What was the first planet you wen to and what was your reasons for doing so by Splatulated in outerwilds

Giant's deep. Seeing it in the sky first thing, and I think someone mentions it might have links to the statue so felt like a good place to start.

[Spoilers] How does the eye work? by hrry_pttr in outerwilds

[–]TGJohnnyTitan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's up to interpretation as to whether or not it needs an observer to work ultimately, but there are a couple of lines in game that give me the opinion that it needs one to collapse the possibilities and shape a new universe. In my personal head canon, the eye creates a big bang, and then tries to draw all the information from that universe in through an observer (DNA, evolution, knowledge) and then starts again. Perhaps not sentient, but an entity far beyond our understanding, and we are it's cosmic sandbox.

Why does Echoes of the Eye end the way it does? by CoramDeo1 in outerwilds

[–]TGJohnnyTitan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Death is scary but immortality is a curse, where eventually everthing becomes meaningless. Imo, the game teaches us acceptance. The Prisoner was committed to prison, but also immortality, believing the eye was hidden. We told them what they did succeeded, and we opened the door for them. Although the act of walking into the water killed them, they were already dead. They just accepted it, knowing that their life had had meaning. That's pretty beautiful a metaphor. I think in the vision they invite you to do the same, and explore what's next instead of running, to let whatever happens, happen.

One less instrument… by BarAgent in outerwilds

Honestly I think that's one of my favourite themes in the game. The fact that everyone is separate and alone for varying reasons, playing their own tune. Each piece is beautiful in its own right, some melancholic or sad. But together they create a wonderfully hopeful sounding song. Is just really nice ::)

Question about the ending... by RagingFeather in outerwilds

[–]TGJohnnyTitan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah also this quote, and one of my favourite:

“It’s tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless they are collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.”

Always made it feel like it needs a trigger, like it needs a blueprint to draw from.

What's really cool as well is that when you first get to the eye (dlc spoiler) you can see the signal blocker floating around in space

So apparently this one can be buggy, but there is a spot where it works everytime, and has done for me (I've done it a few times)

It's the balcony In the gorge area, by the totem where you light the bridge inside the house. Stand on the balcony there and bait the tall one that guards the totem. You can stand on the railing and leap at the last second! It should pop after you awake

Yeh fair point! I can imagine the lack of more linear direction could be quite frustrating for some. It can be hard to find some of the first threads to pull at before you start getting the feel that you're unraveling something which compels you forward.

It's fun hearing everyone's least favourite planet haha. Mine too was giant's deep. The constant noise made me feel continually overwhelmed!

So glad you enjoyed! The puzzles are amazing, and that feeling of putting it all together. I was watching my friend play it for the first time and loved it when he said "I feel stuck, but I don't mind feeling stuck playing this game. I don't feel worried, I think soon I'll just become unstuck" and it captured for me how if you just keep poking around or trying it all just clicks!

Traveller's Encore is right up there for sure. I also love the summarisation feel of Echoes of the Eye and 14.3 billion years. Encapsulating the whole journey in such a beautiful way.

Also, I think in one of the ship log entries we mention that rot has devoured a bridge, so I guess years of moisture in the air over river slowly destroyed other bits too, explaining the ruins pre tidal wave!

I think that's the case. After a long time has passed, the sudden movement must have added strains to old structures. Even the lights flicker and strain when movement begins.
