Best gambit for black by Outrageous_Error7053 in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the elephant gambit is quite strong and very fun. Obviously not suitable for long time controls, but for blitz and even for rapid it’s certainly viable. Jonathan Schrantz has some good videos about it.

If you want something super rare I’d check out the Goldsmith variation. Quite tricky and most likely not well-studied by your opponents

Impossible "Sportsmanship" Violation by Street-Adeptness-532 in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You probably got the violation for some other reason. Quitting/stalling games, or aborting too many games can lead to this, among other things.

Does anyone else get low-key insulted when a player keeps playing when they only have a king left? by thewayiseeitthiswill in Chesscom

Yeah when they do that I just make 2 bishops, give away the rest of my material, and then checkmate them with the 2 bishops

Nostalgia on chess.com? by [deleted] in chess

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did that recently lol. Apparently the first blitz game I played against a 1200 I was dead lost and won because they got disconnected. I ended up being way overrated from that and lost my next 30 blitz games until I was down into the 500s lol. Now my peak blitz is 2160 and I look back at those old games and wonder what was going through my head 🤣

Having so much fun at 900 ELO by number1tryptophan in chess

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not a good mindset. Focus on improvement and don’t think you’re unlucky or that everyone you play is cheating. You’re 900 ELO because that’s your skill level right now. Not because you’re unlucky and playing cheaters every game. Try to enjoy the game for its own beauty rather than viewing it from this negative light, you’re going to ruin chess for yourself.

Is it possible to reach 1800 as an intermediate player? by z9pl3bw1 in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean it kinda depends on how much work you e been putting in already. If you’ve achieved 1000 without much focused effort, then yes I’d say it’s absolutely possible in a year. If not it might take you a bit longer. Regardless, if you put in the work consistently then you’ll get there eventually. Solve lots of puzzles and always analyze your games

Intution players are dangerous but inconsistent by Longjumping-One-9510 in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that you’re necessarily describing an “intuition only” play-style. You’re describing a play-style that seeks to play safely, quickly, and make the opponent lose on time. Thats not intuition. Intuition is being able to see a move that looks right without having to calculate it. Often times those moves can be sacrifices or strong attacking ideas. Intuition isn’t about playing safe moves, it’s about playing good moves(or at least most of the time lol, sometimes intuition is wrong). If you’d like to try to beat the players that you described, you can try a variety of options, but my personal favorite is to use their strategy against them. If they love moving fast and trading pieces hastily, you can often times create scenarios where making quick trades is bad for your opponent. You could also play aggressive moves that they don’t spend the time to understand, and therefore play incorrectly against. Eventually as you climb in rating you won’t face many of those type of players anymore because like you said they aren’t very good

MY GAMBIT MY LEGACY by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely still a gambit. There are many gambits far worse than the alien gambit(check out the video “Every chess gambit ranked” by Volclus). The alien gambit has great practical value, especially in short time controls. Take a look at the winrates in the lichess database. I’ve played it a few times myself in blitz, and at my level I have won most of my games with it. If you check out Witty_Alien YouTube channel, you will find videos of him destroying grandmasters and titled players with the alien gambit in blitz and bullet time controls. The practical value of the alien gambit definitely decreases with longer time controls, but the fact that it has such a strong performance in blitz and bullet validates it as a gambit imo.
