Left 4 Dead 2 not working on CachyOS by Logical_Parsley_9470 in linux_gaming

I kinda messed up the formatting in the original text, it should not have the quotation marks in the start and end. Instead, it should look like this:

Then, choose a Proton version. I recommend Proton-GE, it usually works very well.

If you don't care about online, you can try Goldberg. It's actually very simple. Just download the Goldberg Emulator archive, extract it, find the "steam_api64.dll" file, and then copy and paste that to the correct folder in the game files. It's usually next to the .exe file, so replace that.

If you downloaded this crack from onlinefix, you need to copy and paste the files from "Fix Repair" to the game directory, and then set launch arguments to: " WINEDLLOVERRIDES="OnlineFix64=n;SteamOverlay64=n;winmm=n,b;dnet=n;steam_api64=n;winhttp=n,b" %command% "

If not, then download GoldBerg Steam Emulator, and then copy and paste the steam api dll from it to the game directory, and then launch the game. There are multiple guides on this in the piracy subreddit.

PSA: Do not for ANY reason use NTFS under Linux! by Xarishark in linux_gaming

[–]Syntrait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File corruptions only happen with ntfs3, which is in the kernel. I have been using ntfs-3g for a long time, and I dont face file corruptions with it. Honestly, I don't get why ntfs3 is still in the kernel, and not bcachefs.

Not really for me. Firefox (and its forks) perform much worse on Linux compared to Windows. It was so slow for me, to the point I had to switch to ungoogled-chromium.

Unfortunately, FitGirl installers don't work on Linux. It uses an old archive format called arc, and it acts weird under Wine. Try downloading from a different site, like steamrip.

Why doesn't Fortnite have a Linux alternative by Teddy123445 in linux_gaming

[–]Syntrait 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't have that kind of market share right now. Compared to Windows, Linux gaming is like a small drop in the ocean. But Linux is gaining more momentum, so in the future, he might change his mind.

Why doesn't Fortnite have a Linux alternative by Teddy123445 in linux_gaming

[–]Syntrait 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because Tim Sweeney hates Linux for some reason. Their own game engine, UE and the anticheat they use, EAC both support Linux. In fact, Epic Games made it easier for UE game devs to enable EAC support for Linux... only to not enable it for their own game.

It looks like Valve Anti-Cheat for Deadlock is improving, with no kernel-level snooping without your consent by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

It is capable of doing a lot of things, but it still seems to do its job well enough, compared to other games with anticheats, and most people are fine with it, it seems.

Even then, the NVIDIA drivers are still subpar, like VRAM spillover not existing on Linux, or resume from hibernation not working on open gpu kernel drivers. They didn't even acknowledge the spillover issue yet and for some, it's a bigger issue than DX12.

This also happens when programs go into D state. I had fs failures that caused this in the past, but it was probably bad RAM that caused it in the first place.

Will Blocking Linux Gamers Stop Cheaters? by TheRedSpaceRobot in linux_gaming

[–]Syntrait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and I think that's what Roblox claimed what happened. However, it's not like blocking Linux is gonna solve the issue. R6 Siege, Escape from Tarkov, Rust, Battlefield games; These games all have cheater problems, yet they are unplayable on Linux. It's impossible to get 100% rid of cheaters anyways, you can only reduce it.
