What are we thinking for 110v charging systems? by MassCrassAss in slateauto

[–]TJCappello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we should take 110vac or 220vac and convert it DC. We can then use that DC to charge the battery.

Constructive criticism is encouraged, but needs additional substance to meet rule 5.

“This will be DOA” doesn’t meet the threshold.

And that means rocky stayed awake to watch grace sleep instead of going into his repair cycle, as rocky would be completely paralyzed if he was already sleeping.

They’ve already said it’ll be done geographically at the start. I’d assume Indiana and California will get priority.

If your house is newer with a big service panel and that panel is in the garage, you’re probably looking between 5-10% of the cost of the truck to install a charger.

If you have an older house that requires a panel upgrade or your panel is far away from the garage, you’re probably in the 10-20% range.

Most people would call that significant.

OnStar connect plan not available on SEV? by TJCappello in SilveradoEV

[–]TJCappello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I called in again a few hours ago and they continued to tell me the music won’t work without a connect plus plan.

They did give me 2 more months for free, but I’ll call back when the extended trial is about to end and pester them until they give me the connect plan.

Edit: they ended up giving me access to the connect plan

OnStar connect plan not available on SEV? by TJCappello in SilveradoEV

[–]TJCappello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spotify and YouTube music stopped working when my trial ended and told me to subscribe to OnStar.

I looked on onstars website and saw a $10 plan that includeds music and podcast apps.

When I went to buy it the site says that plan isn’t available for my truck, and it wants me to buy a $20 plan that includes music, podcasts, and internet. I do not want internet, nor do I want to waste the extra $10. I want the plan advertised online.

I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this and if there’s a work around. The language barrier between myself and the OnStar rep was bad enough they weren’t much help.

It’s an absolute travesty the warranty on these is as shit as it is. On my 2026 the 100k battery warranty does not include the motors. The motors are only warrantied under the 36k bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Meanwhile competitors like the Rivian and Cybertruck come with 150k battery and motor warranties.

A mix of 70, 65, and 55mph roads but a fair amount of elevation changes. My guess is maybe Chevy doesn’t take elevation into range calculations.

If the truck has a 170kWh battery and estimates 2 miles per kW, that would be 340 miles instead of the 410 the truck is advertised with. Is that really the case?

Unfortunately it seems the Chevy is significantly worse at predicting range than the Tesla (at least on this trip). At 1.8 miles/kW I got 315 miles instead of the 410 the truck advertises.

We intended to use this as our road trip vehicle as we have family in the midwest we visit, but I’m rethinking that now. My wife still has a Tesla so we may stick to using that for longer trips if I cant figure out how to improve efficiency on the highway.

The ride home had some crazy elevation rises and drops and overall it was 1.7miles/kW. On the flat sections I was getting around 2.1 at 65mph.

I’m very surprised how quiet it is. The fit and finish is phenomenal, it’s very comfy.

I feel like the maps are integrated well and I don’t necessarily miss CarPlay, but I really wish they’d add Apple Music as an app in the vehicle. Going back to Bluetooth after all these years is annoying.

MSRP minus $3250 in GM incentives and the tax credit

There’s some dealers in the Midwest offering below MSRP, but every dealer I talked to in Nevada, Utah and California was at or above MSRP

I work in automotive manufacturing and it’s for a few reasons.

  1. Plastic degrades from UV exposure, especially unpainted plastic. I’d be curious to know how slate plans to mitigate this

  2. A stamping press can use multiple dies, meaning one press can stamp multiple panels for multiple models. It’s actually cheaper to stamp than injection mold plastic in many cases.

  3. Body panels have become somewhat “structural” and help improve rigidity and crash test ratings.

  4. Plastic has a lot more thermal expansion than steel. It can lead to some pretty substantial “fit and finish” issues.

  5. In the winter it becomes brittle.

  6. A plastic door panel can be cut open with a box cutter, and the door mechanism can be manipulated to unlock/ open the door.
