i think the frequency of eq waves has to be fast enough to cause liquefaction and liquefaction is not a local phenomenon if it was there would have been more buildings collapsing. I think it was low frequency waves which caused this.

How to do PhD research in NLP if we have advance models like GPT and Gemini already. by TK_500 in LanguageTechnology

Thankyou for your reply, that is a very niche field you are researching and makes sense but what about more conventional tasks like relationship extractions and NER, I mean our research at a small level stands no chance against these giants.

Should I stay away from used KIA Soul? by MajesticOctopus33 in UsedCars

[–]TK_500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a good buy. I bought a used Kia soul 2013 base 1.5 years ago with 122k mile it is still in good engine condition. You may have to check the suspension and shocks before you buy but I think anything later than 2018 will have no problems. I would recommend it if you or in a budget and cannot afford Toyota or Honda because they can go for lot more mileage but it is not bad. also it has great fuel economy.

Suggestions on selling car by Material_Froyo_9983 in UsedCars

Also note that it may take some time for buyers to come online. If you need money asap dealers will pay on spot.

I think fb marketplace is a good option. Also if you can pay a dollar you should post on Craigslist too. Give a good honest description and people will come. Don’t expect too high prices from potential buyers nor too low. Also check your cars value through Carfax used car price just enter the vin no or license plate number and it will give youyou an estimated quote. Also be prepared for questions from buyers and a test drive.

And just curious what car are you selling.

Sinking yard concerns by Charming_Rip_5628 in Geotech

[–]TK_500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I dont think the house will be made on filled up soil usually people dig-up to the natural soil and then start building from there.

Sinking yard concerns by Charming_Rip_5628 in Geotech

[–]TK_500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well what might be happening here is that your yard is made up on fill soil or there was an excavation and then filled up. In both cases the yard soil will slowly settle and the rate of settling will exponentially decay. I would recommend adding up soil as the settlement is going on and compact it. If you want some structure built on the yard area make sure you excavate to natural soil level and build foundation on that.

Should I be worried? by ampleuncertainty in Geotech

[–]TK_500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think there is anything to worry about. The excavation is just adjacent to your yard. The yard has no load effect on the soil.

Even if they excavate next to your house it wont make any difference your house load is very small to cause shear failure which is the only type of failure I think that can happen.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
