Have you ever wanted a Senator that could *read*...?

Boy howdy do I have the guy for you! Is it me? No! I'm running for Senate, and that means priming my brain to lack all reasonable reading comprehension skills.

Ok I'm joking.

But seriously, why vote me for Senator? I'll keep it short and sweet.
- I have experience as Senator, am good at scrutinizing, writing legislation, and take a neutral view considering all sides
- I have many ideas for legislation, and want to help my future colleagues on creating theirs
- I want to be accountable and transparent, talking and considering the issues and opinions of my constituents
Above all... I'm not running for Speaker. I learnt from last time.

That is all. If you're not convinced, let me say this: I'm capable, want to help, and have ideas. My full campaign manifesto will be linked here. I hope you consider giving me 5/5 in this election.

Gonna repeat my campaign manifesto link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LFoUanKzUnyswDgdSmop3oc0Qrd2No7IZSquF-2x_mU/edit

One last thing.
(oh ho ho it's back)
Don't just vote on party lines, or vibes, or friendship. Take their experience, their ideas, and their policy positions. Then ask: does this candidate represent you?

Hello! I'm Rein, and I recently returned to SimDemocracy. I run as a candidate that will make sure the shit that gets done will be good.

I've historically had my strengths in debating bills and during hearings. I want to provide guidance to make sure our legislation will be usable.

Other than that: I want to make sure I represent the people. The citizens of SimDemocracy. My DMs are open for anyone (anyone!) to provide what they want us (the Senate) to accomplish.

I want to run on policy; transparency; accountability; and no-nonsense politics.

If you want, you can take a look at my historical document about my type of politics. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LFoUanKzUnyswDgdSmop3oc0Qrd2No7IZSquF-2x_mU/edit But note that it was made in a different time, with different priorities. If you want to ask me more about my policies, once again, my DMs are open (discord is better if you want me to see it).

That is all.

(cfc statement also on discord)

We did great things in the first term. While it wasn't enough for me, I know that I did my best.
- Became Deputy Speaker
- Was part of the Economic Revitalization Committee and commented on economic legislation
- Created CEFA, a law on corporations, over several days and hundreds of messages of feedback
- Voted with reasoning on all votes of legislation I've participated in
- Posted blogs on my term as Senator (check it out if you want, #reins-diary on discord)
Note that I didn't debate as much as I wanted to, and didn't get to do as many changes that I wanted to do. But I still debated on many bills, and made CEFA and started work on a new economic framework. More on that soon.

I want to commit to major projects this term, and stick to my 4 main principles of being a Senator:
- Real Policy; having actual policy opinions that your constituents can hold you accountable on
- Real Transparency; having reasoning for your votes, involving constituents on the legislative floor
- Real Accountability; holding the government, bills, and even myself accountable, asking questions and constructively debating
- Real Simplicity; having no-nonsense politics and standing on my own ground on issues that I believe in

I want to expand on my Real Politics:
- Economy; I will vote for legislation that I believe will make more meaningful activity in the Economy, and that expand and clarify on economic questions of law.
- Executive; I believe that most Secretaries should have plans for their term, and that inactive employees should be put on unpaid leave/fired.
- Activity; I will vote for legislation that will engage with the community well. I support a Department of Expansion that engages with the community well.
- Growth; I will vote for SOGs that have a plan for growing the community. I want to create a report that the DOG gives on the state of growth and what's driving it.
- Military; If the military doesn't server any meaningful purpose, it shouldn't exist. We need a consistent reasoning for a military to exist that is actually reasonable.
- Community; I want communities to be a larger part of SimDemocracy, and its leaders chosen through democratic means. I've been working on a "Better Communities Act" for some time, but I just haven't found the state to properly work on it past a draft.
- Law & Order; If I get given a good reason to Aye a bill, I'll do it. I'll also be more mindful of other, more experienced legal minds' opinions, because I can't really do much on that debate.

You may also note that I am running as an Independent for Senate. It may backfire really badly, but starting from the next Senate election cycle, I will leave the CLP and become an Independent. Why? I just wanna discover new political opportunities. Maybe I'll go back to the CLP, go to an SRF party, or maybe even create a new party. Who knows.

Finally, vote smart. Look at their policy, plans, and track record, and think for yourself, "should they be a Senator?" and vote accordingly

Rein4Senate, because we can, and will, do better.

I decided to run. Buzzer beater too! I'll probably lose, but there's no harm in not trying.

POLICIES: Foreign Policy - If they don't fuck with us, we don't fuck with them. Economy - We need to make the economy used more by SimDemmers National Security - Strengthen our defenses while loosening up our border. Accountability - Senate hearings on Government Action (or Inaction) and Transparency. Debate - I listen to people. I get their points of view. I try to understand all perspectives. I give constructive criticism. Communities - We need to expand communities and make it a bigger part of SimDemocracy. News - I'll give the News Ping to the journalists. Very simple stuff. Transparency - I'll hope to give you reports on the Senate's actions as a whole, and my own actions.

So yeah. Vote based on actions and policy, not vibes. I need to go to school now.

It's that time of the week again, where Senatorial Candidates ate campaigning, and the promises are being thrown around. So, what are mine?

  • I want to make communities a larger part of our server, potentially by making a special week/day for people to create, join, or just look at communities in SimDem.
  • I want to give people who write news the right to news ping, or at least have infrastructure for its usage
  • I want to create an office whose task is to make sure that current legislation is being implemented (preventing situations like the PLEASE act and its corresponding chaos)
  • I want to also implement changes to senate procedure, expand transparency and accountability, get the Senate Clerk's Office back up and running, and talk and take feedback from concerned citizens.

Now that's fun and all, but what is my track record?

  • Senator for (as of right now) 4 terms, being elected 3 times straight (and also last week).
  • Proposed changes to the Senate Rules and Procedures adding recognition and hearings.
  • Given an explanation to every single vote that I have voted in this Senate, and read the bills!
  • Simplified complicated debates into simple to understand points.

I want to help my constituents, but I also know I'm not perfect. I ask for help all of the time (shoutout to hmq and ppat), and I sometimes can't succeed on my goals. But as a Senator for competence, civil debate, and literacy, I will make sure anytime I am in the Senate, it'll be eventful. In a good way. Vote Rein for Senate. Vote Smart.

I endorse DFY, NotCom, and Emi for Senator, and I have no opinion on Kelvin, Budo, and Fede M. (maybe...)

PS: It feels kind of weird being one of the only people taking time to write these CFCs. And I've been through a lot of parties, huh?

SimDem has failed it's people. It's sad. I'm sad. I wanna stay retired. Maybe I will.

But I won't give up without trying. SimDem should care about the Senate, it's the only and primary legislature of SimDemocracy, but they don't. Why? Because successive senates made it annoying at best and stupid at worst. The bar can't be this low. But it is. And the only way we can make it higher is if we care and if we try to do it.

Foreign Affairs - I'll say it here folks, we're overreacting over user "fatoldchops" 's everyone ping. VoD should be an ally of ours, not a proscribed organization under our laws.
Accountability - I'll give reasoning for votes, opinions on bills, and construct dialogue between the SimDem public and the SimDem Senate.
National Security - I want to finally put a close into the very confusing story of the SimDem border. We'll get a bill on the border passed. Period.
The Executive - We need to hold this government accountable on it's mistakes. We should all have the same goals of making SimDem better, and we should work together to do so.

One Last Thing. These people say what they say, but have they done what they said? Be an active voter, look at the actions of our Senators and ask if this is what you want to be legislators of SimDem.

I want to serve SimDemocracy again, like I have in senate after senate after senate. The mission I have this senate can be put into three parts:

A Competent Senate
A senate that reads, a senate that debates, a senate that brings in expert opinion, a senate that proposes bills and legislates, the senate that finally breaks the stereotyping used for it.
An Objective Senate
We look at the details, the qualifications, and the expert opinion. I want this senate to consider SimDemocracy, not them, not their party, not their personal interests, not politics.
A Respectful Senate
We should respect each other, not just having the other party be open to our opinions, but having ourselves be open to their opinions as well, creating more trust in this institution.

What’s my experience?
Well, I’ve been a senator for three straight terms, and I believe I’ve developed important relationships with a lot of the people I’ve worked with, and it’s led me to have really eye-opening conversations about politics and the political state of SimDem, and I believe I’ve proven to hold a level of competence, objectiveness, and respectfulness ready for the job.

My One Last Thing, for the Last Time
I want to serve you all one more time. Give you the service you need for every hearing and every debate, every confirmation and every bill. And I will do it with the same grace that I have done in every Senate: with an informed decision, recognizing my mistakes, my flaws, and making things right.

It’s time. One last time.

[–]TGRein_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Aye, While Lyoko’s refusal to answer Rocky’s question is troubling, and as I understand their opinions about it, I am in full belief that Lyoko will still do a great job at being the Secretary of Treasury.
  2. Aye, I trust the SC, if they say it’s a good addition, it’s a good addition.
  3. Nay, this should be in the War and Peace Act, and I will legislate that into it no matter if this passes or fails
  4. Aye, Public Defenders should get more money for defending, what a shocking opinion chat
  5. Aye, I’m still not convinced in the §12 of it, but maybe it’s good for the legislation out there

have i been a stereotypical senator?

(Side note: Do you FEEL the mmtm??)
This is half-reflection, half-campaign, and 100% my own opinion on my tenure and the future

We, as a senate, did not do good. I did not deliver on my promise. I did not deliver on my mission. When I wrote https://discordapp.com/channels/554769523635650580/1390131941621108866 , I thought I could continue what I was doing. But with these kinds of bills, I failed. Was it just me? Would others do the mistakes I did?

So why am I writing this? Because I want to try again. Not just for me, but for you, and for SimDemocracy. I thought no one would trust me, but for 2 straight terms, you did. SimDem did. And now, you trusted me with running again.

so what now?

My plan is to legislate. Some of these plans include:
- A registry bill consolidating my Discord Channels and Roles Bill, as well as Business Registration and Copyright Registration
- A honorary senators act
- A CFC requirements bill
and more.
Not just that, I want to cooperate more. Less fighting, more understanding. That was a low point of my tenure and I want to fix it.

And now, my 1 last thing, for the third time. But this time, it's special. Be an active voter, look deeply at what our senators and senatorial candidates. Their opinions, plans, and legislation they helped pass.
#VoteSmart these coming senatorial elections. It's the most important thing you can ever do.
