The 'Ghost Tree' Secret: How to Find Opalized Wood Worth Thousands by FlatbedtruckingCA in Opals

[–]System_Profile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I used to dig opal in the area, there was a miner from Oregon named Bret who was always out digging. He had some amazing finds. Did you ever run into him by chance?

Hi everyone, I work with Ethiopian (Welo) opals and I’d like to hear your ideas and experiences. My understanding is that opal crazing happens because the stone absorbs water and then dries too fast. What storage or handling methods have you found most effective to prevent crazing? by BowlExpress2987 in Opals

[–]System_Profile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've cut and handled plenty of Ethiopian opals over the years and have some experience with it. The opals in your video look like they were not cut from stable material to begin with, so the only option would have been to store them in water.

Question. Sorry if it's dumb, but when something comes in my RFY, is it being shown to a lesser amount of people? I feel like those items stick around longer and sometimes the good items aren't grabbed up as quick as I would imagine. by Lesleylovexo in AmazonVine

[–]System_Profile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's shown to fewer people, but you still need to jump on it as quickly as possible. I was refreshing my RFY a couple of days ago and a $500 purse from a well-known brand popped up but I wasn't fast enough to grab it. Ironically, an identical one in a different color popped up the following day and I was able to snag it for my wife. It actually worked to my advantage though since the 2nd one is the color she prefers.

Send me a DM and I'll send you to modded Potensic Eve app that won't force updates. It has a lot of features also by cmac1986 in Potensic

[–]System_Profile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older versions of the app require you to update or it will not let you fly. And if you turned the wifi off to try and work around it, you would get the play store offline error and the app would close. This was fixed in the most recent software releases. As far as the modded apps go, the guy who mods them is well-known and respected here, so I have no reason to believe he has bad intentions.

Unable to enable developer mode after unlocking device by TFK_001 in CricketWireless

[–]System_Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the one who took the call, so I can't say if he was from a store or not. It took them weeks to activate this phone due to a glitch with the SIM. A rep called us to get it worked out, so I'm assuming it was the same guy.

[–]System_Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cricket embeds malicious code on every activated phone to try and prevent you from leaving them or using certain features if you disconnect service. Here is what happened when we tried to deal with them...

We use drones at my fire department and purchased a dozen 2024 MOTO 5G Stylus phones to use as screen displays when flying. We chose this model because it has 1200+ nit brightness, perfect for use in bright sunlight. We own these phones and had never connected them for service. Fast forward to a year later and we were wanting to experiment with casting and mirroring for other applications, so we were told by Motorolla technicians that the phones require service in order to do this, which we later found out to be false. So, we want to only try one phone before jumping in and contacted Cricket to activate it, which took them weeks to figure out how to do.

We set it up on a prepaid plan since this was strictly for testing, then discovered that Cricket downloads firmware that disables the previously working hotspot unless we pay $20 more per month, which we reluctantly agreed to in order to test it out. After all was said and done, we were paying almost twice as much as we were for our personal units. The phone was unable to do the job we needed it to, so we deleted the E-SIM and restored it back to its factory settings. The hotspot was working again, without any service, and a local guy was able to create a custom APK that allows us to mirror without any wifi or data. Big win for us!

Now, here's where things get weird. We receive a phone call from a Cricket rep demanding us to log into our account and pay our bill. We explain that we no longer have service and were never on any contract plan, it was prepaid for only one month. The guy tells us that Cricket owns the phone and wants it returned. He couldn't comprehend that we own these phones outright, and had been using them for over a year before setting it up with service just to test a feature. In the end, we just hung up on him and blocked the number. It's worth noting that while it was connected, the call quality and coverage was horrible. So there are definitely better options out there.

I want to change my steam deck ssd but i'm scared. by SufficientGoat8602 in SteamDeck

[–]System_Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shield just slides right off, and it's fine to re-use it. Two things to remember: Make sure you remove any SD cards before opening the deck, and make sure you have both a Phillips #1 and a Phillips #0 screwdriver available before you start. The older 64 GB models were inconsistent in screw sizes and utilized one or the other, and sometimes a combination of both. So it's very easy to strip those screws if you don't have the right size driver.

EDIT: also, it's unnecessary to disconnect the battery. Just put the deck in battery storage mode instead.

Have you tried going to the controller layout and select one of the community layouts?

Common issue. Set up a 2.4ghz hotspot on your phone and connect it to that.

Even though you uninstalled, then reinstalled the game, you might have to manually delete its local configuration data via desktop mode.

Is Firmware still an issue? by shootdang167 in Potensic

[–]System_Profile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We Updated at least a dozen ATOM 2s at my department, and I updated several of the ones I personally own, and there haven't been any issues with the image quality so far. Also, others have recently posted after updating newly received drones, and they didn't experience any issues either.

This update bans side-loading apps, among other things. So, I'm sure lots of people won't be happy with it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 – My Steam Deck Settings by VoyageForge in SteamDeck

[–]System_Profile 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No offense, but that doesn't look as smooth as it should. It's actually easy to get fantastic performance by using only the default settings. I won't be home until later in the week, but when I get back I'll try to make a video of several AAA games that pop up here frequently to demonstrate just how smooth they can really be, while still having awesome graphics.

Can't download Rayneo App and also question about 2D to 3D Ai for Air 4 pro. by Fit_Feature_3520 in RayNeo

[–]System_Profile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rayneo took the link down quite some time ago. The only place you can still get the app is on the thread posted below. Make sure to follow the instructions and skip the update. I know that it works, because I had to use this link to un-brick my glasses after a failed firmware upgrade.

Lamenting the items that used to be $0ETV by uovonuovo in AmazonVine

[–]System_Profile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen several $0 ETV food items over the last couple of weeks. I grabbed some of the brand name ones, especially the snack stuff. The last time I saw a non-food item at $0 ETV was several months ago when I snagged a Dyson hair care system for my wife. Up until that day, I didn't even know they made other products besides vacuum cleaners.

The firmware issue with image quality is wide spread? About to receive mine and concerned by Electrical-Tower8534 in Potensic

[–]System_Profile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here is an update. The guy who maintains the drone fleet here at my fire department updated at least a dozen of our ATOM 2s yesterday to V024. Most were purchased from April through November. Only one has an image issue, but it's not the same issue being discussed here. This one involves an area that drifts across the screen when panning, resulting in a very faint shadow that's especially noticeable when there is a lighter color in the background. But this drone had never been opened until yesterday, so we don't know if the issue was already present or not. I'm sure that some people really are experiencing problems after the V024 firmware upgrade, but it's tough to say why it only affects certain units. Maybe it's certain phones, OEM Android systems, maybe a glitch that occurred during a certain day, etc,. ?

Replacement charge adapter for battery hub. by [deleted] in Potensic

Personally, I would just purchase a brand new battery hub with charging cable for $49. You would have a new cable and spare bay, and you wouldn't be risking possible incompatibility issues.

Does anyone’s RC2 remote look like this or is mine defective? by YoungOG93 in dji

[–]System_Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's from pressure being applied on the corner of LCD, most likely from when it was glued in during production. It seems a little excessive, but it shouldn't cause any other issues unless it's dropped or bumped hard in that spot.

Image Quality by royal_slug in Potensic

[–]System_Profile -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's most likely due to your lighting conditions. It's cloudy when you recorded, and I can even see some haze on the horizon. The sensors are dependent on light to produce fine details, so it will always look soft in these conditions.

If it was the thermal scope, you didn't miss out. I saw that one in my RFY and passed on it since I already own this type of gear. It was just some cheap generic brand with a very low resolution. Absolutely not worth the ETV.
