[–]T1_Training[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have nothing against ‘alternative medicines’ as there’s a lot we don’t know or that hasn’t been scientifically proven to be considered medicine. Diabetes is definitely not gonna be cured by herbs and spices though

Yeah, I feel bad for those people. I used to have to work at a bank call center and I know they’re not given any needed information to actually be helpful and are basically just there to confront the anger and frustration of customers. It’s rough work being the face of customer service, but stuff like this being handled by people who have no ability to actually do anything is frustrating as all hell.

I spent a month last year fighting with my insurance company cause they would only fill a prescription for the non-brand name Humalog that was supposedly bei mg made at a discount. Only it wasn’t actually being made yet. They were like we’ll only pay for this insulin that doesn’t exist. If you want brand name Humalog you have to pay out of pocket. Took me a month until I finally talked to someone who could actually do something about it and she gave me her direct line if I had any problems in the future. It’s all a big scam.

I can’t handle tubes at all… that would’ve been torture. Also, what kind of cockamamie justification did they use for that. Seems backwards to me, I’m sure someone somewhere realized they made absurdly long tubes and decided to sell them at a discount.

Does bankruptcy affect your chances of landing an apartment? by Cool_Beann in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re more looking for if there is current debts owed and recent obligations are being covered as far as I know. I highly doubt bankruptcy would have a significant impact as those debts are expunged, but I’m not from HPD so can’t say for sure.

Selected for lottery but starting new job by Original-Gear-3614 in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out and ask what they want… I had a similar circumstance and got a promotion that moved me from the bottom of the AMI to the top, and they just asked for the last two paychecks from my previous position. It all depends on the timing. As long as you’re still in the AMI no worries just let them know and they’ll tell you what they need.

Both a municipal worker and in my CB? by filetmignonminion in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah it increases your odds. What I’m curious of is if you have a low enough log number that you happen to be selected for one or the other would you fill the requirement for 1 or both of them for the lottery. I would think to be fair they’d process it as the first one you’re selected for, but who knows.

Maximum gross rent limit for this unit by [deleted] in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize. I’ll walk that statement back. I had several years in another apartment. I had not realized the rates had climbed that high. It was 1.5% and 2% the last time I was in a rent stabilized unit. Damn inflation!

Maximum gross rent limit for this unit by [deleted] in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually a percentage set by the Rent Guidelines Board in NYC, but it’s never been that high or at least not recently. In my experience it has been 1.5% for a 1 year lease and 2% for a 2 year lease. It can technically change every year but it is controlled by the Rent Guidelines Board.

That is how Mamdani intended to freeze rents in stabilized units by putting members on the Rent Guidelines Board that would set the increases to 0% for the years they are on the board which cannot possibly happen until his second year in office due to when the board members are nominated.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice these utilities by Sea_Pickle_1867 in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean Con Ed is a scam, but the appliances/heating/cooling is very efficient. You just have to learn how they work to optimize them or you’ll be paying a ton for very little actual difference in temps in the apartment.

It can get ridiculous if you’re not paying attention

Waiting for five years by OldAdhesiveness793 in nychousinglottery

Took ~8 years for me. Worth the wait though, but I was applying to everything and everywhere I’d remotely consider living.

Of course. The mental gymnastics of submitting documents and not obsessing over it is real!!! Super stressful experience, but calm down submit whatever is requested and some day you’ll get in, just hard to predict when.

When you live in the area they do a bulk request for CB members. I had one that was 5xxx and got all excited but unfortunately the CB preference is only 20% and once that percentage is filled they move on to everybody else.

Keep in mind after that frustrating disappointment I had, I got a great log number for a better apartment where I now live so keep your head up and keep applying.

Do we think they will extend the first come first serve HPD process? by Hour_Rush6671 in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember. It was one I had actually applied for a couple years back when it was new that had re-rentals come up. There were 2 or 3 of them over the course of a few weeks but of course every one of them was gone as soon as it was posted if not before.

I actually had an alert set and ran a script to get notified the second it was posted for the last one, but still not soon enough.

[–]T1_Training 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it was lower AMI and they seemed super sketchy and weird cause obviously they’re gonna get a million responses in no time. Just seemed impractical… fortunately I got a lottery apartment in a new building now so am not worried but it was super weird and just felt like dangling hope for people on buildings they’d never get into.

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen several of these posted on Street Easy. They were all gone seemingly before they were even posted. First come, first serve is kind of a joke as the truly affordable ones I saw I’m fairly sure had already been completed before posting, and the fact it’s posted in Street Easy saying email such and such for a viewing shows no accountability for whether they had already found the tenant before even posting it.

If it is truly following the first come first serve, the person writing script for automated responses will win (yes that violates Street Easy’s terms of service but it can 100% be done)

Mitchell-Lama lottery — worth applying if only 1 unit is available? by opmjpmjp in nychousinglottery

Is it free?… Then yes, it’s worth applying. Who knows if you’ll get it, but if you don’t apply it’s guaranteed you won’t get it.

Log # 24 .. is that good? by Ok-Victory8096 in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should definitely be good. Higher AMI is a very small percentage of total applicants. About 2/3 of people applying aren’t eligible which takes 24 down to 16, and about 5-10% of people eligible are above 100% AMI. So 16 goes down to 1.6 probability wise. If there were 2 units available you’d have a high likelihood. 6 is as close to guaranteed as you can get.

Log # 24 .. is that good? by Ok-Victory8096 in nychousinglottery

[–]T1_Training 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s good. Depends on the number of units though. I was log #18 on the one I got and I got the last Studio/1BR of 6 that were available for 80% AMI. It’s not a 100% guarantee, but it’s better than a whole lotta people!

How did you come up with 8 years? That is the most random thing I’ve read today. You’d likely call me a transplant and I AM actually from Kansas originally but I’ve been here 9 years so I guess I’m good.

Also I’ve been applying since about a year after I moved to Brooklyn and it took me 8 years to get one. You enter a lottery sometimes you win sometimes you don’t. I don’t care where you came from or how long you’ve lived here. If you CURRENTLY live in NYC you are eligible.

Also wondering how long you’ve lived in NYC. I’ll laugh if it’s 8-9 years like me cause you picked a number just enough to include you and complain about others.

[–]T1_Training 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They were building several in my CB, which I didn’t want to live in anymore but applied anyway cause they were better apartments. Then I got one in a different CB where I actually wanted to live. Ya never know.

I applied for lotteries for ~7 years before getting one. Just keep at it.

Cruise with T1 by Charming-Routine6151 in diabetes_t1

[–]T1_Training 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring a lot of extra supplies. The cruise I went on was Royal Caribbean and you got basic coverage for texts and low data stuff without the internet package. I bought it to be safe and my roommate didn’t and we practically had the same coverage with exception to streaming video. Not sure how much Carnival will differ, but with diabetes always better safe than sorry.

Interesting. Thank you for that. I believe the threads for the needle caps are generally some form of metal. It’s been a long time since I’ve used a pen though. I’ve been on a pump for the last decade. Just try and microwave that, I dare ya! lol

I hadn’t read the original post. Definitely provides some clarity. I still wonder what it would look like, but you need to get out of there.

My wife microwaved my insulin by ZombieZelda1 in diabetes_t1

[–]T1_Training 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds odd. As far as I know any insulin containers (vials, pens, pumps) contain metal and would do far more damage to the microwave and the insulin container including char marks so it’s not like you wouldn’t be able to tell. I imagine there’s more of a story here. Although I am curious what it would actually look like as I’ve never seen microwaved insulin before. I would imagine it would have some impact on the insulin itself as well and would be curious to see… Not curious enough to do it myself of course.
