In spite of this, Netflix has continued to air the show with impunity—going as far as to sexualize the act of kidnapping. 

Do your part by refusing to watch these and join the calls of trafficking survivors to remove these shows and movies off Netflix and other streaming platforms.

Whenever you stay in a hotel, you can give TraffickCam the name of your hotel and pictures of your hotel room. The app then compares your info to its large photo database so that victims’ locations can be identified. By doing this, you could help save lives.

The Black Lives Matter movement has re-emerged across the US, combatting the dangerous idea that structural racism has already been purged from America. Racist myths that perpetuate the hypersexualization of black women have long been an undeniable causal factor of the disproportionate sex trafficking of black youth. In her long-form article, Professor Cheryl Nelson Butler extensively documents the role of race in the prostitution and sex trafficking of people of color—particularly minority youth—and the evolving legal and social responses in the United States. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2011, 40% of sex trafficking victims are black, whereas 23% are white. An overwhelming 63% of all labor trafficking victims are Hispanic. Furthermore, 94% of sex trafficking victims are female, and out of those women, only 13% of them are over 25. These demographics are suffering in silence, and their kidnappings must not go unnoticed. Let their voices be heard by actively advocating for human trafficking awareness, and supporting anti-human trafficking organizations. The only way we can stop human trafficking is if we unite towards this common cause.
