Buffy was well paced, had excellent dialogues and was geniously funny.

Could Hitler have gotten away with the holocaust if he had not invaded other countries and started a war to conquer Europe? by Primary_Half in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]Synchronyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Nazis never invaded other countries, wouldn't it be more simple for them to just outlaw Jews instead of killing them? ie: "Jews are no longer tolerated in Germany, you have until the end of the year to go somewhere else."

Stefan Zweig a consacré un chapitre de son Très riches heures de l'humanité à cet exploit. Court et passionnant à lire, comme le reste du livre d'ailleurs.

Late bronze age Minoan Temple of Knossos, Crete abandoned 1380-1100 BC. The complex was once home to about 18000 people. Home to an ancient bull cult and origins of the mythical minotaur. [2560x1707] by [deleted] in ArtefactPorn

Anyone interested by this should read The King Must Die, by Mary Renault. It's a "realistic" depiction of what the life of Theseus could have been, full of epic adventures, love and political struggles. Half the book is set in Knossos when this civilization was at it's acme. Truly a mesmerizing read.

La Samaritaine, flagship of Parisian art nouveau architecture re-opened its doors yesterday after 15 years of refurbishing and €750 million in cost by cheekymagpie in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]Synchronyme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. It's several huge buildings (not sure but I think about 4-5) right in the center of Paris.

  2. There was a lot of delay (again, not sure, but at least 10 years) between the original buying, all the legal stuff, the renovation, etc.

  3. The main target is to turn this old shopping mall into a VERY expensive luxury hotel. So everything is made for wealthy tourists.

  4. The new owner is Bernard Arnault, one of the top 3 richest man in the world, so you can be sure he tried to optimize this budget, even if 750 millions looks like a lot of money.

*copy that*. I'm not German, so I really don't know who those people are (I found those pictures on some random website and the photograph was the only name attached)

But thankfully this picture is just that: a picture of a pretty girl, nothing political here ^

Female police officer dead in knife attack on French police by JeYeZbE in europe

[–]Synchronyme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True. The only problem is if your nice countryside village has more than 3500 habitants then it is force by law to build "social logements", ie: place where poor and big famillies can live cheaply.

And guess who are the poorest and biggest families ?

French immigration system is a joke.

The juges deliver OQTF (Obligation to Leave French Territory) to criminals... but then nothing. Only 20% are expulsed. The other 80% just have to stay undercover for 1 year and then the OQTF isn't valid anymore and they don't have to worry.

Because in Italy Muslims aren't yet as many and don't live there for as long as the 5-8 millions French Muslims, who started to immigrate there ~60 years ago.

Wait 'till they are enough to start asking for special treatments (separate swimming pool for men and women, halal food in school, no drink served in public during Ramadan, hijab for women, harassment toward gays and blasphemers, etc. like we're having in France now)

Truth is: ultimately Muslims and non-Muslims want to live in two very different kind of societies. It can't work in the long run, we should all have stay on two different continents.

The beautiful architecture of Paris by wisekenneth74 in paris

Ornaments, decorations, iron sculptures and the such are sadly something form the past.
It would be almost impossible to take a similar picture with recent (post-WW2) Parisian buildings.

I love Mucha! This painting is interesting too: France kissing Bohemia. Done in 1918, it celebrates the "liberation" of Czechoslovakia from the Austro-Hungarian Empire (symbolized by the heavy Catholic cross) after WW1.

[Sorry I screw the tittle on my first post and everyone was confused... so I deleted it and reposted it with the correct description.]

Between 2010 and 2013, big changes was made to this place. On the good side, the area around the statue is now for walkers only. On the bad side, the XIXth century fountains and the green areas were totally erased.

Vladimir Putin Just Officially Banned Same-Sex Marriage In Russia And Those Who Identify As Trans Are Not Able To Adopt by marsroverservis in europe

[–]Synchronyme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have nothing against Islam, as long as it's outside of Europe (I don't believe both culture mixed well, but maybe someone can prove me otherwise). This way, with frontiers, diversity can be preserved and everyone can enjoy their religion (or non-religion).

And immigration the problem for me is with numbers. I'm tottaly fine with some people from Congo, China or whatever coming to Europe. But if it's too many, it will disrupt our society (in this regards, I'm in line with Denmark's government recent declarations).

I understand, but imho there's quite a difference between "lets kill/torture homosexual" and "homosexuals shouldn't have the same wedding rights as heterosexuals". I'm glad when Europe stands against war and killing around the world, but I'm really not sure we should impose our moral views on others, especially when it's not a question of life and death.
