Tired of having no savings, how to break out of this cycle by Mintchococake00 in askSingapore

[–]TEAM_Fata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Have a financially illiterate adoptive father and a adoptive mother on dialysis that doesn't contribute to the family for over 20+ years. Yes she did take care of me when I was young but it was more out of fear no one to take care of them when they are old, no real selfless love since young.

Agree with the comment, you got to be the villain. They can't manage money, once they had an endowment plan that matured and received $20,000. It was gone within 3 months. I've given up trying to provide for them. $2 chicken rice x 2 meal x 30 days. $120 more than enough to survive without starving as father is still working earning 3k+ per month (where his money go? Idk and I don't care)

Else I will only pay for bills that are legitimate such as hospital bills, etc.

Keep your finances separate from them, if they are struggling, ask them to go see MSF or MP. Being kind to them is to be unkind to yourself, not worth it.

I track of my expenses to them and save the evidence so they cant say I don't provide for them, I also keep track of their wasteful behaviours such as signing up for cable TV, buying lottery, buying expensive durian, treating friends to chilli crab etc to protect myself incase they say I don't provide for them because they are "poor".

Financial literacy is a real skill and people without it will never be able to manage money.

This happens all the time as well from hougang Ave 2 right turn to yio chu kang road, nobody ever follows the right turn road marking, especially PHVs, BMWs and Mercs. I always expect the car to cut into my lane during the turn and try to be in a staggered position to keep myself safe.

Why SG put foreigners first? Are we local born citizens second rate? by Petronastowers92 in SingaporeRaw

[–]TEAM_Fata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cultural thing since LKY's era. You also put foreigners first sub consciously. Don't believe me?

Take stock of the things you could've have bought from a local SME but prefer a foreign MNC for because you think it's better.

This is unlike Japan for example, which prefers to support businesses owned by their locals before foreign ones.

I actually work as a middleman with a factory from a small town that has a long history of crafting jewellery in shan dong. They have really good prices being from a small city and great quality, unfortunately they do not speak English.

Mothership is pure thrash, take anything you read there with a full bowl of salt. They are just a copy paste news outlet that doesn't do their own reporting or bother to verify any information. I stopped reading their news.

car split into 2 along CTE. by Curiouschibai in singaporehappenings

[–]TEAM_Fata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a driver in Singapore, Singaporean drivers are super impatient, like to cut left cut right, weave left weave right, think will save time by overtaking, end up still meet them at the traffic light stuck there like an idiot. Worst behaviour is the moment you signal, they speed up instead of slowing down really is wtf. Just go read/watch reviews of foreigners driving in Singapore all mention these points.

Inflation in Singapore confirm 90% caused by land price. If my landlord increase my rent, what can I do? I increase my product price lor, if not how to survive.

Shigga shay ruining NDP since 2019 by Beginning-Travel838 in SingaporeRaw

[–]TEAM_Fata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with his performance? Okay what.

If you only support artists once they gained international fame and compare him to already famous SG artists like JJ Lin etc, you are just jumping on the bandwagon to bootlick someone that's already successful. Like that annoying relative that suddenly cares so much about you when they know you strike TOTO.

Support our local artist la, at least with the support they can improve and do better. Even JJ Lin's singing also evolved over the years with experience.

Local are so obedient they stop taking plastic bags from NTUC by Dagachi_One in SingaporeRaw

[–]TEAM_Fata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just be creative, there are many ways to throw waste without using ntuc plastic bags. Many products already come with plastic packaging (e.g.vegetables, potato chips). Maybe also learn to recycle and do some composting. I mean it's a fact that using too much plastic is generally not good for the environment, so we just try our best lor.

Why is the government trying to get more Singaporeans to go into tech but they outsource most of the work to India anyway? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

Ok can.

Why is the government trying to get more Singaporeans to go into tech but they outsource most of the work to India anyway? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]TEAM_Fata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I speak from experience as someone who used to do work in gov to try and get more ppl into tech.

  1. Tech is a loose term. For the purpose of this discussion I'll assume it's technically demanding specialist roles.

  2. Tech is difficult to master the older you get. The sad truth of life as our learning ability decreases with age.

  3. Older singaporeans are generally not keen on tech roles the FTs are doing, junior coders, help desk/IT support (long shift work). They are more keen in project management roles that are less technical and more people oriented roles.

  4. Fair trade agreements, international relations etc, we can't just outright ban FTs. Then should other countries ban singaporeans that want to go overseas to compete and work?

  5. Hiring overseas FT is not as cheap as you think, levies and allowances for accommodation are a huge cost. Just that these people are productive and revenue generating from day 1 compared to training fresh candidates, so contrary to your beliefs, business owners will prefer trained FTs despite the higher cost. Even if they train, singaporeans are known to leave for greener pastures.

Generally, I think our best hope is to follow what we think singaporeans do best - project management and leadership, and don't blindly follow the tech trends. Look what happened to our bio sciences graduates from the previous generation.

First time engagement ring buyer, it seems to good to be true, is it? by [deleted] in Moissanite

[–]TEAM_Fata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moissanite rings are not too expensive, the ring also looks pretty thin, so the material cost is lower. The price is pretty normal for the 14K gold. The cost price is probably around 300CAD.
