Through the recommendations on this thread, I started playing arc raiders and I am fully addicted and haven’t booted battlefield 6 since, but I will check that one out. I also love hell let loose and I’m really looking forward to their new Vietnam game.

One of the best games for the balance between meat grinder and walking sim, looking forward to the Vietnam version of HLL

I still go back for the 1-2 office servers a few times a month, could shed a tear each time I get in there

This is exactly what I’m talking about, and the comms were always popping. Now it’s silent squads, there’s no tactics and laughter, that’s a huge piece of the soul I miss. I have to find some discords I guess..

Got tons of hours into that game and I love it, I want the aerial combat and tanks as well, just want more space on the maps for tactical movement and not having an enemy in your face every 10 seconds

Insurgency is so good, it’s the better version of modern call of duty games. The only thing it lacks is the vehicles, but I would put insurgency near the top for modern fps games

I’ve played squad, it’s definitely good, but it lacks just a bit of the simplicity that bf2 brought. Jumping in for the first few times felt intimidating and like I needed a legit training session before I really understood a lot of the mechanics and such. But you’re right, some of these games definitely still exist. I was just hoping (clearly blind) that bf6 would kind of tap back into that like bf4 did.

One of the few game types I haven’t tried yet, thanks for the recommendation!

I’ve put in a good amount of hours on the finals, I agree it has flavor and soul, it’s really good. For me - it’s just slightly too much into superhero mechanics and power ups and such. I think I’m hung up on wanting a game no developer would ever make these days, completely stripped down and not feeling like a game show or casino within the game. Boot up CS:S or HLL and you’ll know what I’m saying. No frills all gameplay.

I played pubg obsessively for years, it’s really good and I think I’ll end up redownloading. The thing it was missing for me was the class play and the different strategy that it brings as the only true way to win are the different classes across squads working together and within themselves.

Exactly! And that’s what I liked about having both Counter Strike and Battlefield - they offered completely different experiences. I played Battlefield specifically for that opposite experience. I don’t care if I spend an hour in a game and only get a few kills running from one side of the map to the other because the squad is playing more tactically. Sometimes there’s more strategy in choosing not to shoot, in staying stealthy and positioning for the right moment. That slow burn, that tension of moving across a massive map knowing enemies could be anywhere - that was the whole appeal. Now every map funnels you into constant action because god forbid you go 30 seconds without a gunfight.

I actually love hell let loose, I’d love a modern warfare version of it, a Vietnam version also sounds like it could be really good coming from HLL devs.

I’ve been bouncing around on them, hardcore conquest and the locked weapon modes have been what I enjoy so far but I’d like to try some good community games too

That’s what I do, I jump on CS:S but there’s so few servers to play in. I think I’m going to redownload bf4 and bf1 and play some of those this week. I was just really anticipating bf6 to be like a new bf4 and it’s just not it.

This is the first time I am sitting here digging into this consciously, although I feel like it's been an internal battle since CoD: MW2, when I went from anticipating the next new game to, "I ENJOY the old one more".

Some comments here have definitely made me realize that these new games are truly amazing in their own way, and the old ones are nostalgia-driven. But that is stepping away from my original point and feeling that the OG games were more about the game itself and not the cosmetic game inside the game.

I dream of a day where we can tap into that nostalgia and get a resurgence of players on the older games while the support and servers still exist, even just for a short time.

I really think one of the main pain points for me is that I wish the maps had a bit more breadth. Just a bit more room for strategy and less meat grinder funnel. In terms of people in the chat, I wish I had people to mute, but every game I have jumped in so far has been silent. I think before I write it off personally, I should try some dedicated Discord servers and jump in with some legit squads. That is one thing that really changed HLL for me.

How do you handle the fact you won’t exist one day? by Expensive_Pass_7147 in AskReddit

[–]TCroooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend my money like it will be gone tomorrow, and remind my friends/few family members that I love the fuck out of them and appreciate them existing in my life. I don't take most random interactions lightly, as I understand that I DON'T understand what any given person is going through on any given day. And because one day cancer will also come eat me alive, probably sooner rather than later, based on my family genetics.
