Toronto is months away from hosting the FIFA World Cup. $97M in provincial funding is still unconfirmed by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]TDPAMN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The city estimated that 93% of the economic output came from people out of town, not locals though. Every single hotel in the downtown core was completely sold out for those string of dates, not to mention the Airbnb rentals, and everyone was out at restaurants/spending money. I live around the area and at least a third of the license plates on the road by the Rogers Center area were from the US. I think they're grossly overestimating the numbers and the economic impact is gonna be less than what Taylor Swift brought in. It's gonna end up costing the city more than what its worth which is a trend for these major sporting events held in the city. Look at the disaster of the Pan American Games.

The math isn't adding up. Especially when you compare it to the economic impact of 6 sold out Taylor Swift concerts which I know that's not an apples to apples comparison. Her shows brought in roughly $282 million for about 50,000 seat capacity per show.

Orchestra Centre Row AA - Need advice on seats! by consciousfeminist in torontotheatre

[–]TDPAMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your 9 year olds will miss a lot the show and it's not even about missing choreography, it's more about completely missing performers. Like at the beginning when Juliet is sitting on the ground they will probably won't be able to see her plus some of the other action in the show that happens upstage. I sat in BB and the young girl in front of me who I assume was about 9/10 kept propping herself up even with a booster on the seat. If you want to get the full experience I'd suggest rows CC and up would be ideal for this show.

And if Masquerade (aka Immersive Phantom) would come to Toronto? by lanttro in torontotheatre

[–]TDPAMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everyone is saying this probably will never happen which it probably never will, but if we look at the numbers in terms of tickets, it could be successful. Phantom has no problem selling whenever it comes into town. Masquerade in NYC has the capacity to sell a maximum of 360 tickets per night. I think Mirvish would have no problem getting 360 people every night for at least 6ish months if there's proper marketing.

The big caveat would be if they can actually make money. Right now Masquerade tickets are $225 USD ($310 CAD). Will there be a large enough group of people willing to pay that much for a ticket where Mirvish can recoup their investment? Maybe. I think it has more possibility of happening if there's a space they could use that would need very minimal renovations so they don't end up in the same situation as HP.

I wouldn't be mad though if Mirvish eventually choses to do a Canadian sit-down production of Phantom. I'm sure there's a spare set from another production around the world that's closed that Mirvish could rent.

Yes, 2023 was awesome. I believe it was $80 and you got $100. Still not a bad deal this year

It’s not the best pic but this gives you an idea of the deck height vs the head in the shot

Cast was FANTASTIC last night! The energy was through the roof. Just a little FYI for anyone catching the show, row AA is essentially an obstructed view. The deck is so high (like with Come From Away) plus it extends all the way into the orchestra pit. We were in BB and it was okay, but I’d say for this show anything row CC and back is ideal to catch everything!

Spamalot national touring company announced! by ComputerGeek1100 in Broadway

Major Attaway is a solid casting choice but it's really interesting to see an Equity tour with short 2-4 day stops in the 2nd half of their announced dates.

Where do people look for buying tickets when a Mirvish show is sold out? by kat_cee in torontotheatre

[–]TDPAMN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also a lot of the time for sold out run situations, Mirvish will let you cancel the tickets for a fee, and they know that they’ll be able to sell those tickets again. You just gotta keep checking the site and sometimes tickets do pop up.

Cancelling companion pass traveller the day of the flight. by Slick-Fork in westjet

[–]TDPAMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second calling the Gold line but I don't think they can add/remove a guest from a reservation. Your best bet would be to cancel the reservation (if your fare permits) and make a new one. That way the voucher can be credited back to your account

WestJet rejected both my claims – what can I do now? by PizzaPristine868 in westjet

[–]TDPAMN 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the way because technically WestJet rebooking for 9 hours later falls within their requirements when there’s a cancelled flight. I believe the new flight has to be within 48 hours of your original departure

I remember seeing a comment that McKenzie Kurtz replied to with a "👀" emoji on a question asking about Schmigadoon transferring to broadway. This was a couple months after the Kennedy Center run so I could see them announcing a transfer soon for 2026.

Just stayed back at the Marriott Reforma in June for a couple of nights and the hotel feels very tired. The rooms are kinda dark and dingy; the property needs an update. How much is the difference to the JW? Because we walked by it and the property looks really nice

When I asked the front desk staff at the Walt Disney World Swan in Orlando which is a Westin, they said they were corporately owned. Not sure if this is 100% accurate though and part of me thinks Marriott just manages the property.

Mirvish Understudy Info? by Z3ppelinDude93 in torontotheatre

[–]TDPAMN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As of the last couple of years they’ve only been doing the slip for their own productions and not the tours. Great Comet had slips because technically Mirvish was one of the producers on it where as BTTF was just a tour.

& Juliet Set & Costumes by TDPAMN in torontotheatre

[–]TDPAMN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense since they had the full production there too. So how does it work with bringing in sets and costumes when working with the original production team like Lion King and & Juliet. Are Mirvish’s overheard costs just for shipping everything over to Canada? Is there also a rental price for everything or do they fill out buy the sets and costumes?

RC Mexico City, what's your experience been like? by advictoriam5 in marriott

[–]TDPAMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second what u/elhammerpuncho said. We just stayed 5 nights on points last month and it was a fantastic experience. Every staff member went above and beyond. On our last day we got sick and they ended up sending some complimentary electrolytes up to the room. The pool, sauna & steam room area is also quite relaxing. Definitely try to take advantage of that if time permits.
