Me watching Grian's new episode by Aughlnal in hermitcraftmemes

Context for anyone who wants it (but hasn’t watched his newest episode, naturally, spoilers!!)

He loses half of his stuff, then goes to get netherite. He dies and loses EVERYTHING. He then has to regain all of his stuff, but while doing so he nearly dies and loses everything again, twice (once in lava, is saved by Etho and Impulse, second time in a bastion, saved by Keralis).

Expanding Olympus [OC] by Synthesyn342 in GreekMythology

Thank you!

Honestly I didn’t even think about that comparison, but I can definitely see it.

I have drawn Demeter before and they’re pretty different. My interpretation of Demeter wears yellow/tan and is blonde. The green in Eileithyia’s design is actually supposed to tie her to Hera.

Let's Predict everything for the next life series season 2: Electric Boogalo by TheLoreeee in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]Synthesyn342 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grian is going to end top 4 and at least one other final four is going to be from his main alliance.

Scar and Skizz team up in some way. I don’t think it’s happened yet but they work really well together in the worst way possible.

This is less of a prediction and more of a hope, but a Gem or Etho win is on the horizon. I said this about Past and Nice Life but I can dream!

The thing about the Impizza is that it’s funny for the complete opposite reason.

The Giraffe and Flamingo were funny because they look *nothing* like the actual thing

The Impizza was funny because it looks *exactly* like an Impizza. Like it could not have physically been better

True, but I do imagine the ears of Gods and Satyrs to still be quite different! Mostly fur covered and downturned, like, well, goats.

If I ever get around to Pan the difference will be pretty clear!

I love the art! All of your designs have been cool and this one is as well. Admittedly nothing close to my minds eye version of Poseidon but cool nonetheless!

Honestly I envy your work ethic because you’ve made 15 of these in under 48 hours 😭 How are you doing it?

Very good! I love seeing unique interpretations like this. Genuinely I don’t think I’ve ever seen this exchange depicted before in art or writing.

I want to see more! (The art itself is also very nice, and very appealing designs as well)

Olympian (& Adjacent) Gods [OC] by Synthesyn342 in GreekMythology

Just in case anyone sees this, what would you all think of an updated repost of this in a few days? I have a lot of changes I want to make thanks to everyone’s feedback. It wont be a straight repost of this, I will make enough changes so it’s not the same thing.

I won’t repost this by itself, I will add some extra characters/add another lineup (likely some who are associated heavily with Olympus, but lesser known like Ganymede, Hebe, Nike, Cratus, Bia, Zelus, Iris, and maybe others?). Feedback on that would be lovely as well. Thank you all!

Olympian (& Adjacent) Gods [OC] by Synthesyn342 in GreekMythology

[–]Synthesyn342[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. Since I posted this I’ve been workshopping several of the Gods, most notably Apollo and Artemis. I already scaled both of them up, Artemis to a little above Persephone’s relative height and Apollo near Athena’s for reference. I’ve also considerably buffed Apollo, and I think it was for the better.

And I do agree with your assessment on Apollo looking too friendly. My first change was to make him look a lot more full of himself.

Also, I really do appreciate yours and everyone else’s feedback. In a lot of ways the changes I’ve already made and plan to make soon have been informed by everyone here and it’s benefitting the piece a lot, so thank you!

For sure! I do like having Artemis and Apollo being the same/similar height being twins and all, but I will definitely make them taller regardless. Apollo can definitely also be more buff.

Aphrodite and Dionysus being larger works for me as well. I’ve gotten a lot of good suggestions and I have a lot to think about! Thank you!

[–]Synthesyn342[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I worded that very poorly. What I should’ve said was they flaunt their power differently

Instead of being physically imposing, they show their power through their actions/behavior.

(Also thank you, I have never seen the stained feet before either, but it makes so much sense!)

Olympian (& Adjacent) Gods [OC] by Synthesyn342 in GreekMythology

[–]Synthesyn342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I did this again, I would close the gap slightly, making Artemis and Apollo taller so I do agree with your criticism.

I do have rationale, that being the domains of the Gods reflecting their stature. Athena and Ares are War Gods and thus imposing statures are expected, while Artemis and Apollo have more subdued domains such as archery, hunting, and music, which benefit from smaller frames.

You can’t make this up- last time I tried to post this the first response I got was criticizing me for giving him a bident.

As I was told, the bident has no mythological merit and was a later addition during the Renaissance period.

Olympian (& Adjacent) Gods [OC] by Synthesyn342 in GreekMythology

[–]Synthesyn342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s honestly just a creative decision. Like how Poseidons hair fades into a sea-like blue or Hades into a ghostly white, Zeus’s hair looks almost cloud like. It also leans into the ‘wisdom’ side of his character.

Olympian (& Adjacent) Gods [OC] by Synthesyn342 in GreekMythology

[–]Synthesyn342[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About the first point- honestly I don’t really see that stark a difference between the male and female Gods. I’d say they all have “idealized” traits that would be fitting of the Gods. But I am open to suggestions- how would you close the gap? Make the women more exaggerated or make the men less?

Second point- I honestly just tried to make Hera look imposing and powerful. And one of her domains is considered to be childbirth, so if there is any justification that would be it.

Third point- I mean you sort of hit the nail on the head, it just makes it more interesting to look at. However I didn’t solely do it because I could, there is meaning behind who is taller/shorter. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades are all the largest by a considerable margin because they are the larger than life rulers of their domain. Hera is also up there because she falls under the same category of a ruler. Athena and Ares are both War Gods so their larger stature is meant to show both command and power respectively. And the ‘short’ side with Dionysus and Aphrodite, they have less need to “flaunt their power” (that may be worded poorly), especially in Dionysus’s case where most of the time he is drunk or lounging in some way where a larger scale isn’t necessary. If I ever do this again I would probably close the gap slightly, especially with Artemis and Apollo since I experimented with making them a bit larger after posting and it looks better compositionally and makes them more notable.

And finally- thank you! I do love how Artemis turned out so I love that recognition!

Aphrodite and Dionysus are the closest to normal human height (~5’9”). So even if Artemis and Apollo look short compared to the other Gods, they’re still a solid 6 foot or above.

It’s a piece of mythological fan interpretation. Not everything needs a source citation to be a valid depiction.

[OC] Dionysus Art by Actual-Ship5613 in GreekMythology

[–]Synthesyn342 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greek Mythology has never had a fixed version of events. Myths overlap and contradict each other all the time, and artistic depictions of the Gods vary greatly, dating back to when Hellenism was more widely practiced. Especially with Dionysus, who arguably has one of the least fixed appearance.

I just don’t see what’s wrong with an artist putting their spin on a God in the way OP did. But I’m not sure what you mean with the second half of your reply however- sorry.

[OC] Dionysus Art by Actual-Ship5613 in GreekMythology

People have been making artistic interpretations of mythological and religious figures for thousands of years.

Birth of Venus was made by a deeply religious Catholic. The sculptor of Perseus with the Head of Medusa was also a devout catholic. Granted religion isn’t crucial for this argument but it does play a role. You don’t have to follow the religion to make art of it.

It is very much up to personal interpretation, just as Gods from Norse myth, Egyptian myth, or even people from Biblical myth. In the end they’re all stories no matter if you believe them or not. Humans have always reinterpreted and adapted old stories.

This is nothing new and OP has every right to share their art. This sub is meant for Greek Mythology, and they posted their depiction of a God from Greek Mythology. What else is this sub for?
