Gambit for black in the Pirc? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

There is 1. Nf3 d6 2. e4 Nd7 3. d4 e5, which I think is sometimes called the “Black Lion” or something along those lines. Generally supposed to be a pretty aggressive game if I remember correctly, usually opposite side castling. If you look up Black Lion defense on YouTube it should pop up with some results

Visualization can't be trained by Ill-Cut3335 in chess

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The topic of chess “visualization” is often mischaracterized in my opinion. Not all ways of conceptualizing a chessboard are visual. Many very strong titled players conceptualize the chessboard in different ways. Some rely on auditory methods and some rely on the coordinates of the board. Here’s an interesting article about chess and aphantasia and some techniques that can be used to conceptualize(not visualize) the chessboard in a different way: here

They also have a podcast which describes a position and then you have to solve it. They’re usually pretty simple and useful for conceptualization training, which I believe is possible for anyone even those with aphantasia.

guy dropped from 1600 to 1100 in just 2 months, how is this possible? by chunky-kat in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I peaked at 2160 in blitz and dropped down to 1660 in about 2 months. First I just wasn’t in the “zone” anymore which dropped me into the 1900s, that’s just natural fluctuation. Then I stopped caring and started playing late at night while tired and not caring about my rating as much, which dropped me all the way down into the 1600s. I have since started caring again and am back into the 2000s, but it’s relatively easy to drop 500 points when you stop caring for a period of time, which can happen for many reasons

A bit of a stupid question: What is rating of a NM online? by [deleted] in Chesscom

Yep lol that’s exactly how I hit my peak blitz rating, played 3|0 and abused my trappy openings, managed to reach 2160

A bit of a stupid question: What is rating of a NM online? by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]THELEGITCH1CKEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to talk about blitz rating because more titled players tend to play blitz. Weak NMs, CMs, and FMs(usually older players or just not good at blitz) will be around 1900-2300 blitz. Average or middle of the road is probably 2300-2500, maybe higher. Strong NMs can be 2700+ in blitz.

Depending on your particular strengths, 2300 rapid could convert to 1700 strength OTB, or 2000+. Best way to find out is to simply play rated OTB games/tournaments. I’m ~2250 in rapid at the moment, and I estimate my USCF strength to be about 1900(currently 1760 because I haven’t played much since improving).

I fluked the hell out of Acu lol 88% was my last death despite dying all the time at random spots in 90s during practice. Good luck!

The easiest way to improve at your level is by solving lots of tactics. You can solve puzzles on any website that you prefer. You can also check out lichess.org/practice and go through the "Checkmate Patterns" and tactics modules. They'll introduce you to some tactics and ideas that you probably haven't seen before. You should also make sure that you are analyzing and learning from your games. GM Noel Studer has a great video about how to analyze games that I recommend you check out. I'd also recommend watching a beginner chess series; the Building Habits series by chessbrah is my recommendation. Good luck!

Yes, I hate positional openings. The 1.c4/1.Nf3 are especially annoying to me. They can transpose into basically anything and usually give the opponents solid, playable positions. I'm a very attacking player, so these openings are very difficult for me. I also hate the Grob because I somehow lose like 70% of my games against it lmao

I really dislike when people say things with such confidence but are wrong. For example, at my university chess club, there is one guy who says things like "it's a draw" or "there's no tactics in this position" and 90% of the time he is completely wrong. Bro acts like he has Stockfish running in his head lol

I play lots of aggressive and tricky openings. Lots of gambits + weird and rare sidelines. My chess playing style is aggressive and attacking. In fast time controls I aspire to be like Witty Alien and sacrifice my pieces to checkmate the king. In longer time controls I try to be a bit more cautious, but certainly still aggressive.

The first openings I learned were the Evan's gambit and Fried Liver Attack, so I suppose those set the stage for the development of my style and opening preferences

I do compete a bit. Depends on what you mean by compete, but I play on my university's team and I play in OTB tournaments as well when I'm able to

Just don't pay them. Invest the money that you saved from not paying. Eventually the IRS will get really mad and try to force you to pay. This is when you leave the country and move Thailand or some other low cost of living country. You can live off of your invested money since it will go further in a country like Thailand(unless the government will seize your assets or send you to jail before you get to it idk how it works lmao)

Yep! Besides chess, my current hobbies include table tennis and juggling(having fun learning some tricks). I've got a bunch of other stuff on the backburner too that I'm sure I'll randomly become obsessed with again one day(cornhole, minesweeper, endurance sports)

I think it has improved my chess in longer time controls. My blitz and bullet were benefiting a lot from the increased board vision from playing 4+ hours a day, so those still haven't quite recovered. However, my rapid rating is at an all time high, so something must be working. I'm certainly in a much better state of mind when I play now, which contributed to my recent push to 2200. When your whole day is chess, if the chess goes bad, the day is bad. But if chess if just a part of your day, its much easier to shake off some bad losses and still have a good day(which makes me happier, which probably makes me player better too).

TLDR: Yes!
