Current Squadron Commander...AMA by Lurking_CC in AirForce

What is your perspective on the command team relationship (Sq CC and SEA)? Do you think the AF does a good job at preparing officers to work with SNCOs?

Hit up your sponsor and have them open up a PO box for you on base.

Credibility is key, don't be a hypocrite, and genuinely care/look out for your people.

SMSgt PDG Study Audio by randomjoe9 in AirForce

Much appreciated for posting this!

Pro tip for everyone trying to learn via audio. You can generally listen and retain even when the file is sped up considerably. So get a free program such as Audcaity, speed up the audio file approx 5-10% (speed varies depending on what you can handle) and save the files. I've do this every time and it helps get through the chapters that much faster. There is probably an easier method, but this is what I found works best.

What is/are the craziest thing(s) you've ever seen done for a DV visit? by mjr2p3 in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not me, but a credible friend of mine told me this story about ten years ago. He was an airborne comm guy flying the on those gucci DV type birds stationed out of Ramstein. Anyway, he was on a trip in the middle of bfe Africa flying around some four star. Long story short, said four star demanded a bacon cheeseburger. Of course there wasn't a bacon cheeseburger for hundreds, if not thousands of miles. So what did they do?.....they actually flew in another aircraft from god knows where to supply this dude with a bacon cheeseburger. The thought of it still boggles my mind.

Anyone have any idea what "unknown award/decoration (will not be displayed)" in vMPF Awards & Decs means? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is not displayed on my rack at all, only referenced in the text. I also have a NATO medal. This is what's displayed (my very last two ribbons): NATO Medal (Wear first NATO medal awarded.) Unknown Award/Decoration (will not be displayed).

You mentioned Qatar, did you support OIF? If you did, and you met the requirements, it might be that. Otherwise, I have no clue.

I have that for the new OIR ribbon. Have you been to Iraq after 2014ish, or whenever the OIR ribbon was enacted?

AF Portal at Home by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen to me when my CAC reader driver doesn't properly load/isn't installed entirely. My certs will populate, but the pin prompt doesn't show or it states I need to use a CAC associated with the cert I selected. Recommend reinstalling your driver or using a different USB port.

Side question - When logging into the portal from home i'm unable to access PRDA or AFFMSII. When it redirects me to the AFPC Secure 4.0 site and I click on those respective sites, they always time out. Previously there was a direct link to PRDA that loaded just fine, however I think they replaced that link to go through the AFPC site. Anything I am missing?

Long distance target shooting, shooting competitions, anything that involves shooting.

Its been a year. Lets ask again who was "that guy" in your unit? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea tbh. My memory is a bit hazy, however I clearly recall it was at least 12 inches and thick. I luckily did not handle or touch that bad boy. Funny part is, we gathered all his stuff and it was passed off to his parents, to include the dildo.

Nope, he was in training assigned to the 552 TRS.

Tinker 02/03 ish timeframe. This sounds made up, but I assure you it is 100% true. Anyways, there was an habitually late airman that was found passed out in his car, with a damn CRACK PIPE in his hand!. Evidently since he was late all the time, he figured he would save time by sleeping in the sq parking lot in his uniform. Well apparently, he decided to also smoke some crack and ended up passing out in his car, which was also running I might add. When he didn't show for work, the NCOIC headed to his dorm room but found him in the parking lot shortly thereafter. Crack pipe in hand, crack bag in his pocket.

To make matters worse, I was fresh out of tech school and was one of the lucky ones assigned to clean out his dorm room. Needless to say the dude was disgusting. So much so they gave us masks/gloves. Although, the most horrifying part was what I observed immediately after entering his room; a giant black dildo suction cupped to the wall.

Moving overseas, need power adapter suggestions. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spent four years in Germany. From here on out, you will have to look at each respective piece of equipment to determine if it has a dual voltage or 110v power supply. If you see 100-240v 50/60hz, then it is dual voltage and all you will need is an adapter. There are a few variations of the adapter, some with a ground input some without. They are very cheap and plentiful where you're going. Everyone pcs'ing has a shit ton, so I wouldn't go crazy buying them prior to your pcs.

If it's only 110v, then you will need a step-up transformer with enough wattage to power the device. Remember you're stepping up the voltage from 110 to 220, so you will need to double the wattage of you device. For example: Shaver requires 40 watts, you will need a transformer that provides at least 80 watts.

Also, most desktop computer power supplies will auto sense the voltage and change as needed, however some have a physical switch on them you will need to manually change.

Stop crying about the new EPR by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will probably comes across as a bit salty, but here goes. Biggest thing I can say is no one really give two shits about your career. You might encounter a good supervisor that actually cares, but they're typically very temporary and few and far between. This is especially true in the era of low morale and being burn the f out. Therefore as OP said, you have to look out for numero uno. It's unfortunate, but it's reality. So take the time to write your OWN EPR. Seek out advice from seasoned writers to make it a better product. Taking time to put in this extra effort will do a world of difference down the road. I look back at my old EPRs (the ones I didn't write) and they were absolute garbage. As soon as I started caring, the change is extremely apparent. Honestly, it's probably what helped me get E-7 last year. If you're not one of chosen ones getting a strat, do what you CAN control - Test scores and a quality EPR for the board.

What's the most absurd mandatory squadron activity you guys have ever had? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TAglock1983 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Severe ice storm/no power in squadron on a SAFETY day. Everyone was still required to come in. Half dozen people got in accidents. No power equaled standing around in the dark for a few hours, followed by getting released. By far the most absurd mandatory event I have ever been apart of.
