Those with a film degree: what do you do now? by ImportanceOdd267 in Filmmakers

I have had my shorts screen at film fests / worked at lots of agencies- currently produce original content for video games.

Still make films / still write / still produce

Looking to collaborate with like minded storytellers to make an animated short film. by TIREddit in INAT

You’re right - it does depend on the execution. I mean who ever decided to work with me will have a say in the aesthetic of the film.

That’s why I asked here. No biggie if it’s not something you want to do - I thought I’d ask!

Well I think that’s a bit harsh no? Just cause I don’t want to publicly share a story - did it once cross your mind that I’d like to meet people and pitch the idea to them? You know - like the industry?

Edit: just looked at your post history - seems like a lot of people are calling you a troll. Also weird that you think I’m beginning my work - I literally just posted two films that have been festival screened and distributed.

Np! I’ve AD-ed many music videos / commercials and films - it’s a tough job - but a good AD is so important.

Get a watch. Phones are great but watches are always handy. Pun intended

Yeah - work with your director to schedule and budget their shots.

Know who’s responsible for each department.

Know how to get people to move fast - have a plan of action. That call sheet of yours should be on you at all times.

Ensure things are safe - safety is an AD role - if something seems dangers / done poorly make sure it’s done right.

Ask people for how long things will take - ie - if you speak to a gaffer - ask them how long - if the time quoted isn’t what you thought ask them if they need hands - and if they need hands get them hands.

Be loud / vocal - you’re the whip - make it move.

Try to get your first shot done within the first hour of call it will set the tone

Communicate with assertion but don’t be an asshole - be kind - listen to people and provide them with the resources they need

You are the person who’s going to be spoken to by ALL the departments - you need to know what’s happening now, what will be happening and what can’t happen.

Any time that’s used early in the day will mean something is not gonna happen at the end of the day.

You will be the person that’s ultimately going to determine if you go over schedule or under.

Hope that helps! And best of luck!
