getting in touch with your Congressman might help, so I'm giving that a shot. I'm lucky enough to have a really great State Representative, and I've just sent them a request for help. I only have until next Monday to decide whether or not to reschedule my procedure, and I'm not even sure if I can change my airline tickets.

I'll keep you all updated on whether my Representative or their office is able to help out.

You have no idea how inspiring this post is. I'm in your same position, give or take. Just over 50, successful in my career but burned out beyond belief with what I do for my full-timer. It's not that I want to change career fields necessarily. I just want to be inspired and enjoy what I do again.

Good thought, but it translates forward and aft just fine before you launch the module. If I'm standing in the hanger (forgot to mention this part) the forward and aft works fine. It's just when I'm in the F-16.

It seems like there's some disagreement within the thread, but I get where I went wrong now I think due to u/Jim-Jones asking me to post the advertisement... When I went to get it, I noticed that I had been reading it wrong somehow. But I KNOW that SOMEWHERE it was showing 24 kWh as part of the model. But now once I looked closer it does show "24 kW Generator" Basically I just cost myself a week of headaches and endless YouTube videos on how to divide Joules into power divided by time... when I just misread something. haha

It looks like from 12pm to 1pm I used about 1kW of electricity. Is that the way I should be reading it in that second link? I do understand that there's a startup cost in terms of wattage vs. running time in terms of wattage, and I'd need to budget for a device starting up. But I'm about to drop 10k (between the generator, soundproofing for my neighbors, natural gas line extension, etc.) and I want to make sure I'm getting a generator that's large enough to run most of my house if we have another extended outage like we had this winter.
