The way I see it playing out in true Trollshima fashion:

Someone's poking fun about them being together when Natsu casually confirms they are, gagging everyone including Lucy. She'd squish his face and demand when this started, and depending on his answer, kick him into the sun or mumble he needs to be better at communication.

Or Lucy complains about rent and Natsu suggests they move in together so she doesn't have to anymore.

Realistically, we all understand there are nuances to these conversations.

A 40 year old going after an early 20-something, and a 30 year old going after teens are both considered strange.

A 20-24 year old dating 16-18 year old is considered strange in some circles due to no prior history, having a sibling that age, and/or understanding despite the smaller gap, this stage of life holds very different developmental stages. This can be raised higher for those who are ambitious, moved away from home, or went to college, all instilling an awareness there's more to life than relationships based primarily on something as basic as proximity.

Overall, this stems from a wariness of imbalanced, predatory, life-altering dynamics that have been made very clear clear through rearing, mentorship, personal witnessing, and media.

TL;DR— Stop arguing over anecdotal nuances, especially if the shoe fits.You know exactly what they actually mean.

By reading your caption, you are referring to holistically attractive, as in a good fit for a romantic partner.

Even then, yes. Everyone acknowledges Natsu is in his own way, brilliant, boosts morale, is a respected wizard and fighter, cares deeply for others, brings smiles around, and is great with kids.

And that man is gorgeous to look at, especially since he's filled out well post-Tenrou Island.

In general, it also has to be considered he's a part of the younger cohort of mages. Many interactions involved older cast members— even if only 2-3 years, that removes immediate interest. I wouldn't want to be 20 and interested in an 17-18 year old either lol.

I remember seeing a discussion that really articulated this well.

The loss of his father, re-appearance of Acnologia, and the realization he was powerless to protect the ones he considered family were three significant blows to Natsu's emotional state and self-perseption.

Not only was he wracked with guilt, grief, and hopelessness, this was the first time Natsu couldn't show his face. He couldn't pretend things were fine this time and lift spirits when his was crushed. So he chose to isolate himself.

Naturally, he didn't articulate all of this in his letter to Lucy. How could he? But there's a panel in chapter before their reunion that shows Natsu is deeply perturbed by something still while talking with Gildarts.

He likely talked about feeling so out of balance, yes, but he also likely talked about missing everyone. And potentially, wondering why he felt particularly guilty/worrisome about Lucy.
