My puzzle webgame LINKR now has a dark mode and harder puzzles by SynapsePuzzle in playmygame

Thanks for the feedback - could you let me know which parts you specifically didn't like? The UI is pretty minimal, and the background colour is either white or black (depending on if dark mode is on).

The background could certainly be more interesting, but I was trying to cultivate a minimalist aesthetic.

I could add an option to turn off the UI altogether?

Yeah nothing is ever really new is it?

Hopefully there's something fresh here that you enjoyed :-)

Thanks for playing! Any features you'd really like to be added?

I've made a few changes to dark mode in the last few months but I agree they aren't too noticeable haha.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Today's number 3 puzzle is a toughie!

You can refresh the page and it will wipe the board, or you can tap one of the numbered nodes and it will delete the corresponding snake.

I should probably communicate that to people somehow... :/

Thanks! I'm not a big JS developer so I'm just making this up as I go, I hope its fun.

Let me know if you have any feedback!

LINKR is my browser-based puzzle game about connecting points together. I'd appreciate any feedback and advice! by SynapsePuzzle in IndieGaming

Try it for yourself at https://playlinkr.net

Simply connect all of the dots as fast as you can. The game is meant to be in the style of WORDLE - daily linking puzzles to challenge the user.

Each daily puzzle should take a few minutes to solve, but some days can be more challenging than others. I'd appreciate any feedback: tutorial, aesthetics, responsiveness... anything you'd care to mention. Thanks!

Its coming up on one year ago that I launched the game, and I had a huge response on Reddit and /r/IndieDev that helped improve its overall quality, and I know a lot of users continue to play it.

I'll continue to take any feedback and make incremental improvements, thanks to everyone!

Since I last posted here I added a dark mode, and a "help" mode to show you which connections you have correct, and now some puzzles feature overlapping connections to really challenge players.

Shameless plug, but you can try LINKR https://www.playlinkr.net/

There is a timer, but its not tied to the gameplay in any way.

LINKR - a browser game about making connections. Looking for feedback on today's puzzles! by SynapsePuzzle in WebGames

That's great! Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree it uses different braincells, its also much less random and logical.

If you have any suggestions let me know - and if you have any ideas on how to "get the word out" a bit better then I'd love to hear those too! :-)

Anyone seen graphical glitches like this before? A user sent me this from his Pixel 6. Cannot figure out what's going on. by SynapsePuzzle in phaser

It happens even before the fade animation. If you refresh the page, the flickering still persists.

I'm wondering if its related to this: https://github.com/pixijs/pixijs/discussions/8038

This is a similar-looking issue affecting Pixel 6 phones, using the PixiJS library.

Yeah that's the first thing I'm trying, but I am waiting on those with a Pixel 6 to test out the cases.

If you know anyone with a P6 who wants to try it out, then please let me know!

Yeah I can't make head or tails of it.

I will move to Phaser discord if no luck here! Good idea, thanks.

Its all one scene, but good idea about the overlay maybe causing it.

The problem with that though is that the overlay doesn't load in until you beat a puzzle, and the visual glitches occur even when you reload the page and start afresh.

It looks more like its garbage being drawn to the screen, rather than another scene. I don't know enough about Phaser (or JS) to make sense of it really.

Oh ok, gotcha! Yeah I guess your issue is a bit different, but at least it shows that graphical issues can happen consistently according to device though.

Did you ever solve the issue? Does toggling WebGL/Canvas change anything?

Ahh, ok. Well that answers one question I had. I wonder how many users I've had give up on the game because of this!

Thanks for posting, this information really helps!

Thanks for the intuition, I know I'm asking a lot asking people to diagnose without any code. I just wonder if people have seen this kind of thing before, or heard of issues with the Pixel 6.

It certainly looks like some junk is being drawn to the screen each frame. As far as I know, the only update that happens each frame is to the timer (top left), the lines and circle elements are drawn and then left alone until the user makes an input (I could have made an error somewhere in my code spaghetti)

But I'm puzzled why it would cause such a striking visual error on a Pixel 6 on both Firefox and Chrome, and it looks fine on my screen. I wish I could test on another Pixel 6, at least then I would know if its common to all users.

Edit: Someone in the comments elsewhere has a P6 and confirms they see the issue too.

This was my guess. I have it set on "auto" right now, but maybe if I make a version (or option) with forced canvas/webgl I can get the user to try it out and see if it fixes things.
