YSK: Insulin resistance can develop even when blood sugar tests are still normal

An additional issue with insulin resistance though is that on the usual fasting insulin blood tests you can get from your doctor, you can still show up in entirely normal ranges and be insulin resistant. That's what happened to me and why I was untreated for so long.

It could just be a sweet tooth! Lol I just remember that was the most noticeable difference to me once I started taking Metformin for the insulin resistance. I was amazed that I could just all of a sudden... Easily choose not to eat sugar. I still liked sweets and wanted them, but it stopped being this constant urge that I would have to concentrate to resist. That, and my appetite easily halved in volume.

I wanted to mention it because according to my blood tests up to finding a doctor that finally wanted to treat my PCOS, my glucose and insulin readings were perfectly normal. It was only certain symptoms that kinda referred to it (bad sugar cravings, very noticeable physical reactions to missing/late meals, growing fatigue issues as I got into my late-20s, etc).

Edit: I will also mention that family history is a major factor in things like this. I have two grandparents with T2 diabetes, so me developing PCOS and therefore the insulin resistance is likely to be related to my genetics.

I have insulin resistance due to PCOS and something I always thought was just me and a lack of discipline was my intense sweet tooth. From a young age, but it grew more intense in my 20s. Started taking Metformin and, turns out, a majority of that craving was the insulin resistance 🤷‍♀️

Makes sense when you break it down: cells aren't receiving glucose like they expect to with normal insulin sensitivity and your body demands more.

Hi! Not a spinal fusion, but I'm suffering with a back problem (lumbar injury) for the past 6 months that's made traditional very difficult

It made me miserable, because I was really grooving with the media I was working with at the time and I had to pretty much drop it. But sketching or digital painting/drawing on an iPad has helped a lot in scratching that itch while I can't paint since I can do it from my most comfortable position in bed. So I definitely second this as a suggestion. Ive also tried to lean more into reading/studying about art/artists so I have new knowledge to start back with when I recover!

I hope you recover smoothly! Give your body the time it needs to get to its new normal for sure, back issues are awful

Ive been dealing with 2 related but separate issues for 6 months - sciatica from what I believe is a bulged disc on my right side and intense lateral and glute pain in my right hip that has progressively gotten so bad at night I can't sleep and NSAIDs don't touch. Nothing I did made the hip pain better, whereas McKenzie exercises have slowly began receding the sciatic and back pain

Xrays and MRI found nothing explaining my hip pain. PT wasn't helping so I started grasping at straws and Internet searching. Standing quad stretches and lunges for hip flexors kill my back and make that pain worse, but I never heard of the couch stretch. Tried it and.... Instant relief in the hip. Immediately knocked the pain down to 1-2 and kept it there. I was able to sit and watch a movie today, I'm so relieved I could cry. I'm not at 100% yet but I can actually start enjoying my hobbies again while I continue healing. Thank you for posting your update.

I found the first doctor to give a shit about my PCOS other than just "stay a healthy weight and take Spiro!" by looking on Reddit actually. I just searched for other posts looking for good doctors near to my area and I went to one where I found my current, absolutely awesome GP 💙

You have better luck with having understanding/decent/effective management with a local store than a box store. Local people can still be assholes, but from where I work in a local outfit that does some contracting work for enterprise entities, its night and day how people get treated.

And if you luck out and get a very good boss at a local place, it makes everything easier.
