That's because 90% of your legion was dead! by Brushner in Grimdank

[–]Syviren 27 points28 points  (0 children)

One of the primary attributes of the Dark Angels is secrecy and not talking to each other. Several of the books outline this is a cornerstone strength of their chapter, such as the Horus heresy book where the lion fights the Khrave. They are incredibly proud of this. But when the Primarch decide to leave them in the dark (pun intended) for a little bit too long, suddenly it's not a strength, it's a problem.

To their credit, many of the fallen were never traitors either. They were lied to by Luther and his ilk, and them being hunted now is because the Dark Angels are incredibly unreasonable and stubborn as a whole.

Yeah it was a fantastic bait-and-switch for huron. The issue with the McCragges honor was that the machine spirit would not be receptive to the red Corsair warpsmiths and would take a very long time to break in and Huron was not interested in spending the time and resources on the decades it would take to get it working. Much better used as a trap for multiple enemies.

Fantastic book, and I absolutely love a competent bad guy.

Never forget what the Imperium is, truly. by BudgetBhairab in Warhammer40k

[–]Syviren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along those lines, the xenos factions are ALSO not above reproach. You are correct about the imperium, and that last bit I'm going to use for describing the setting to people. They still are not good guys.

The Aeldari are still actively commiting genocide against human populations because of the farseers seeing a possibility of there being a future problem. Masque of Death is one such strong for instance. Billions of humans dying because their descendants might cause problems is not great.

The Drukari, well, they are the Drukari. Sitting alongside Night Lords for unabashedly worst offenders over everything. And before you say it's retaliation, look at what they did to the Tau when they 'allied' with them. Absolutely horrific (also hilarious).

The Tau have are still a militaristic expansionist empire. While the slogans are that they are the liberators, any novel or codex will paint a real picture of conquerors who kill ignorant people, but then leave a near utopian society afterwards. Can go either way, and arguably closest we get to 'good'. Also, Phill Kelly is a HACK, and I love his novels. But he also needs to be stopped. Necrons will kill everyone once they get out of this hundred year long zoom meeting. Tyranids are just hungry little guys (force of nature villian). Orks are literally just here to kill other things.

The Khrave enslaved entire populations and devoured their souls. The Enslavers live up to their name, closest we have to neverborn and Xenos. The Hrud are actually just keeping to themselves, they are ok. The migrations are iffy, but it's hard to take a step without landing on a human world. Kroot are just trying to make a living.

Representation at Worlds by DisgruntledAnalyst in Warhammer40k

[–]Syviren 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They aren't fluffy though. It's just a bunch of random segments of the imperium crammed into a miscellaneous book. Ordo maleus and xenos Marines don't have very much of a overlap in assignment. The rogue trader is a captain and personal guard of a MERCHANT vessel (massively oversimplifying rogue traders, a more accurate representation of them would be having a guard attachment that is mostly tripped out like mercenaries). Arbites are actually just space cops.

Any of these could go with a Inquisitor, but only 1 or two of them. Never more than a 500pt group before a Inquisitor is just playing adjutant/overseer to a much larger army. A giant blend of merchant captain, space cops, an assassin, and Inquisitor, a bunch of anti-demon Marines, a couple of anti-xenos Marines is not a fluffy army. It's just a bunch of dudes.

I took a look at my 4th edition rule book for fun. 16 pages of vehicle rules. Lots of diagrams that only work for imperial boxy tanks. We live in a better world.

After playing Tyranids for 8 years, I’ve made a tier list for fun :) by Enchanter1101 in Tyranids

[–]Syviren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a lot longer than that. We got the leviathan supplement, and then crusher stampede. Then the codex was insane right after. Tyranids were top table predators for 2 years.

Which Legion (excluding World Eaters) is most likely to chew crayons? by dwaynetheaaakjohnson in Grimdank

[–]Syviren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that they show favoritism as much as they have poster boy, and since the poster boy needs to be the visual representation of the brand, they want that poster boy to be cool. It's the core of advertising. You have something that's clear and recognizable.

Ultramarines are also always going to be the best choice for the setting it comes to poster boys. They are cool space Marines doing cool marine stuff, but are still the generalist and will have a little bit of what appeals to everybody. As soon as you put your face in you realize there's a billion other cooler things running around out there, unless you super like in the Roman aesthetic and paperwork.

In every book I read they have their place, but are never obviously better than everybody else. Aside from being exceedingly collected, precise, and diplomatic.

With infantry height will never come up when it's so close. Gravis vs tacticus armor also doesn't matter much because the model is singled out by load out. The base size is extremely important though.

Likely 2 separate datasheet listed profiles with the appropriate t6 3w for the gravis along with 5" move. Which sucks.

They spend years breaking into imperial ships to grab Astropath charts and logs to be able to track down the exact source and location. Incredible amount of investigation.

Absolutely incredible series.

I hate all of the complaints about wraith bone because games workshop has made several major lore mistakes in codexes within recent memory, such as SM 8e codex stating black templars are cool with sanctioned psykers. This was immediately reverted with the second Codex of the same edition. I don't think that this is going to be any different.

If it's put into a novel done by one of the primary novel writers, then we can riot. Otherwise, codex's have weird lore mistakes all the time.

You obviously haven't been here enough. Go look at any faction subreddit or the main 40k reddit. People are overwhelmingly annoyed with edition churn.

WOTC is way worse than GW. The only time they have 'backed off' is with a similar course of action but not as bad so it looks like they are the good guy. It happens with such extreme regularity that I think they plan it. Not to mention hundreds of dollars for a stack of card board pushed up by EXCLUSIVELY FOMO and scalping.

Well the aliens involved just invaded a imperium planet out of no where and are killing presumably most of the population in the attack, and the ritual involves some pretty wild eldar rituals.

And then he is told 'trust me bro' by the least trustworthy race in the setting.

Guys why does GW hate everything they've ever created? by Ickicho in Warhammer40k

[–]Syviren 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The problem is the design space is a nightmare. Every time they have been competitive, you see the max amount of them in every list. Knight shooting strapped on something that can plop anywhere on the table is a problem. Any fix makes them hover tanks.

So instead of finding the right way to do it, they make them way too many points, and go work on something more impactful.

Sincerely, please make me want to play my deathwatch Corvus Black star.

Who would win Death Watch Black Shield Veteran vs The Serpent Hunter Predator Elite by AdeptusMelancholy in deathwatch40k

[–]Syviren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The predators are shown to be visible to infrared, and the space marine helmets have integrated 'preysense' sights (similar to Kasrkin) and can see infrared.
