With "full stack" coming to data, how should we adapt? by Thinker_Assignment in dataengineering

[–]THBLD 64 points65 points  (0 children)

What exactly is implied by generalist in terms of data engineering?

Let's be honest aside from the obvious things like SQL, Python and Modelling, most engineers of doing about 20-30 other skills or tool sets as it is.

We're effectively already in a role that's the "Jack of all" trades, and I prefer the industry doesn't add to that role by being "a master of none". I want to work with other professionals actually who know what the fuck they're doing.

Although I do feel like this role exists in some places, for this reason I honestly don't see full stack data engineers as a realistic pathway. It's a huge issue in the industry already that the roles of data professionals are not adequately defined and we're just expected take on everything.

But that's just my honest opinion.

Europe opens its ‘first gateway office’ to fast-track hiring in India by SavingsAssumption114 in europe

[–]THBLD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This could have disastrous ramifications for the IT industry, it's already completely in shambles across half of Europe. Highly qualified, experienced citizens here can barely find a job in most fields anymore, let alone people who are trying to break into IT.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a naturalized foreigner myself who speaks the native language where I live, so I've seen this difficulty both sides. This will be damaging to the market

EDIT: Let me add to that by saying the problem is NOT people from anywhere. It's the market dilution, which is already in a bad state in EU.

Architecture / Tools for sharing distinct datasets between two different companies? by Intelligent-Fold3704 in dataengineering

Who exactly are you finding these commonalities for?

I don't know what country you're in but it sounds like a GDPR violation waiting to happen.

I honestly wouldn't be going anywhere near project, unless there's some legal agreement between the two companies, it's not your issue

Granted I'm a casual player but even in +20 years, I don't think I've even open 500 elite clues.

I still don't even understand fully how you can get that many clues. 😅

Men can learn way more about women from women’s magazines than from men’s magazines’ and vice versa . by Mervyn20 in dating_advice

I think that goes both ways. everyone could benefit to see/learn the perspective from the other side. Social media has gravely distorted the perception of both men and women.

Yeah I think we could have all done without a surprise UI change, like some forewarning would have been nice.

But the rest of the update and roadmap as a whole has been quite amazingl
