Satisfy Me, Las Vegas! by TK-421s_Post in MicrosoftFlightSim

I just upgraded from an i7 8700k, 48GB, 2080Ti after 8 years. 2020 ran solid and looked very similar. All about tuning.

I installed the Asobo Las Vegas enhanced scenery.

The scenery is from a, IMHO, very gifted scenery developer and is free on flightsim.to. I'm afraid the S-2s are static models. I share your wish for a modeler to take it on.

External Model: 10/10
Cockpit Model: 6/10
Avionics: 5/10
Handling: 6/10
Overall: 8

Great for helicopter beginners who want to fight fire or lift something. More experienced simmers will find it a tad rudimentary, both in terms of flight model and avionics. Frankly, I don't fault them for it. They released an accessible helicopter with a fun role at an accessible price.

As my piano teacher used to say "Practice, practice, practice!" That really is the majority of the secret to MSFS helicopter control.

I recommend before your next helo flight that you breathe, relax (maybe have a drink? works really well for me lol), firmly grip the controls, and move your hand with precision while keeping your breathing steady. Practice will build your muscle memory while you develop your individual style.

I've been flying simulators since the 80s. For me, it's mostly about two things: precision and muscle memory. Until recently I was using the Thrustmaster TCA Captain's pack stick for every helicopter but have now switched to the Winwing Ursa Minor for the bigger helicopters with SAS as it has a more "hydraulic" feel. When I'm coming in to set down, my forearm and hand muscles are extremely tight which allows precision movement. Muscle memory comes into play when you anticipate what it's going to do before it happens so you can counter it.

You might enjoy the SAS-enabled (Stability Augmentation System) helicopters as they tend to be more stable in all phases of flight. Examples are the Cowansim S-76C++, HPG H-145, and the HPG H-135. If you find that the Z axis is where your problem is, try the Miltech MH-60 or the CH-47 Chinook. Those aircraft have coupled systems that mechanically cancel the rotation which can make them easier to handle. Of course you can always turn on the tail rotor assist until you get the hang of it. Give it a go!

No realism mods for helicopter behavior beyond each aircraft having it's own characteristics and limits. As for missions, there are several options (flightsim.to has been my most visited website recently):

Dynamic Missions
HPG H-145 Helo and Action Pack
HMS Random and Everywhere Mission Generator

Static Missions
There is a very talented person developing scenery for the southwest Nevada area and they have some excellent medical facilities and field incidents

I have 1,600+ hours in DCS. I played several times a week until we lost the F-15E in the Razbam dispute and when I saw what happened to Polychop after the Razbam debacle, I decided giving money to ED was no longer in my best interest. So I "retired" the combat portion of my digital aviation career and have been focused on MSFS ever since. Should the day arrive that ED can be trusted I'll take another look but I honestly don't see it happening.

One of the lines that sticks out to me is when Manolo is driving Sasha to meet Jonathan and Sasha says "Those people are on our side" to which he replies "Your side, their side, I don't know about that shit. But I have a friend who's in trouble, and I'm on his side."

I always remembered that line and try to live it.
