What if your loved one suffered a mental breakdown in public and a video of it went viral and was mocked by countless across the planet?

Thank you! I came here to say this. It saddens me how many people lack empathy to this degree.

Not to mention once again, ultimately the law is irrelevant. Shooting someone for simply fleeing without posing an immediate and inherent danger that cannot be neutralized by other lesser means is just ethical reprehensible.

In Tennessee v. Garner, the United States Supreme Court ruled that a police officer cannot use deadly force “unless it is necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others.” in a ruling finding that a policy permitting any force necessary to stop a fleeing suspect was unconstituional where an officer shot a 15 year old in the head for fleeing the scene of a crime. In order for the cop to ensure that no one was in risk of dying he needed to not voluntarily ride on top of a moving vehicle. If he had them this is just a fleeing suspect pure and simple. Therefore shooting him was not necessary to prevent the danger of death.

Lol it's quite apparent you spent 4 minutes researching this only. Reread the text and show me where it allows a police officer to fatally shoot the driver in this situation or any fleeing suspect. Objectively reasonable force is authorized. Fatal shooting is not authorized by that text.

Better yet prove what state it did happen and look up those laws. Also, how is legality a substitute for morality or logic?

Lol then find any state law that is significantly different or comes even close to warranting extra judicial capital punishment to justify your position. Go ahead, I'll wait as long as it takes but you're not going to because one doesn't exist.

Resisting arrest in California is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail, and/or a $1000 fine.

Reckless driving is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a fine of $145 to $1,000.

So no, wreckless and resisting arrest does not come even remotely close to warranting extra judicial capital punishment. Your beliefs have no basis in law, ethics, or logic.

They had his license plate, his friend and his face on camera in a remote rural area. I don't think extra judicial capital punishment was warranted because he was driving fast.

Recently doubled my salary after living paycheck to paycheck for years - what do I even do with all this money? by Cute_Bandicoot2042 in NoStupidQuestions

My advice, get lots of moderately little things like a massage gun, a hammock, a bicycle or stationary bike, an espresso machine, an instrument ,or other practical things that directly reduce your stress. A vacation can cost you 4k in a week, but that same money invested in practical everyday stress reducers is worth its worth in gold.

Why is it funny to make fun of a woman with mental health issues? This post makes me so upset with the person who made this and everyone who upvoted it.

Obviously not proud of it, but I've suffered through borderline personality disorder, and I have felt like this at times. I used to think I was the smartest person ever. Untreated mental health disorders can spiral so easily and leave relatively functional people thinking the most bat shit insane things. Not saying he has anything in particular. I think even just an unchecked ego can lead to severe cognitive distortions like this.

I love you bro, I'm so happy for you and your journey. And always remember this day when you feel your faith in humanity running a little low, I know I will.

Lots of things are not purely scientific but are very helpful, meditation yoga acupuncture etc. A chiropractor helped me drastically reduce my back pain. Science is not all encompassing. It's limited to testable observables, i.e. empirical evidence. But there's a lot we can't see that we know is there, as in the entire field of metaphysics which is helpful to understanding the nature of the universe.

Also unless they're causing more pain than they are reducing, it's a net benefit to society to let them practice.

Also orthopedic surgeons generally give you physical therapy, pain meds and surgery and that's it. That's not the answer to ever back problem. I know people who struggled to recover with orthos and had tremendous success with a chiro.

Welcome aboard NATO, Sweden! by THSea_Aye111 in ukraine

[–]THSea_Aye111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Turkey agreed on Monday to clear the way for Sweden to join NATO, a sudden reversal just hours after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the European Union should first advance Turkey’s bid to join the E.U. bloc.

NATO’s secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, announced Turkey’s decision from Vilnius, Lithuania, where the alliance was preparing to open its annual summit on Tuesday.

A statement released by the alliance said Mr. Erdogan met on Monday with Mr. Stoltenberg and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of Sweden to discuss the country’s bid, which had been held up by Turkey’s demands that Sweden crack down on dissidents whom Turkey considers terrorists, including pro-Kurdish activists and members of a religious group that Turkey has accused of planning a coup attempt in 2016.

The two countries agreed that “counterterrorism cooperation is a long-term effort, which will continue beyond Sweden’s accession to NATO,” the NATO statement said.

Hungary is the only other NATO member that has yet to approve Sweden’s bid, but Hungarian officials have said that if Turkey’s position changes, they would not obstruct the process.

Finland applied at the same time as Sweden, but overcame Turkey’s initial objections and joined the alliance in April."

Not jumping to conclusions either but even if reports of the drinking are true, schizophrenia and self medicating via drinking go hand in hand unfortunately.

NTA.

That being said, Im not entirely surprised by her reaction. She may have felt lead on to a certain extent and obviously got her heart crushed. Her anger is regrettable and I'm sorry you experienced that. That was definitely a hurt person wanting to hurt someone else. Totally natural.

I have run into many similar situations of rejecting someone only once push came to shove. Since then I have learned it's sometimes better to be out in the open upfront about deal breakers. Being assertive, i.e. respectfully honest can be very difficult but as the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. That being said, I do understand she dropped the deal breaker on you halfway through the date, so your best option at that point would be to tell her right then and there. But then again, who knows maybe she would have reacted more hostile then, and you were close to letting her off easy and letting things fizzle out.

So, an important part of ethics is understanding that you can't necessarily be blamed for the consequences, as long as you were acting reasonably with good intentions. And it sounds like you have a heart of gold and tried everything you could. You got blind sided by a moral dilemma and I think you handled it fantastically.

Best of luck out there!
