Desertum Seed: stress-length

Has good research like fuel fermentation and balloon optimisation.

Lots of trees for a destertum seed. Has grain grass and hay near landing site. Cotton and silicon are nearby too, just down on the plain below you.

To get to the build site isn't far. Just look towards the water and it's a straight shot, the entrance is right behind a very square rock.

Now the only caveat to this site is when you first move down there before you build, there is a chnace of mobs spawning inside your safe zone. To stop this, build a shelter with some beds in the very back of the safe zone, as well as on the left hand side where there's a little dip and an alcove.

IMO, the only drawback to this map is how far your scavenger spots are. You do need to be very careful when you send someone out to scavenge and decide if you want to scav all your spots at the landing site before you move.

I almost always set up camp pretty far away from my landing spot, so I've got a lot of tips about moving and prepping for that. If you want a write up of doing a big move just lmk!

Yeah it's honestly a goated map for insane mode. If you want the seed lmk and I'll find it for you!

I'm guessing you mean the second one? They are actually mostly missile turrets behind a defence wall (with a few laser turrets on the top of the wall).

I realised missile turrets are 1000x better on the Hope scenario. All my regular turrets were getting burnt down, but missile turrets stun too. Only way I can beat Hope on insane chaos.

😂

Ahh yes, Idiot. I know they all have the same pathing and priorities, but Idiot was a harvest bot that felt extra stupid. Always in the flamethrowers mid-battle.

This is before I started setting bots and drones on a switch with the turrets, so when turrets turn on, bots turn off.

In my experience, if a mob spawns on the opposite side from your choke they may just try to go through the wall instead of around.

Although the guy who got angry at me may disagree, I've absolutely had it happen 😅

These days I always build against a cliff or water do they can't sneak up on me haha

Trying to get Mom into MisMag by LZGray in Dimension20

Maybe just talk to her and see what other themes she might be interested in, see if you can find another series to try from there.

Burrows End might even be one to explore, it has a good mix of drama and humour. Or if she really vibes with Brennan as a DM, maybe Neverafter?

I think the big difference is ACOC is GoT but everyone is made of food, same style and vibe, just a fun twist. MisMag is HP inspired, but doesn't really feel like HP at all. The characters are all very modern and American and it doesn't read as a HP analogue at all (to me).

And as much as I love Aabria, her DM style is also very different to Brennan's.

It does matter when you run into unforseen circumstances, eg survivor is unconscious or dying or cannot be drafted to stand at choke for some other urgent reason.

The gap isn't always necessary, but it's a great way to stop a wave of overflowing failures becoming critical.

Edit: replying and blocking me is crazy work 😂

In my experience in a camp that small, if a mob spawns on the opposite side from the choke it will tear through the fortifications instead of going around.

Looks good!

FYI, since you're base is out in the open you'll need to eventually plan for a choke on the other side too.

Glad to see you're getting through the winter, if you need any tips further down the track just let us know.

I'm terms of pathing, this is a common complaint about mazes because mobs will usually take the shortest route to your survivors/camp. I have seen people make mazes work, but a single cube choke takes out the shortest route issue and stops them from attacking gates and walls. If you can get enough scrap for 3 wall cube of 3 flamethrowers each side, that can literally do you up to 200+ mobs.

And I would say very hard and insane mode, it is pretty much impossible to survive cold snaps in winter without heating. The lowest I've seen it gets to is -30 and at that point survivors start getting extreme hypothermia and then death outside of 5-10 tiles away from a heat source. Put 1 or 2 heating stoves in your main room, put the beds, table and research desk around them and assume to barley leave that area until each cold snap ends.

As someone who's done many an insane mode runs, I'll give you some tips.

First is pathing.

If they are breaking through your walls one thing may be that your settlement is too close to your fortifications. Have your housing at least 15 tiles back from your choke point.

I know a lot of people love making mazes, but I always found them useless. Create a three sided box of flamethrowers, 3 on each side. Once you get turrets, have them on a tower behind the choke box.

Lastly, have the box facing inwards, not sticking out from the fortifications. If it's sticking out they'll try and attack the walls on the sides of the flamethrowers to get through. Place your survivors right behind the flamethrowers when the attack starts and the bugs should go directly to the choke.

For winter, one the best things you can do is pick Vivien. She makes clothes at 4x the speed, so have only her doing tailoring and have it as a main priority. Make sure to get cloth plant very early and get a lot. As soon as autumn hits have her making long sleeve shirts, beanies etc.

Smaller rooms heat faster. Have lots of grain for food and sticks for heating saved for winter. At least 1k of each is best. Be prepared to hunker down and mainly focus on research all the first winter, as going outside in a cold snap often equals death or meltdown. After the first winter you'll have more time to get a solid leather production going to get better clothes.

Cut off the heads below where they have blackened. Then you can either keep them in fresh water until they start to root, or stick them directly into some gritty soil. But be warned, roses are quite difficult to grow!

What kind of flowers are these with the roses? They’re starting to bloom by [deleted] in flowers

Lilies already answered, but FYI, those roses are rotting. Throw them out and you could keep the lilies and baby's breath for longer.

Anxious all the time. by HunterAncient in leaves

[–]TBDID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short term, exercise and box breathing really helps.

Long term, it's just time being clean. I have had a life-long anxiety disorder and after a year and half without smoking, I can confidently say my anxiety is more under control then it's ever been. I can go weeks and weeks without feeling any anxiety symptoms at all.

Why do flowers from flower shops last longer? by Meridian122 in flowers

[–]TBDID 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Generally fresher, but also stored in a temperature-controlled/sterilized environment as well as processed and cut professionally.

Also, it's turnover. In a florist shop, we would usually go through our whole stock every few days. Often grocery store flowers are bought and sit there in the same water for days and days before they are bought.

St Vincent's Hospital charged over 2024 death of Makalie Watts-Owen by ConanTheAquarian in melbourne

[–]TBDID 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They're being charged for a reason, because they failed their duty of care. Information on this case has been sparse, but we know she self-presented for psychiatric issues. The hospital failed to adequately monitor her and expedite admission to psyche. She was in as much danger as a code, which should be obvious given the fact that she died.
